Chapter 574: Lanchi's Simple Wish
Chapter 574: Lanchi's Simple Wish
The streets of Nyka Island were more congested than usual, especially the main road leading to the royal palace. Various unique vehicles of the Demon Realm crawled along slowly.
Despite the near-paralyzing traffic, the atmosphere on the streets was abuzz with excitement and festive cheer. Countless demons had paused their steps, their eyes glued to the screens hanging between buildings, watching the live feed from the square in front of the palace.
On the screens, Princess Hyberian covered her forehead, her shoulders trembling slightly. It was hard to make out her expression.
"Look, the princess can't hold it in any longer. She's about to laugh; she can't keep up the act!"
The demons were astonished as they witnessed the princess deftly sending off Count Selcho, the Vampire Detective, with such ease.
And she did it so cleanly; it seemed that she had no intention of harming the detective. It was as if the detective had gone mad on his own.
But everyone knew that the princess must have had a hand in it!
Lisandra, watching from the car, was full of questions.
Could the princess have been acting yesterday? Just now, she had been worried about the princess, thinking that this test would be dangerous for her, but now it seemed that the princess was completely unfazed.
Wait, the princess looked like she was choking up, not suppressing laughter! Lisandra knew the princess too well.
After thinking about it, Lisandra decided not to dwell on it anymore. As long as it was over, that was all that mattered. She could talk to the princess about it later at their leisure.
As the sky canopy above Nykaulis slowly dispersed, the eclipse came to an end, and the dawn's light began to illuminate the Demon Realm's sky.
She breathed a sigh of relief and leaned back in her chair.
The stars in the sky gradually faded, making way for the rising sun. Through the scattered clouds, a long-missed warmth and brightness filled this mysterious world.
At this moment, the deep purple sky transformed into a warm orange hue, and Nyka Island was enveloped in a soft, radiant glow.
The once shadowy environment between the nearby buildings instantly brightened as the shadows of the night were replaced by pillars of light. The architecture, sculptures, and columns in the square became more defined and intricate. The demonic flora seemed to awaken to Lanfu's song, their leaves rustling gently in the breeze.
The cheerful melody echoing through the streets mirrored Lisandra's mood at that moment.
Lanchi was still stuck in traffic but was almost at the royal palace, where he would drop off Lisandra.
As the sunrise once again revealed itself on the horizon, the bright air, coupled with the sweet voice of the Great Lover poet, revitalized all of Nykaulis.
"Miss Lanfu's singing is truly enchanting. I wish I could see her in person."
Lisandra's heart fluttered as she exclaimed sincerely.
Rumor had it that the Demon Realm songstress's voice could captivate souls and even cause demons to suffocate. Having finally heard her voice today, Lisandra was convinced that she would soon become a superstar in the Demon Realm.
However, this songstress of the Demon Realm remained shrouded in mystery.
While Miss Lanfu's own prowess was undoubtedly crucial, there must also be powerful forces backing her and promoting her relentlessly, which had led to her explosive rise to fame in recent days.
"What's wrong, Macassi?" Lisandra asked, noticing the stiffness in Macassi's expression and the slight twitching of the veins on his forehead. It seemed that the song had stirred up some deeply etched memories.
"It's nothing," Lanchi quickly regained his composure, shaking his head and pinching the bridge of his nose. "I just suddenly thought of my uncle."
Perhaps the post-sunrise glare was too intense, for he reached into a drawer and put on a pair of sunglasses with one hand.
"..."
Something was definitely up.
Lisandra couldn't help but think so as she witnessed Lanchi's current sorrowful state.
"Don't be sad," she consoled him. "Your uncle would want you to be happy and enjoy life, wherever he may be."
"Yes," Lanchi nodded, his gaze lowered as he accepted her words.
He drove slowly, carrying Lisandra to a street not far from the royal palace.
"We can't park any closer, so I'll have to drop you off here," he finally said, pulling over to the side of the road and turning to face her.
"Thank you so much, Mr. Macassi," Lisandra said sincerely.
"Then, I'll see you tomorrow," Lanchi said lightly, waving goodbye.
"Tomorrow?" Lisandra tilted her head, curious.
Could she really be getting another ride tomorrow? Lanchi reached into the food box and took out a box of pastries, which he offered to Lisandra.
She was slightly taken aback and didn't immediately take them.
Of course, she knew these were high-quality treats from Macassi's shop.
Usually, when a man was this nice to a woman, it could easily give her the wrong idea. However, Lisandra was certain that Macassi didn't have any romantic intentions towards her. His thoughts were pure and simple, to the point where he sometimes wore his heart on his sleeve.
There was no way Lisandra could finish a whole box by herself, so she'd have to make them last.
"These are for you and the princess," Lanchi explained.
"You know the princess?!" Lisandra exclaimed in surprise.
In that moment, everything clicked into place. Now she understood why Macassi had been so kind to her and why he had been so captivated by the princess earlier.
So many things made sense now.
Of course, Lisandra didn't believe that Macassi was using her. She felt that he genuinely considered her a friend, and even without this connection, she believed that if she ever faced any difficulties, he would wholeheartedly help her, just as he had sincerely won over Lady Tia yesterday.
"Of course," Lanchi admitted.
"I see," Lisandra murmured.
In this unguarded moment, she couldn't help but exclaim, "What a bizarre coincidence."
"This isn't a coincidence," Lanchi quietly rebutted, not waiting for her to ask further questions.
And she understood. Macassi had bought that palace restaurant simply because Princess Hyberian lived on the other side of the bay.
He had hoped that the princess would attend one of his banquets one day, but she never did.
Then he started casually inquiring about the princess to the demons.
It was only later that he learned that due to her repeated failed escape attempts, the princess was now confined by the Fallen Duke and couldn't leave the palace at all.
This revelation made everything clear to Lisandra.
So, on that night in July, his gaze hadn't just been fixed on the stars in the sky.
In Lisandra's heart, his image became fuller; he was no longer just a wealthy demon trying to curry favor with the nobility.
His purpose was astonishingly simpler than she could have ever imagined.
It was all for a woman he longed to meet, the gentlest woman he knew.
