Chapter 577: Give Me Back Kuro!
Chapter 577: Give Me Back Kuro!
Not just Lida and Klah—none of the Navy’s auras were present either.
Back already? Impossible. They wouldn’t have the cowardice to abandon their posts.
Kuro activated his Transponder Snail and dialed Lida’s number.
The Transponder Snail didn’t ring—not even a single chime.
A silent Transponder Snail could only mean one thing: it was either dead or nonexistent.
But that made no sense.
Had that old man eliminated them all?
Impossible. The old man’s strength wasn’t enough for that.
And Lida’s power was formidable too. If a real combat situation had occurred, she would’ve detected the disturbance.
Kuro dialed another number. With a “brrrr-brrrr” sound, the call connected.
“Hello~”
The Transponder Snail transformed into a lecherous-looking face.
“Gramps! Did Lida and the others return?” Kuro asked directly.
“Hmm? Who’s this?” The voice on the other end feigned ignorance.
“Stop fooling around, Gramps. I’m asking you a question.”
“Oh~ How strange. How do you know this number? Are you with the Navy? Also, I’m not that old.”
Kuro: “???”
“Gramps, are you sure you’re not the one playing games?” he asked uncertainly.
“Nope. So… who are you, then?”
The tone sounded genuinely unfamiliar.
“I’ll deal with you later! You’re messing with me at a time like this?!”
Kuro abruptly ended the call, clenching his cigar between his teeth, his expression dark and stormy.
What’s wrong with this old man? Even after asking again, he still had the gall to joke around?
“This crappy place—why isn’t there a single soul here? Not even a trace of Coltiga’s residents’ aura.”
He exhaled a puff of smoke. With Observation Haki scanning the area, not a single aura registered—like this island had become a desolate wasteland.
Where is everyone? Where did they go?
What exactly did that man, Feld the Hidden, do?!
As Kuro brooded, a ship anchored at a shallow beach on one of the islands in the archipelago.
“Hey, Captain, should we rest on this island? I prefer the one on the left,” said Lucius Kro, a man wearing glasses with a blade strapped to his waist.
“I like the island on the right,” countered another man with a ponytail, wielding twin axes on his back.
“Enough bickering,” a rugged man stepped off the ship, grinning at the island. “I like this one. It’s got an adventurous aura. I’ve got a feeling something fun’s going to happen.”
Dressed in an open-collared shirt with jewelry and a red captain’s coat, his thick mustache curled upward as he grinned. “Look—there’s a powerful aura over there.”
“What ‘adventure’? You just want to fight, Roger,” the glasses-wearing man sighed. “I’ll stay and guard the ship. That aura’s only one person. What about you, Jaba?”
“I’ll go check it out.”
Jaba smirked. “Maybe Roger won’t find it interesting.”
……
Boom!
The Koltiga Islands, on one of the islands.
A shockwave of sound rippled through the air.
A white-haired maiden leapt into the air, slamming her fist down and cratering the ground.
“Where did you send Kuro, you old geezer?!”
Lida, now in her maiden form, her arms coated in Armament Haki, glared furiously at Feld the Hidden.
Before Feld the Hidden could steady his footing, he leapt upward. A wisp of light flared behind him.
Klah, in his beast form, slashed at the air, his eyes narrowing as he watched Feld the Hidden soar.
This man had made Kuro disappear.
The moment they noticed Kuro’s aura vanishing, everything went wrong.
They’d all seen Feld the Hidden before. Judging by his life aura, he was no match for Kuro. Yet somehow, Kuro was gone.
Calls went unanswered. No residual energy remained—just like the other residents of this island.
How could Lida not panic? She’d nearly gone berserk.
“Give me back Kuro!!”
Lida clapped her hands together, her essence mingling with Haki to form a concentrated shockwave. With a sudden release, a black beam erupted skyward.
“Essenceshockwave!”
The speed was blinding.
“Ugh!”
Feld the Hidden, barely reaching the sky, kicked off the air to dodge. The black beam nearly grazed his body as it shot into the heavens.
A cold sweat beaded his forehead.
“At this age, already this strong? Captain, oh Captain…”
Feld the Hidden stared at Lida below, her crimson eyes burning with rage, and sighed. “You said your mother was gentle, didn’t you?”
Whoosh!
A gust of wind roared from behind.
Feld the Hidden’s fist flared with Armament Haki as he struck backward.
Clang!
A claw clashed against his arm.
Klah appeared behind him, his eyes narrowing. “Pirate! Where did you send Kuromr.!”
His other claw lashed toward Feld the Hidden’s head.
Bam!
Feld the Hidden blocked with his other hand, but the Zoan-type’s monstrous strength was too much. Under the force, Feld the Hidden crouched, kicking up a cloud of dust.
“Give him back!!”
Before he could recover, Lida lunged, her hand shooting toward Feld the Hidden.
Feld the Hidden’s pupils constricted. He retracted his defensive stance, as if sensing a lurking beast. His foot stamped the ground, his crouched body rolling sideways. With a spring from his limbs, he bounded away, leaping across the terrain to a safe distance.
“A dangerous situation indeed…”
Feld the Hidden sighed as Lida charged again, her palm glowing with Armament Haki. “Even if I’m not old, fighting two of you is impossible.”
That last move—she’d released her Haki, aiming to touch him directly.
Normally, Haki attacks wouldn’t relinquish their power. Only one scenario required physical contact.
He wasn’t the only Devil Fruit user here.
“I don’t care what ability you have,” Feld the Hidden said. “I can’t be touched—not now. Can’t we negotiate? I guarantee Lucius Kro’s officer isn’t dead.”
“Enough lies! You’re not even worthy of defeating Kuro!” Lida stomped forward, cracking her knuckles. “Kuro never loses! But where did you send him?!”
“I just sent him to play in the past for a bit. Don’t worry—it’ll be quick. After all, I’m about to die.”
Feld the Hidden replied. “Once I’m gone, my ability will fade, and Lucius Kro’s officer will return.”
His words left both stunned.
What did he mean?
