Chapter 579: Three Baby Fire Dragons (Second Update)
Chapter 579: Three Baby Fire Dragons (Second Update)
Jerry had informed Hermione, Harry, and Ron about giving Hagrid three Fire Dragon eggs.
However, they weren’t particularly surprised, as Hagrid had once had a Fire Dragon egg before, but it had been lost before it could hatch.
Hagrid still hadn’t found the thief who stole the egg and had often suspected that the Witch who lost a bet to him had taken it back, as there was a message to prove it.
“I’ve never seen Fire Dragons hatch before; I can’t miss this!”
Hearing Hermione’s reminder, Harry and Ron immediately quickened their pace.
Before reaching Hagrid’s cabin, they saw the enormous powder-blue Thestral-drawn carriage of Beauxbatons Academy near the edge of the Forbidden Forest.
The Thestrals, which were as large as elephants, were leisurely grazing in a temporary enclosure next to the carriage.
The group of Beauxbatons witches, who had left the hall slightly before them, were sitting on the emerald-green lawn beside the carriage, chatting animatedly and occasionally bursting into laughter like silver bells.
“We should probably avoid them!”
Jerry, seeing the group of Beauxbatons witches, suggested with a slight headache.
Earlier in the hall, he had been besieged by these witches asking for autographs.
And in public, he couldn’t just avoid them, as that would have been impolite.
“I think that’s a good idea.”
Hermione, looking at the group of Beauxbatons witches, nodded with a puffed-up expression.
Harry and Ron, reluctantly tearing their eyes away from Fleur, didn’t object.
Today was all about watching the Fire Dragons hatch. If the Beauxbatons witches noticed them and followed them to Hagrid’s cabin, it would be problematic.
According to the Ministry of Magic, privately raising Fire Dragons was illegal, so today's hatching had to remain a secret among them.
“Knock! Knock! Knock!”
After circling around, they arrived at Hagrid’s cabin. Ron cautiously knocked on the wooden door.
The Beauxbatons carriage was about two hundred meters from Hagrid’s front door, so they had to be careful not to make too much noise even after circling around.
Five seconds later, the wooden door opened, revealing Hagrid’s towering figure.
“They’re almost out!”
Hagrid stepped aside, his face beaming with excitement.
Jerry and the others entered the warm cabin, where the fireplace was burning brightly. On the oversized table, the three dragon eggs were now showing deep cracks.
Something inside seemed to be moving, making a playful clicking sound.
Harry, Ron, and Hermione perched on chairs by the table, holding their breath and watching closely.
Jerry smiled and pulled up a chair to sit beside them.
He had seen dragon eggs hatch many times in the Ring World, so he wasn’t as excited as Hermione and the others.
In the Ring World, Sun Long, who was particularly fond of Fire Dragons, loved to carry newly hatched baby Fire Dragons around the courtyard.
Speaking of Sun Long, during the ten years he spent in the Magic Apprentice world, Jerry had planned to release him, as they had an agreement: Sun Long would teach him the magic of the Morgana School, and in return, he would be freed after a certain period of confinement.
However, Sun Long decided he didn’t want to leave the Ring World.
He had grown accustomed to the life there and could continue to raise his beloved Fire Dragons and see all sorts of interesting things.
For him, who had Eternal Life, the outside world of ordinary humans was hardly as interesting as the ring world filled with various Fantastic Beasts.
Besides, Jerry had always treated him very well and never really regarded him as a prisoner.
About five minutes later, the first Fire Dragon finally hatched. It had smooth, crimson scales and a nose like a lion, making it immediately recognizable as the distinctive Chinese Fireball.
Not long after the first Fire Dragon hatched, the second and third Fire Dragons also broke out of their shells.
One was the most beautiful, with iridescent pearl scales, known as the Peruvian Vipertooth. The other was the largest, with gray scales, known as the Ukrainian Ironbelly.
"They are so beautiful, aren't they!"
Hagrid looked at the three newly hatched Fire Dragons, his eyes already brimming with a deep "motherly love."
"They are beautiful, but Hagrid, Fire Dragons grow very quickly. In a couple of months, they will be bigger than your house. It will be easy for the other professors and students to notice them."
Hermione gently touched the most docile Peruvian Vipertooth and then analyzed the situation rationally.
Hagrid, while pouring a mixture of brandy and chicken blood into a large bowl to feed the three newborn Fire Dragons, replied with some concern:
"I plan to raise them deep in the Forbidden Forest. That should be better!"
"But I'm afraid they won't be that obedient. If they fly over to the castle, it could be troublesome!"
Ron, trying to follow Hermione's example, reached out to touch the Ukrainian Ironbelly but was almost bitten by the temperamental dragon.
Hagrid, hearing this, looked a bit at a loss:
"I will educate them well and try to keep them from flying toward the castle."
Although he knew there was a significant risk of being discovered, even if he raised them in the Forbidden Forest, this was his dream, and he couldn't bear to give it up.
"Fire Dragons have poor tempers. Once they grow up, they probably won't listen to you. Here, take this."
Jerry, with experience raising Norbert and Norberta, knew that unless Pact Magic was used, it was virtually impossible for the intellectually challenged Fire Dragons to be completely obedient.
So, he had already thought of a solution for Hagrid.
"This is... a box?"
Hagrid took the palm-sized box Jerry handed him, his face showing a puzzled expression.
Hermione, standing beside Jerry, had a sudden realization and made a guess.
"Legend has it that the great Fantastic Beastologist Newt once had a suitcase with a very large Spatial capacity, containing many of the Fantastic Beasts he collected and raised. I think you might need one too."
Jerry smiled and gestured for Hagrid to open the box.
Hagrid was initially confused, but when he opened the box and stuck his head inside, he understood.
Inside the box was a vast, Traceless Extension Charm-expanded Spatial area.
"Thank you, Jerry, but this is too valuable. I don't know how to repay you!"
Hagrid, pulling his head out of the box, looked at Jerry with eyes full of gratitude.
He was already very moved by the gift of the Fire Dragon eggs, and now he was receiving a top-tier Spatial Magic item.
