Chapter 577: Two-Star Mission
Chapter 577: Two-Star Mission
Beast Companion Center.
After registering, Qiao Sang and Tang Yi went to different windows to wait.
The layout of the mission hall in the Lower Ten Districts' Beast Companion Center was somewhat different from other centers. Besides queuing at the window to have staff filter suitable missions, one could also browse the mission boards along the walls to find a preferred mission.
Due to the excessive number of wild beast companions, thousands of new missions were posted almost every day.
Some long-standing missions that no one had taken on were posted on the mission boards.
Qiao Sang waited for a while and, seeing that it would be a long time before his turn, went to the mission board to take a look.
[Mission: Drive Away Pleasure Python]
[Mission Location: 102 Tongfu Street]
[Mission Reward: 10,000 Union Coins]
[Mission Level: Two-Star]
Qiao Sang examined a slightly yellowed mission sheet nearby. Is this mission that difficult? It's just about driving away a familiar, and no one has taken it?
At that moment, a woman in a black dress with her hair tied up high approached Qiao Sang and asked:
"Are you interested in this mission?"
Qiao Sang glanced to the side, confirming she was talking to him, and replied:
"Not really, I'm just curious why no one has taken this mission."
The woman subtly glanced at Fangy, then asked, "You're not from around here, are you?"
Qiao Sang nodded and hummed in agreement.
The woman retracted her gaze and didn't press further. She answered his previous question: "The missions on this board are either too difficult, the rewards are too low, or the information is inaccurate, like this one."
"The Drive Away Pleasure Python mission has been taken by several Beastmasters before, but they all returned and canceled it immediately after going there."
"Why?" Qiao Sang asked, curious.
The woman shrugged. "Because it's not just one Pleasure Python, but a whole group of them."
The difficulty of these two missions is completely different... Qiao Sang was shocked. "Since you know the mission information is incorrect, why not correct it?"
The woman replied calmly, "We have too many wild beast companions here, and the number of Beastmasters is limited. We don't have enough manpower to verify every mission's details. Some missions might only be checked after a year."
No wonder so many missions are left unclaimed. Doing a ten-thousand-Union-Coin job for just one thousand... anyone would be reluctant... Qiao Sang silently complained in his mind.
For the next while, Qiao Sang continued to browse the mission boards.
The woman didn't leave and occasionally chatted with him.
Suddenly, she asked, "I have a mission. Are you interested?"
Meanwhile, a few Beastmasters nearby were watching them, chatting with a mix of curiosity and amusement:
"Maya is trying to get someone to take on a mission again."
"Three months, and she still hasn't given up."
"If it weren't for that Dapeng, I'd be happy to help her."
"Look at her, now she's even trying to get a kid to do it."
"This kid clearly isn't from the Lower Ten Districts, and I've never seen the familiar she's carrying."
"Maya is now targeting people from other regions."
"Last month, she found someone from the Sixteenth District, but he also gave up because of Dapeng."
On the other side, Qiao Sang asked:
“What mission?”
“There’s a Mular that leaves all sorts of trash in front of my house every day. Sometimes it even comes inside and causes trouble. I hope you can help me drive it away.” Maya said in a serious tone.
Mular, Mid-Class Grass Beast… The information about the Mular flashed through Qiao Sang’s mind. Her late-night studies hadn’t been in vain, and she had a general understanding of some of the familiars in Supernest.
“Why don’t you just post the mission at the window and have the staff handle it?” Qiao Sang asked curiously.
Maya’s eyes flickered. “I did, but no one has taken it yet. I don’t want to wait. I saw that the familiar in your arms seems to be a fire-type, which should be effective against a Mular.”
Qiao Sang thought for a moment and then declined. “Sorry, this mission might not be suitable for me.”
The higher the difficulty of the mission, the higher the evaluation score. Driving away a Mid-Class Grass Beast clearly isn’t very challenging, and even if she completes it, the score won’t be very high.
“Why?” Maya asked, puzzled.
Because it’s too easy… Qiao Sang decided to be straightforward. “I’m still a student. I’m here to take on missions for my school’s evaluation, and there are certain requirements for the missions. I need to take on missions that at least a D-Class Beastmaster can handle.”
Maya’s eyes lit up. She had indeed noticed when the girl entered that she clearly wasn’t from Sector 25, both from her demeanor and her familiar. She was young, a Beastmaster, and had a familiar that Maya didn’t recognize, as well as a Steel Sparrow. Chances were, she was a student from the Upper Ten Districts here for training.
