Chapter 579: Ji Li's True Face
Chapter 579: Ji Li's True Face
Ji Li had always been worried about his Heavenly Compass getting wet, so he hadn’t been particularly vigilant about his surroundings. Besides, with so many people around, he didn’t feel the need to be on high alert.
He listened to Lu Yuan’s words, wiping the water droplets from the compass while looking across the river: “We’re being followed? No one noticed on the way?”
Is our team doomed?!
Chen Long looked toward the northern forest: “Not being followed, more like sitting ducks.”
Lu Yuan, Si She, Ji Li, and he all turned to look at the dark, eerie forest.
Seeing that they were completely exposed, the man no longer hid, stepping out of the forest under the cool moonlight and night breeze.
He was dressed in nightwear, tall and broad-shouldered, and it was none other than Lu Qi.
Ji Li recognized him immediately: “It’s you, kid.”
He turned to his unreliable teammates, “Hey, they’ll get there before us?”
Lu Yuan said coolly, “That’s up to you. My grandmother’s perfectly good Heavenly Compass, how did it become so unreliable in your hands?”
“What do you mean? Speak clearly, don’t think I won’t beat you up just because you’re younger!”
Ji Li’s tendency to get riled up ten times a day was already a norm, and Lu Yuan, Chen Long, and Si She were long used to it.
Lu Qi, however, gave Ji Li a rather odd look.
Ji Li glared back at Lu Yuan: “What are you looking at? You’re no good either!”
Lu Yuan thought for a moment and asked Ji Li, “Did you go eavesdropping at the Imperial Palace again?”
The Liang Emperor had said the same thing to the Bright King.
Ji Li denied it: “No! You’ve got the wrong person, it wasn’t me!”
It seemed he was right.
But it was a minor issue, as long as his grandfather hadn’t found out, Lu Yuan didn’t plan to delve deeper.
“Are you here to find the Black Armored Army too?”
He got straight to the point, not wanting to waste time with Lu Qi.
Lu Qi didn’t answer, his wary gaze constantly shifting between Chen Long, Ji Li, and Si She.
Lu Yuan smiled: “Stop looking, you can’t beat any of us.”
Lu Qi said coldly, “You’re quite confident.”
Lu Yuan laughed, “A mere underling, why shouldn’t I be confident?”
Lu Qi’s expression turned icy, “Duke? You’re not even pretending anymore?”
Lu Yuan shrugged, “Since you already know my identity, there’s no point in pretending. Choose one.”
Lu Qi asked, “Choose one what?”
Lu Yuan glanced at Chen Long and the others, “Three of them, who do you want to fight?”
Lu Qi asked coldly, “Why not include yourself?”
Lu Yuan smiled nonchalantly, “You’ve already lost to me, I’m not interested in fighting an underling.”
Lu Qi was alone, and he wasn’t looking for trouble, but he and Lu Yuan were like oil and water. Since they had met, a fight was inevitable.
Lu Qi’s gaze swept over the three again, “If I win, can I leave?”
Ji Li put away his Heavenly Compass and pulled out a wet, folded fan from his sleeve, snapping it open with a clap. He tsked, “Who do you think you can win against?”
Lu Qi looked at Ji Li, “I choose you.”
Ji Li snapped his fan shut, “Then your eyes must be blind.”
Neither of them held back, charging at each other almost simultaneously.
Lu Qi looked thinner than Ji Li but was no less powerful.
They exchanged a palm strike, and it was a draw.
Ji Li was somewhat surprised, “Kid, you’ve got some skills.”
Lu Yuan egged him on, “Hey, just because I beat him easily doesn’t mean he’s weak.”
Ji Li and Lu Qi exchanged another strike, “You shut up too! Don’t make me deal with you later!”
Lu Qi intercepted Ji Li's move, and the two continued to fight.
Chen Long and Lu Yuan watched the entire time with cold, indifferent eyes.
Si She remained motionless.
Chen Long stood beside Lu Yuan and said fairly, "He was holding back last time. If he uses his full strength tonight, you might not be able to beat him."
Lu Yuan replied coolly, "How do you know I'm not giving it my all?"
Lu Qi's persona was that of the Scholar Star, not the Warrior Star. Suddenly displaying such martial prowess was already enough to shock people, but what he was more concerned about was how the Liang Emperor would perceive him.
He was afraid that the Liang Emperor would recognize his martial style, so he didn't dare to use his full strength.
Both of the Liang Emperor's grandsons were hiding something from him.
Lu Qi wondered if the Liang Emperor would be more furious or more pleased to discover the truth about his grandsons' capabilities.
Si She said, "His background is not simple."
Lu Qi, while engaging Ji Li in combat, found a moment to ask, "Are you one of the Twelve Guards?"
Ji Li mocked, "Just figured it out?"
Lu Qi punched Ji Li in the chest. "I figured it out a long time ago. I just wanted to see if you were the weakest among them."
"You picked the wrong soft target. I'm the strongest of the Twelve Guards!"
Feeling insulted, Ji Li finally unleashed his true skills.
The folding fan in his left hand suddenly spun in the air, splashing water droplets and displaying a dazzling array of moves. A paper fan had transformed into an iron fan.
Lu Yuan raised an eyebrow. "Interesting."
He had suspected as much but never had the chance to confirm it.
He had to thank Lu Qi for forcing Ji Li to show his true strength.
Lu Qi was no pushover either. The moment he sensed the killing intent, he quickly drew his sword from his waist.
"It's not an ordinary sword. You're skilled in sword techniques, do you recognize it?"
Si She asked Chen Long.
"A bit familiar", Chen Long replied.
The sword and fan clashed, producing a harsh, grating sound and a series of dazzling sparks.
Lu Qi immediately staggered back several steps and spat out a mouthful of blood.
He clutched his chest, knelt on one knee, and used his sword to support his body, which had taken a heavy blow.
The iron fan hadn't cut him, but the opponent's internal energy had damaged some of his tendons.
This was the power of the Twelve Guards?
If any one of them could be this strong, how formidable must the invincible Black Armored Army be?
Ji Li slowly spun the fan in his palm, and it returned to its original form.
He waved the fan and sneered, "I told you, you picked the wrong person."
"Since our goals are the same, we can work together."
Si She spoke up.
Lu Yuan glanced at him in surprise.
From initially ignoring everything to later getting involved, and now making a decision on his own, it seemed he had something very urgent.
Was it related to that girl?
Ji Li was unhappy. "Snake, why are you dragging him in?"
Si She said calmly, "He got here before us, which means he's useful."
Chen Long added, "I have no objections."
Ji Li fumed, "I do!"
Si She then looked at Lu Yuan, seemingly ignoring Ji Li. "What about you?"
Chen Long, expressionless, said, "He has no objections."
Lu Yuan smiled. "The Duke indeed has no objections."
Lu Qi was very surprised.
He had noticed that Lu Yuan and the man carrying the heavy sword didn't see eye to eye. They weren't mortal enemies, but Lu Yuan wouldn't be happy with the other making decisions for him.
He suddenly found their relationships hard to fathom.
Here they come, here they come~
