Chapter 58: Apothecary Abel
Chapter 58: Apothecary Abel
Rayn's expression changed, but after careful consideration, he didn't feel too alarmed.
Judging by the color of the wound, without any signs of blackening or other symptoms, the toxicity didn't seem severe.
Additionally, he had been saving 1 Attribute Point.
This was the moment to use it! Rayn immediately allocated that Attribute Point to his Constitution.
Instantly, a warm current surged from his heart, making him feel energized, and even the previous dizziness disappeared without a trace.
This instantly calmed Rayn's mind.
However, the perception at the wound site hadn't recovered, indicating that the poison was still present! It seemed that allocating the point had refreshed his body's state, but the poison at the wound was still seeping into his body.
Rayn quickly seized the moment and approached the body, first using his sword tip to lift the corpse, confirming that the assassin was indeed lifeless. Then, he began to search hastily.
Generally speaking, since this assassin had used poison, he must have carried antidotes and poisons on his person. Of course, there might not be an antidote for the specific poison Rayn had encountered, but there was a high probability that the assassin had more of the same poison.
Therefore, if Rayn could find the poison he had been exposed to among the assassin's possessions, he would have a chance to identify the type of poison used, making it much easier to deal with later.
But after a few seconds, Rayn was dumbfounded!
He found seven or eight bottles of different colors in the assassin's waist pouch, but none of them had any labels.
Apparently, the assassin relied on color and bottle shapes to remember which poison or antidote each bottle contained.
After a moment's thought, Rayn seemed to come up with a plan.
Without further examining the bottles, Rayn dragged the corpse to a large sack and quickly collected all the bottles, as well as the assassin's purse, and headed towards the town.
Turning left and right, Rayn soon arrived at a shop with a signboard depicting herbs and reagents.
This shop was called Abel's Apothecary.
The owner of the apothecary, Abel, was a middle-aged man in his forties, tall and thin, usually quiet and reserved. He rarely appeared before the town's residents and often worked alone in his apothecary, concocting various potions.
Initially, the town's residents called him 'Weirdo' Abel.
However, as time passed, the residents of Glintstone Town gradually discovered that Abel's potions were more effective than those from other places, and they were also slightly cheaper than similar potions on the market.
This impressed the townspeople, and they stopped calling him 'Weirdo' Abel, instead referring to him as Apothecary Abel or Mr. Abel.
There's also an interesting story about Abel. After he demonstrated his exceptional alchemy skills, the daughter of the tailor shop owner next door, Molly, a beautiful girl in her late teens, gradually fell in love with Abel, a nearly forty-year-old bachelor!
At first, this surprised the residents of Glintstone Town, but after some thought, they realized that Abel, aside from his obsession with alchemy, didn't have any bad habits like gambling or drinking. Indeed, he seemed like a good family man.
The townspeople, realizing this, envied Molly's keen insight, and the two had been married for half a year now.
Rayn didn't come here to buy medicine; instead, he wanted to seek help from the expert alchemist Abel to identify the correct antidote.
After all, professional matters should be left to professionals.
As for what Abel would discover? Who had time to worry about that now?
Survival was the top priority!
Abel, usually quiet and reserved, wasn't the type to spread rumors, so Rayn wasn't too concerned about the apothecary spreading any gossip.
As Rayn approached Abel's Apothecary, his dizziness intensified once more.
However, it was much better than before.
It was unclear if it was due to an improved Constitution or the gradual dissipation of the poison's effects.
Apparently, just adding points wasn't enough to restore all his energy; it couldn't dispel this adverse condition! He still needed an antidote.
Upon entering the apothecary, the owner, Abel, wasn't there. Instead, his newlywed lover, Molly, sat behind the counter.
Rayn knew that Abel was the expert in alchemy, not the person before him.
Speaking of which, this newlywed bride only knew the names and prices of various potions.
Rayn hesitated for a moment before quickly stepping forward and asking, "Sister Molly, is Mr. Abel here?"
"Oh, it's little Rayn! You've grown taller and more handsome," Molly smiled, standing up to greet him. "Abel has been invited by the new Sheriff, so he's probably at the Administration Hall. Is there something you need?"
Both from Shangjin Town, Molly and Rayn had known each other for a long time.
"It's a minor matter with the Sheriff?" Rayn waved his hand. "I'll go to the Administration Hall to find Mr. Abel. See you, Sister Molly." He quickly left the apothecary and headed towards the Administration Hall.
"Hey, Rayn, you can wait," Molly called out as she watched Rayn leave, shaking her head. She couldn't understand Rayn's haste.
Soon, Rayn arrived at the Administration Hall and inquired with the guards, quickly learning the answer.
As expected, Abel was there, currently in Hamilton's office.
"Knock, knock, knock!"
"Knock, knock, knock!"
"Come in!"
Not long after, Rayn returned to Hamilton's office.
As he entered, he saw Abel in his black robe standing beside Hamilton, apparently examining Hamilton's injuries.
This surprised Rayn momentarily, but he soon smiled.
It indicated Abel's exceptional healing skills; if he could treat Hamilton, a formal knight's wounds, Rayn's poison would be no challenge.
"Rayn, why are you back?" Hamilton asked, puzzled.
Rayn didn't answer directly. Instead, he glanced at Apothecary Abel and then back at Hamilton.
Hamilton understood and waved his hand. "It's fine, Rayn, just speak up. Abel is an old friend of mine!"
Rayn nodded. "I was just assassinated and poisoned."
"What?!" Hamilton stood up from his chair, staring at Rayn in shock.
The usually stoic Abel also looked at Rayn in surprise, as if to say, "You, a mere kid, had an assassin after you?"
Rayn didn't explain further. Instead, he stepped forward, and with a 'clatter,' placed all the bottles and jars from his embrace onto Hamilton's large desk.
After a moment's thought, Rayn also took out the black dagger and placed it on the desk.
This time, Hamilton fell silent.
He and Abel exchanged glances, both seeing surprise in each other's eyes.
But at that moment, they both knew Rayn wasn't lying.