Students from the Upper Ten Districts who came for training were secretly protected by high-level Beastmasters, ensuring they wouldn’t be truly harmed.
Only someone with such a background wouldn’t be threatened by that guy, Nada Pong!
Maya took a deep breath and said seriously, “My mission is a two-star level from the Beast Companion Center, which can only be taken by C-Class and D-Class Beastmasters.”
Qiao Sang was taken aback. After spending over a month in Supernest, she had learned a lot about the place.
The Beast Companion Center in Supernest typically divides missions into five levels, with the highest being a Five-Star Mission and the lowest being a One-Star Mission. Based on a Beastmaster’s level, they can only choose missions of their level or those with a lower difficulty.
One-Star Missions are usually chosen by E-Class and F-Class Beastmasters.
Two-Star Missions are for D-Class and C-Class Beastmasters.
Of course, D-Class and C-Class Beastmasters can also choose One-Star Missions but cannot take on Three-Star or higher missions, which fundamentally reduces the danger involved.
However, nothing is absolute. Even if a Beastmaster takes on a mission that matches their capabilities, there’s still some risk in a place like Supernest, where wild familiars are everywhere.
Driving away a Mid-Class Beast is a Two-Star Mission? Qiao Sang found it hard to believe and asked, “Really?”
“Of course it’s real!” Maya pulled out her mobile phone, fiddled with it for a moment, and then showed the mission request to Qiao Sang.
"If you don't believe me, you can ask the staff at the counter later."
Qiao Sang lowered her head and carefully examined the mission request on her mobile phone screen. It was indeed listed as a Two-Star Mission.
But why... Qiao Sang pondered for a moment before saying, "I'll ask, but I can't guarantee I'll take your mission."
"It's fine", Maya smiled. "I'm happy that you're considering my mission as one of your options."
Qiao Sang didn't say anything more. Then, she thought of something and asked casually, "By the way, what's the reward for this mission?"
...
Ten minutes later.
Finally, it was Qiao Sang's turn at window number 27.
She walked up to the window, sat down, and handed over her ID card and Beastmaster Badge.
The staff, who dealt with hundreds of clients every day, was already numb. They barely glanced at the detailed information, just compared the photo to confirm it was her, and then asked, "Are you here to take a mission?"
Qiao Sang nodded.
"Do you have any specific requirements for the mission you want to take?" the staff asked.
"The harder, the better", Qiao Sang replied without hesitation.
This response finally broke the staff's professional demeanor. She raised her head in surprise, not expecting a client to request such an unusual requirement.
But she quickly recovered and began operating the computer.
Soon, a list of available missions appeared on the screen in front of Qiao Sang.
She quickly scanned through them but found none particularly challenging.
In her mind, a truly difficult mission would involve venturing deep into areas where wild beast companions gathered. If it were on Blue Star, such a mission would require a trip to the Hidden Realm. The purpose of mission evaluations was to encourage participants to interact more with wild beast companions, yet there were none of that sort listed here.
Qiao Sang thought for a moment and then asked carefully, "Can I ask why the mission to drive away a Mular is classified as a Two-Star Mission?"
"Do you know the name of the person who posted the mission?" the staff asked.
Qiao Sang nodded. "Maya."
The other party had mentioned it during their earlier conversation.
"Please wait a moment", the staff said, lowering her head to check.
After about two minutes, she looked up and said, "This mission has been posted for nine months. During that time, 16 Beastmasters have taken it, but all of them eventually gave up. Based on the posting duration and the number of failed attempts, it was upgraded from a One-Star Mission to a Two-Star Mission."
Driving away just one Intermediate Beast, and 16 Beastmasters couldn't complete it... Qiao Sang realized that this mission was more complex than it appeared on the surface.
Might as well take a gamble; the other missions weren't particularly challenging either... With this thought, Qiao Sang made a quick decision. "I'll take this mission."
"Alright", the staff said, operating the computer. "Please sign on the screen in front of you and confirm."
The screen changed to display the mission acceptance form.
Qiao Sang quickly signed her name and confirmed.
...
At the same time.
Beastmaster Center.
Second floor.
Mission Management Department.
The work phone rang.
A staff member in a black uniform answered.
A clear and crisp voice came through the speaker: "Mission number 0396268801, to drive away a Mular, has been verified. There are two obstacles: one is human interference, and the other is a group of wild Scaleshield Moths. Recommend upgrading to a Three-Star Mission."
"Understood", the staff member replied and hung up the phone.
