Chapter 577: Why Bother Checking?
Chapter 577: Why Bother Checking?
After Jiang Xia and Zhao Cheng Lei went downstairs,
Gu Heng was helping his daughter tidy up the bed when he asked, "Where is that classmate from?"
Gu Yue: "I don’t know, she didn’t say."
Gu Heng didn’t press further.
At twenty-one, twenty-one years had passed.
Gu Yue, talkative as ever, continued, "She said her partner has been transferred from the military. Dad, could you check which unit he’s in? His position seems pretty high. Jiang Xia doesn’t seem ordinary either."
"Why bother checking? I don’t have the time for such trivial matters."
Gu Yue: "I just want to be friends with Jiang Xia. If you won’t check, I’ll ask Mom."
Gu Heng: "No checking! You’re always so busy with everything except your studies!"
Gu Yue pouted: "If I wasn’t focused on my studies, could I have gotten into Q University?"
Hmph!
Gu Heng softened: "Aren’t you planning to work in the foreign affairs department? You need to study hard. Getting into that department isn’t easy. What others do has nothing to do with you. Focus on your studies, that’s the right path."
"I know!"
Talking to her dad was always so boring. Two out of every three sentences were lectures!

When Jiang Xia and Zhao Cheng Lei went downstairs, they saw Jiang Dong waiting for them.
"Is the bed set up?"
Jiang Xia: "Yes, go back to the lab! We’re leaving. We’ll visit your brother-in-law’s old leader later."
Jiang Dong handed them the car keys: "You can take the car. I’ll ride Xiao Yan’s bicycle back later."
Jiang Xia didn’t hesitate and took the keys: "Then we’ll be off."
Jiang Dong told them where the car was, and the three of them parted ways.
When the couple got home, they heard three children crying from outside the door.
Jiang Xia quickly went in and took the baby from Grandma, smiling and cooing, "Mommy’s back! Who’s crying so much?"
The younger brother, probably recognizing Jiang Xia’s scent, stopped crying after a moment in her arms.
Jiang Xia noticed his eyes were red from crying, "Have you been crying for a long time?"
Grandma: "He woke up at nine, played for a bit, and then started crying, refusing to eat."
Jiang Xia glanced at the clock: 9:18. It wasn’t that long.
Second Aunt: "We changed his diaper and tried feeding him with a bottle, but he wouldn’t drink. I think he’s starting to recognize people. These three are so perceptive."
The bottle was filled with breast milk, prepared by Jiang Xia before she left.
"He’s starting to recognize people", Zhao Cheng Lei said, having parked the car and come in. He took the babies from Second Aunt and Li Qiufeng, gently soothing them, "Daddy’s back..."
In Zhao Cheng Lei’s arms, after a few soothing words, the two babies stopped crying.
Second Aunt laughed, "These kids are so smart, they’re already recognizing people. Thank goodness they’re also attached to their dad, or it would be a problem when Xia goes to class."
Grandma, who had raised many children, smiled, "Young children are like that, they get used to things quickly."
"They just need to get used to us", Zhao Cheng Lei replied, then he and Jiang Xia went into the house to feed the babies.
After feeding them, the couple told Grandpa and Grandma they were leaving, then packed diapers, clothes, and formula for the visit.
Jiang Xia was starting classes tomorrow, and before that, they had to visit the old leader.
They drove there, with Jiang Xia at the wheel. Zhao Cheng Lei placed the two babies in the back seats and sat in the middle with a small stool, holding one baby and gently shaking a rattle, telling them the story of "The Little Tadpoles Looking for Their Mother" to soothe them.
He also kept an eye on the road, giving Jiang Xia directions.
Finally, they arrived at the compound, with another car following behind.
