Chapter 578: Lian Chengbi's Scheme
Chapter 578: Lian Chengbi's Scheme
The battle between Lian Chengbi and Tu Xiaotian was swift and fierce.
By the time Yang Kaitai and the others stood up to leave, Tu Xiaotian had already been beaten and was spitting blood on the ground, courtesy of Lian Chengbi.
Although the subsequent rapid volley of arrows was blocked by Lian Chengbi at the window, Yang Kaitai still instinctively shielded Feng Siniang and Shen Bijun behind him, not daring to leave their side.
Thus, they were unable to stop the hidden weapon that was meant to silence Tu Xiaotian.
"What a decisive action and such ruthless means," Yang Kaitai frowned. "I didn't expect those from the Celestial Sect to have followed us all the way to Suzhou. Do they still plan to make a move?"
"With the delivery of the escort fees to the government, the matters of the jianghu are concluded." Lian Chengbi said, "Highway robberies by the Green Forest usually take place in the wilderness or forests. If they dare to commit such acts directly within the government premises, it is no longer a matter of the jianghu."
Yang Kaitai nodded, "That's true. Even if they manage to steal it, they won't be able to leave Suzhou Government unimpeded."
Feng Siniang stared at the deceased Tu Xiaotian and asked, "What is this Celestial Sect? I've never even heard of it."
Lian Chengbi smiled, "Aren't you the most well-informed? Why don't you ask your friends about it?"
"Hmph! I will ask!" Feng Siniang rolled her eyes at Lian Chengbi and then turned to Yang Kaitai, "Are we friends or not?"
Yang Kaitai nodded firmly, "Yes!"
Feng Siniang smiled alluringly, "Then can you tell me what's the deal with this Celestial Sect?"
Yang Kaitai readily agreed, "Of course!"
Shen Bijun couldn't help but laugh. They both knew that Lian Chengbi was teasing Feng Siniang, but Yang Kaitai's unwavering agreement was still quite comical.
Lian Chengbi patted Yang Kaitai on the shoulder, "You should be a little more reserved. As a young man in the world, you must learn to protect yourself, or you might find yourself in the sights of a female demon."
Yang Kaitai scratched his head and smiled sheepishly, while Feng Siniang secretly gritted her teeth.
Lian Chengbi casually searched Tu Xiaotian's body and waved to the shop assistant in the distance. He then pointed to Tu Xiaotian's corpse and said, "He should have quite a bit of money on him, which should be enough to compensate for your losses."
Just now, during the confrontation between Lian Chengbi and Tu Xiaotian, a barrage of arrows had flown in, filling the air with toxic smoke. The guests on the second floor of the restaurant had long fled, and the shop had indeed suffered significant losses.
Fortunately, Lian Chengbi's group had not yet finished their meal.
Yang Kaitai recounted the events that had transpired in Lanzhou, explaining to Feng Siniang about Peng Pengfei and Liu Yongnan's involvement with the Celestial Sect, and their subsequent plan to double-cross the bandits. It wasn't a secret, as all the escorts and boatmen were aware of it, so there was no point in hiding it.
However, not many people knew about the Little Young Master's information, as only the monks and the chief escort leader had been present at the time.
But since Lian Chengbi had already used the man's title to test Tu Xiaotian, and Feng Siniang had overheard it, there was no longer any need to keep it from her.
So Yang Kaitai spoke without any hesitation or burden.
"I see," Feng Siniang finally understood. "The Celestial Sect has somehow managed to recruit many skilled people from the jianghu. They originally intended to hijack your eight million taels of gold and silver, but their plan failed due to Lian Chengbi's insight.
Unwilling to give up, they followed you all the way to Suzhou, and this Tu Xiaotian tried to instigate the One-Armed Eagle King, who didn't know any better, to kill you. But they never expected Lian Chengbi's martial arts to be so formidable."
Feng Siniang thought for a moment and turned to Lian Chengbi, "How did you know that Sikong Shu wasn't a part of the Celestial Sect? Couldn't Tu Xiaotian have been acting with him?"
"If Sikong Shu were a part of the Celestial Sect, he wouldn't have needed to implicate himself in the first place by bringing him up during their initial conversation, thus exposing a flaw in their plan.
"Indeed." Lian Chengbi nodded.
"Who are they?" Yang Kaitai demanded, his anger rising.
To rob the escort fees from the Yuan Ji company was to make an enemy of him, Yang Kaitai, and the Shaolin Sect!
But Lian Chengbi merely shook his head in response, "I cannot say."
"Why not?" Yang Kaitai asked, confused.
"Because sometimes, not saying anything is more threatening than revealing the truth." Lian Chengbi replied with a smile.
Yang Kaitai was perplexed, "What do you mean?"
Feng Siniang's eyes lit up as she caught on, "Are you trying to bait them?"
"If I reveal their names, they might come up with all sorts of excuses to deny their involvement or even disappear without a trace, causing endless trouble." Lian Chengbi explained.
"But if you don't expose them," Feng Siniang continued, "then all the members of the Celestial Sect who might have been recognized by Tu Xiaotian will live in fear, not knowing if you've uncovered their secrets."
"This way, they might be tempted to test you, and in their eagerness, they'll reveal their true colors." Feng Siniang smiled, "You might even be able to catch more of them!"
Lian Chengbi nodded in agreement, "You are truly clever, Siniang. But this is an open strategy. Don't you think they would dare to assume that I know nothing?"
Feng Siniang's eyebrows arched, "They wouldn't dare!"
"Then someone will eventually lose their patience." Lian Chengbi rubbed his fingers together, "As more and more of them become restless, the important figures will have no choice but to make a move, like..."
"The Little Young Master!" Feng Siniang's eyes sparkled.
"Exactly!" Lian Chengbi clapped his hands, laughing.
Only the Little Young Master knew the location of the Carefree Marquis's lair, so if he could capture him, he would be able to find the Carefree Marquis.
Shen Bijun glanced at Feng Siniang and then at Lian Chengbi, pouting slightly.
Yang Kaitai looked at Feng Siniang and then at Lian Chengbi, scratching his head in thought.
"I understand now." Yang Kaitai said, enlightened. "This way, we don't have to worry about them running away once they get wind of it. They might even take the initiative to find you, Lian Chengbi."
"Precisely!" Lian Chengbi smiled, "And who knows, some of them might still be in Suzhou. It's not a big place, so if they show their true faces, we might just run into them!"
"I doubt we'll meet them." Feng Siniang disagreed, "Now that Tu Xiaotian has been exposed, if they suddenly appear in Suzhou, a border town, they'll only draw suspicion."
"We'll find out in the next couple of days." Lian Chengbi took Shen Bijun's hand, "Come, we've had our fill of mutton. Let's head back to the inn and rest."
Shen Bijun's face reddened like a blooming flower.
