Chapter 578: A Clever Trick (First Update)
Chapter 578: A Clever Trick (First Update)
"Are you ready? Let's begin!"
Jerry walked to the front of all the young wizards and waved his hand. A portal appeared before him.
Then, he finished the conversation he had started with Ron:
"The age line set by five top witches is impossible to bypass using any known method, unless... we use a new kind of magic they haven't thought of yet!"
As he spoke, a similar portal appeared directly above the Flame Cup, inside the age line.
Jerry tossed the slip of paper into the portal, and it appeared precisely above the Flame Cup, then fell neatly into it.
Indeed, Jerry's method was simple: he opened a portal and used Spatial Magic to bypass the age line, allowing him to throw the paper directly into the Flame Cup from outside the age line.
The age line set by the five top witches was undoubtedly powerful. Jerry could have broken it by force, but that would have caused too much commotion.
Portal magic, on the other hand, was a type of magic he himself had invented, and everyone knew about it, making it easy for them to understand.
In fact, not only portals, but Phantom Shift could theoretically also bypass the age line's restriction.
However, the Phantom Shift spell can only be learned by witches and wizards over seventeen years old, and those eligible to learn it are also old enough to participate in the Triwizard Tournament.
Moreover, Hogwarts Castle has a strong anti-Phantom Shift spell, making it impossible to use the spell within the castle.
So, even if underage young wizards had illegally learned the Phantom Shift spell, they still wouldn't be able to bypass the age line.
But Jerry was different. He used his own invention, Spatial portals, which were not significantly affected by the castle's magic. With his strength, any influence could be largely ignored.
"I knew you could do it, Jerry!"
Seeing Jerry's slip of paper fall into the Flame Cup, Ron became excited and immediately threw his own paper into the portal, which also smoothly entered the Flame Cup.
"Us too."
The Weasley brothers, Harry, Hermione, and the other young wizards who had been prepared, happily threw their slips of paper into the portal.
On the other side, the students from Durmstrang and Beauxbatons watched as the Flame Cup gradually filled with slips of paper and the magical portal, their eyes wide with amazement.
But they didn't know what to say.
After all, the other side was cheating with their own skills, and you had to admit it.
This incident also reinforced why the Ministry of Magic placed such high importance on Jerry's portal magic.
Everyone had always thought that portal magic, like the one Jerry used at the Quidditch World Cup, was meant to open a large gateway for long-distance travel.
They hadn't imagined it could be used in this way.
Moreover, it was clearly recorded in "A History of Hogwarts" that Hogwarts Castle had the ability to restrict Spatial Magic, and even Dumbledore couldn't use Phantom Shift within the castle.
This was why no one had considered this approach before.
"Headmaster Karkaroff, what's wrong?"
As the young wizards at Hogwarts cheered and jumped below, a cry of surprise came from the second floor.
Everyone looked up and saw that, at some point, Dumbledore, the three headmasters, and two Ministry of Magic department heads had all gathered on the second floor.
And Karkaroff, the headmaster of Durmstrang, actually fainted on the ground.
Regarding Jerry using the portal to allow many young wizards who were underage to participate in the champion selection, the matter ended after Snape’s light-hearted "rebuke."
As Snape put it, since it had already become a fact, they would just have to wait for the Flame Cup to choose the results that evening.
For once, the young wizards from the other three houses, apart from Slytherin, developed a slight liking for Snape, their new headmaster.
"Who would have thought that Professor Snape could be so reasonable?"
On the way to Hagrid’s hut, Harry exclaimed in disbelief.
He had thought that after being caught cheating, all their names would be taken out again, but Snape had surprisingly let them off.
"I think it’s because of Jerry. You know, Snape has always been good to Jerry."
Ron looked at Jerry with a hint of envy.
In the entire Hogwarts, Snape only showed a slight smile when facing Jerry, although that smile still looked intimidating.
They had witnessed this many times during the joint Potions class between Gryffindor and Slytherin.
Hermione pursed her lips.
"It’s because you’re not as excellent as Jerry. If you were like Jerry, Professor Snape wouldn’t have given you a hard time."
Hermione hadn’t had a good impression of Professor Snape before. During Potions classes, whenever she raised her hand, Snape never called on her and even mocked her a few times.
But later, for some reason, Snape’s attitude towards her changed significantly. One could say that, apart from Jerry, Snape’s attitude towards her had even surpassed that towards the average Slytherin witch.
"Let’s not even think about it. I don’t think it’s possible in this lifetime."
Ron felt powerless at the thought of being as excellent as Jerry.
Harry nodded in agreement.
If catching up to Hermione’s grades was a one-in-a-thousand chance, then catching up to Jerry was an impossible dream.
"Don’t worry. Now that Snape is the headmaster, he won’t be as strict as before. And I have some insider information."
Jerry smiled as he reassured Harry and Ron.
It wasn’t really insider information; Dumbledore had told him this personally.
As headmaster, he would be busy with school affairs and wouldn’t have the time to teach classes, a pattern that all previous headmasters had followed.
When Dumbledore became headmaster, he also stopped teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts.
"Merlin, that’s fantastic news!"
Upon hearing this, Harry and Ron felt that having Snape as headmaster might not be such a bad thing after all.
At least, they wouldn’t see the headmaster often, whereas Potions class was a weekly affair.
"Let’s hurry up, or we’ll miss the Fire Dragons hatching!"
Hermione, who wasn’t particularly concerned about the change in Potions professor, urged them to move faster.
It turned out that they had decided to go to Hagrid’s hut right after submitting their names because Hagrid had informed them that the three Fire Dragon Eggs Jerry had given him were likely to hatch today.
