Chapter 58: Garlic Invincible Arc (Part 5)
Wang Tan Zhi mused to himself, but the zombiewerewolf was different. It didn’t care whether a player was a drama queen or not—it only recognized strength.
As a gatekeeper-level boss with limited intelligence, the zombiewerewolf actually abandoned its easy prey, turning instead to focus alertly on two approaching figures still at a distance. This alone proved how formidable those two must be.
From their manner of addressing each other, Xiao Tan deduced they were none other than Pan Feng and Hua Xiong from the team. Since the scenario had started with players separated, and now their names and titles were no longer displayed above their heads (only name, level, and survival status were visible in the team panel), Xiao Tan couldn’t determine their titles or gauge their strength from those. But since these two had come to rescue him and dared to make such bold claims, they must have confidence in defeating this boss.
“Erm… Two Generals,” Xiao Tan said awkwardly, using the honorific. “There are many blood wolf zombies below. Why don’t we lure this small boss to the upper level—ah!” He suddenly gasped, his mouth falling open in shock mid-sentence.
No need to worry—he hadn’t been bitten. Though five or six zombies from the parking lot behind him had already crept close, they hadn’t reached him yet. Not that they mattered much anyway, blocked as they were by the horizontal railing. Too stupid to climb or crawl under, they were now ramming their ribs against it uselessly.
Xiao Tan’s cry came from witnessing an unbelievable sight.
Pan Feng had leapt high, his mountain-splitting axe raised overhead. His body dropped heavily as the axe blade slashed diagonally downward. Though the motion seemed slow, the angle and precision of his strike left the massive zombiewerewolf no room to evade.
The monster roared, swiping its claws to block. But the moment Pan Wushuang’s weapon struck its arm, the axe suddenly accelerated, flashing like cold lightning, faster than a meteor strike. With a single blow, it severed the arm clean off.
Before the zombiewerewolf’s agonized howl could even escape its throat, Hua Xiong’s spear pierced through its knee. This strike was even faster—blindingly swift. Blood splattered as the blade pierced the joint.
Left arm severed, right knee shattered. The zombiewerewolf’s body, already top-heavy with a disproportionately massive upper torso, lost balance instantly. It toppled sideways, crashing heavily to the ground.
The next second, cold light gleamed in its wolf-like eyes. Bam! The mountain-splitting axe slammed into the ground, splattering blood. A wolf’s head rolled slowly down the sloped pavement…
Xiao Tan stared, stunned. These two had felled a minor boss in three moves—how terrifyingly strong they were! He couldn’t imagine them being only two levels higher than himself.
“Ah—” The low growls of blood wolf zombies behind him snapped him back to reality.
Turning around, he saw dozens of zombies already gathered beyond the railing, with countless more shadowy figures lurking in the dark depths of the parking lot.
“Little brother, shall we retreat to the surface first?” Pan Feng asked.
“Of course! Let’s find a place without these monsters first,” Xiao Tan replied hastily, rushing upward. As he passed the zombiewerewolf’s headless corpse, he couldn’t resist glancing down at it again…
………
Meanwhile, Feng Bu Jue, having left the “Base,” was heading toward the Allerbmu Corporation building. He knew teammates were more likely to be found there. Right now, he hoped Xiao Tan and the other two players wouldn’t recklessly enter the building before his arrival and get themselves killed.
He wasn’t in a hurry to rescue Dr. Ashufude, the main quest target. Frankly, the doctor’s death wouldn’t matter—after all, the system had never stated that the doctor’s death would fail the scenario. This was a team “survival” mode; only total player annihilation would fail the scenario. The death of an Npc might increase difficulty or alter the ending at worst.
Alone, Feng Bu Jue had already slain over fifty blood wolf zombies. He could’ve killed more, but various “experiments” testing the monsters’ reactions had consumed his time.
Through these trials, his shooting proficiency had risen from F to E, though his martial arts proficiency remained at E. It seemed that dancing around and slicing monster heads with two non-weapon tools wasn’t enough to boost his martial arts proficiency to D. He’d need to rethink his approach.
He couldn’t help recalling siyu ruoli—their clean, effortless, and graceful movements. He couldn’t replicate those motions yet. Perhaps once he could, his martial arts proficiency would finally reach D.
Of course, fighting sluggish, crab-like monsters wouldn’t hone such skills. Only battling foes of equal or greater strength could further improve his martial arts proficiency.
Currently, Feng Bu Jue’s top priority was equipping his Echo Armor. He now realized that raising universal proficiency to C wouldn’t be easy, but achieving Apparatus Proficiency D might be feasible—it was only one rank away.
As he walked, he pondered how to exploit the scenario’s freedom for maximum gain, avoiding fights when possible. Soon, he neared the Allerbmu Building, estimating only a few blocks remained.
Suddenly, Feng Bu Jue noticed the increasing number of blood wolf zombies—and some dead ones.
Curious, he performed an “autopsy.” Crouching beside a corpse, he examined the crushed skull and spilled fluids like a detective at a crime scene, checking other wounds on the body.
“Hmm…a baseball bat?” he mused. “One strike to the front, then two more from the side and rear… Could this be Xiao Tan’s work?” Standing, he grabbed his pipe wrench and smashed a nearby zombie’s head, stomping on its chest to pin it down before delivering two quick blows to its skull.
“But baseball bats are common weapons. That ‘Name Zhen Nan Qu’ had several,” he speculated. “The other two players might also be using them.”
As he walked on, he spotted seven or eight corpses nearby, all decapitated. The heads still twitched, mouths chewing silently without windpipes to make sound.
“Hmm… This isn’t his doing,” Feng Bu Jue murmured.
