Chapter 575: Kuro? Lucius Kro?
Chapter 575: Kuro? Lucius Kro?
Within an Island, a village with curling smoke rising from its chimneys saw a man slowly step out.
This village, which should have been bustling with life, now lay eerily silent.
"It's almost over... nearly finished."
The man's voice rasped out, sounding aged and weary.
Swish!
The moment he took a step forward, a wisp of golden light slashed down from the sky like a blade tearing through the heavens, swallowing him whole.
The slash pierced his skin, severing his arm clean off.
"I found you!"
From the sky, a golden figure plummeted downward.
Kuro gripped Autumn Water, his cigar clenched between his teeth. "Sure enough... I could still sense life energy earlier, but now it's all gone. Did you do this?"
"Navy?"
A voice suddenly echoed from the smoke and dust kicked up by the slash.
From the haze emerged an elderly man with snow-white beard and hair, his face stern. Dressed in futuristic black leather, his hair meticulously combed, hands tucked into his coat pockets.
Hands?
Kuro's eyes widened. Didn't I just cut off his hand?
Yet now, the man stood unscathed.
"Kuro, sir!"
Behind him, Klah and Lida arrived with Navy members. At the sight of Kuro drawing his blade, Klah raised a hand. Instantly, the Navy surrounded the old man.
"Kuro, sir, is this the vanished demon?" Lida asked, staring at the elderly man. Suddenly, his voice faltered.
His mouth opened, pupils constricted, his tone trembling. "Kuro..."
"What's wrong? You recognize him?" Kuro asked, narrowing his eyes.
"Yes! That face... it's unmistakable! The infamous pirate, 'The Hidden' Blix Feld the Hidden!"
Klah's voice turned grave. "Kuro, this is the pirate who terrorized the seas over twenty years ago! His bounty once exceeded three hundred million! I thought he was dead!"
"Oh? Someone remembers me? I thought the Grand Line had already forgotten my name."
Feld the Hidden's lips curled. "Now that you know my reputation, stand down. I have no wish to fight the Navy. Even if you once captured me and locked me in Impel Down."
"So that's it..."
Kuro exhaled a plume of smoke. "You escaped from the sixth level? Old man, you look seventy-plus. If you managed to escape, why not retire peacefully? What are you scheming here? What did you do to these villagers?"
"I'm not seventy. I'm eighty-six."
Feld the Hidden glanced at the village. "As for my plans, that's none of your concern."
Whoosh!
Before he finished speaking, Kuro vanished. A streak of black lightning slashed downward.
Clang!
An arm coated in Armament Haki blocked Kuro's Black Blade.
Kuro pressed his blade down, coldly stating, "I'm Navy. You're a pirate. Whatever you're doing concerns me."
"Hmph."
Feld the Hidden nodded, glancing at the blocked blade. "Autumn Water? Isn't that Wano Country's national treasure? Are you from Wano? I'm quite familiar with your Nine Regions Lord."
Bang!
Kuro's blade sent Feld's arm flying. The blade slid forward, cleaving downward.
Hiss!
A spark erupted from Feld's chest. He staggered back, staring at his torn clothing as his Haki faded.
His eyes narrowed. "What's your name?"
"Why should I tell an old man? I'm not from Wano either."
Kuro tilted his head. "Want to reminisce? My family's not some noble line you'd recognize. The Kuro family's been East Blue farmers for three generations."
"Kuro? Lucius Kro?"
The words made Feld the Hidden freeze. His eyes widened as he stared at Kuro, then shifted to Lida. Suddenly, he laughed. "Ah! The white one! Of course! That explains everything!"
"Hahahaha!"
He roared with laughter. "How absurd! That man... that man actually has a Navy grandson! Hilarious! Absolutely hilarious!"
"What's so funny, old man?"
Kuro scowled. Is this guy insane?
"Just a joke. Pity I can't return home. Otherwise, I'd love to laugh at that man properly."
Feld's smile carried warmth, leaving Kuro bewildered.
It felt like meeting someone who knew you intimately, yet you'd never met.
Like...
A character from a story.
This old man reeked of strangeness.
"Either way, I'm arresting you first."
Kuro tightened his grip on Autumn Water. Golden lightning crackled along the blade.
"This is..."
Feld's eyes widened. "The highest level of Haki? No surprise you can wield it. I'm no match for you."
Swish!
Kuro's blade slashed downward—empty air.
Gone.
No life aura. As if he'd never existed.
"Hey Carl, time for dinner!"
Suddenly, a woman's voice rang from the village.
Kuro spun around, eyes wide.
The village, once lifeless, now buzzed with energy. A mother called to her child at a doorway.
"Huh? Navy?"
The woman noticed the Navy group, startled. "Why are there Navy here? I didn't see anyone earlier..."
Kuro's eyes glowed red. Observation Haki spread outward.
Feld's aura had vanished from this island, reappearing on another—far away.
Teleport? Impossible. Even the fastest teleporters couldn't cover such distance instantly.
How did Feld the Hidden move there?
And what about these villagers?
