Chapter 573: Rune Pegasus and Ghost Ship (First Update)
Chapter 573: Rune Pegasus and Ghost Ship (First Update)
The last class of the afternoon ended half an hour early. Jerry, like most of the other young Slytherin witches, returned to the dormitory to put away their books, donned the green cloak with the serpent emblem, and lined up in the basement corridor.
"Jerry, come here!"
Professor Snape, standing at the front of the line, dressed more formally and elegantly than usual, beckoned to Jerry.
Jerry, who had been hiding in the crowd thanks to the Witch Concealment Charm, was immediately the focus of everyone's attention when Professor Snape called out.
The Witch Concealment Charm and the Muggle Concealment Charm share a similar trait: they automatically dissolve when the wearer's name is called out loudly.
"Wow, it's Jerry! It's Jerry!"
The previously quiet Slytherin group suddenly burst into noise.
Because of the Witch Concealment Charm, apart from the fourth-year Slytherin witches, the others had hardly seen Jerry a few times since the start of the term.
"Alright, Professor!"
Jerry, with no choice, stepped out of the line and approached Snape.
Snape's stern gaze swept over the crowd, and all the noise instantly ceased, the silence so profound that a pin drop could be heard.
Don't think that just because Snape is the Head of Slytherin and is usually partial to the house, the young Slytherin witches aren't afraid of him.
They are just as afraid!
"Jerry, I will be accompanying the Headmaster shortly. The Slytherin contingent will be led by you."
After restoring order with a stern look, Snape's expression softened slightly as he instructed Jerry.
Today was the day he would take over as Headmaster, so he needed to accompany Dumbledore to meet the heads of the other two schools.
This meant that Slytherin would be without a leader. That's why he called Jerry out to take his place.
Although Jerry was only in fourth year, his strength and reputation in Slytherin made him the most qualified to lead the house.
This was also a sign of Snape's high expectations for Jerry.
"Slytherin is the most noble and elegant house. I expect you to demonstrate this under Jerry's leadership. If anyone disgraces the house in front of the other two schools, you know the consequences."
After issuing a final stern warning to the seven-year groups of Slytherin witches, Snape left.
Jerry sighed. He didn't really want this responsibility, but since Snape had given him the task, he couldn't refuse. Today was an important day for Snape, and as his closest disciple, it was only right to take on more responsibilities.
"Cough, cough. No need to be so tense. Just form a line and follow me. We'll meet the witches from the other three houses in the entrance hall!"
Turning to the first-year Slytherin witches, who were frozen in fear after Snape's departure, Jerry smiled warmly and led all the Slytherin witches toward the entrance hall on the first floor.
Upon arriving at the entrance hall, the Hufflepuff witches, clad in yellow cloaks, were already lined up under the guidance of Professor Sprout.
A little while later, the Ravenclaw witches in blue cloaks and the Gryffindor witches in red cloaks, led by Professor Flitwick and Professor Mcgonagall, respectively, descended from the upper floors.
"Alright, let's prepare to welcome Beauxbatons and Durmstrang!"
Dumbledore, dressed in a purple robe, shouted and led Snape out of the castle.
Jerry, Professor Sprout, Professor Flitwick, and Professor Mcgonagall followed, leading the young witches from the four houses in a procession out of the castle. They then formed four square formations on the large lawn outside.
Once the formations were set, there were still five minutes before the other schools were due to arrive.
The castle was now enveloped by the night, with a pale, translucent moon hanging over the Forbidden Forest.
The young witches, now at ease, began to whisper among themselves.
Most of them were discussing how the other schools would arrive at Hogwarts—whether by Flying Broom or Portkey.
A few more observant young witches were wondering why Professor Snape was standing beside Headmaster Dumbledore, unlike the other professors.
"Here they come!"
Jerry, standing at the front of the Slytherin formation, looked up toward the moon in the sky.
His eyesight was much sharper than that of ordinary people, so he saw the pale blue carriage under the moonlight, miles away, before anyone else did.
Twelve winged, elephant-sized silver-maned Rune Pegasi pulled the large pale blue carriage, flying through the air toward Hogwarts.
It was the magical school from southern France, Beauxbatons.
As the carriage drew closer, the young witches, alerted by Dumbledore, noticed it and began to exclaim in surprise.
While all the young witches were looking up at the pale blue carriage above the Forbidden Forest, Jerry glanced down at the Black Lake nearby.
He had heard a strange rumbling sound from there and knew that the other school from the cold northern regions of the European continent, Durmstrang, had arrived.
Sure enough, the previously calm Black Lake began to stir, with turbulent waters rising in the center and large waves breaking on the wet shore.
Then, right in the middle of the lake, a large whirlpool formed, as if a giant plug had been pulled from the bottom.
A dark, long pole-like object slowly rose from the center of the whirlpool, followed by the sudden emergence of Durmstrang's distinctive ghost ship.
Jerry had read about ghost ships in magic books; they were unique to Durmstrang, capable of traveling through water and even performing spatial transfers, provided there was enough water at the destination.
He had once planned to get one from Durmstrang, but after learning how to create portals, he abandoned the idea as it was no longer necessary.
"Always the same—when everyone gathers, they can't help but show off a bit..."
As Jerry watched the Rune Pegasus carriage in the sky and the ghost ship in the lake, he remembered a comment Arthur had made about witches during the Quidditch World Cup.
Arriving at the world's premier witch school, Hogwarts, and facing the great Dumbledore and the awe-inspiring Hogwarts Castle, the two schools naturally wanted to put on a show to save face.
And the effect was certainly achieved; the young witches of Hogwarts were indeed amazed by the arrival of the two schools.
However, when the students from the other schools disembarked from the carriage and the ghost ship, they were equally stunned by the imposing Hogwarts Castle and the number of young witches at Hogwarts.
