Chapter 573: My Student
Chapter 573: My Student
On the other side, Kyle, who was still in the maze, had no idea what the audience outside was thinking.
After the hedges that obstructed his view disappeared, he, too, saw the cup at the end of the flames.
The next second, Kyle immediately ran towards it.
A Sphinx creature curled up at the edge of the flames, its original task to guard the path and pose a riddle to challengers. But as Kyle passed by, it suddenly took a keen interest in a stone on the ground, lowering its head as if it hadn't noticed anything.
Kyle reached the cup without any hindrance and, without hesitation, reached out to grasp the sparkling handle.
However, Kyle did not pick up the cup.
He felt as if his entire body had been tugged, and along with a powerful force of attraction, his feet left the ground.
As he had expected, it was a portal key, and Kyle, delighted, did not resist, allowing the cup to carry him forward through the howling wind and swirling colors.
...
Kyle didn't know how long it had been—it could have been a minute or just an instant—but he felt himself standing on solid ground again.
This place was no longer within the boundaries of Hogwarts; it was pitch-black, and in the distance, he could make out a cluster of pointed roofs, as if on a hill.
"Quick, run... Hurry!"
Before Kyle could get a clear look, he heard a panting, breathless scream... a familiar voice.
Kyle looked up and saw Harry lying on the ground. His leg seemed to be injured as he used his arms to desperately crawl towards him.
"It's Voldemort..." Harry cried out in pain. "He's back, and so are the Death Eaters. They..."
Indeed, as Kyle appeared, he found himself surrounded by several individuals clad in black hoods and masks.
"Oh, look who's here..." a hoarse voice said from behind.
The hooded figures immediately made way, bowing reverently as if they were servants.
From amidst the group, a figure stepped forward, clad in the same black cloak but without a mask.
Tall and thin, paler than a skeleton, with red eyes.
And, he had no nose... only two thin slits like a snake... a distinct feature.
Voldemort.
"My student, is this how you greet your professor?" Voldemort asked nonchalantly, seemingly in a good mood. "I thought you'd be delighted to the point of screaming."
"Don't be ridiculous; you're no professor of mine," Kyle immediately retorted.
Harry was right there, and he didn't want to be associated with that statement.
"How heartless," Voldemort said, looking at him. "When you asked me about attaining eternal life, you didn't have this attitude."
"What nonsense about eternal life? I don't understand what you're talking about," Kyle replied.
"Don't acknowledge it? It doesn't matter," Voldemort said, toying with a wand in his fingers.
"You must all be very curious..." he said to the surrounding Death Eaters:
"A few years ago, with Quirinus' help, I returned to Hogwarts. It was a humiliating time, as I could only exist like a parasite, attached to that fool's head. Because the one I trusted the most... not a single one of you tried to find me."
He appeared to be smiling, but his tone was as cold as ice.
The surrounding Death Eaters immediately lowered their heads, prostrating themselves on the ground, both explaining and pleading for Voldemort's forgiveness.
All except one—a man with a missing arm, pale skin, and freckles on his face—held his head high.
"Back then, a boy was the first to discover my existence."
Voldemort didn't spare a glance at those kneeling as he continued, "That clever boy caused me quite a bit of trouble. He seemed to know a lot and had the courage to even dare threaten the Dark Lord..."
Voldemort's eyes fixed intently on Kyle.
One of the Death Eaters crawled forward on his knees, "I made the Triwizard Cup into a Portkey... that's how I brought him here. He is one of the champions."
"Oh, Karkaroff." Voldemort glanced at him, "I thought that you, a cowardly and weak traitor, would flee as soon as you learned of my resurrection."
"Master, I would never betray you," Karkaroff buried his head even lower, his whole body pressed to the ground.
"I was merely biding my time, ready to welcome your return... By the way, it was I who captured Harry Potter."
"Oh?" Voldemort looked at the only one who was still standing. "Bartemius, is it?"
"He only agreed to help because he was too afraid." Bartemius Crouch Jr. sneered.
Although he was deflecting the conversation, he was also indirectly acknowledging Karkaroff's contribution.
How strange...
Kyle frowned. It was Karkaroff who had exposed Bartemius Crouch Jr. as a Death Eater, yet now he was not only refraining from kicking him while he was down but also speaking up for him...
Were the Death Eaters that magnanimous?
But now was not the time for Kyle to ponder this further.
"Capture him..." Voldemort suddenly shouted, "I want him alive!"
The surrounding Death Eaters immediately sprang into action, but Kyle was faster.
A roaring fire dragon emerged from his wand and devoured one of the fastest-running Death Eaters in an instant.
The man's screams lasted less than a second before falling silent.
"It's Fiendfyre!" someone shrieked.
The other Death Eaters also instinctively backed away, their confusion evident even through their masks.
Isn't this just a student?
Shouldn't he be using spells like the Blasting Curse or Disarming Charm?
Who is this student, casting Fiendfyre so effortlessly and with such skill?
As they gazed at the lifelike fire dragon wreaking havoc in the sky, they all thought of Voldemort's first words upon seeing this person.
"...my student."
Well, that explained everything.
"You bunch of idiots!" Voldemort shrieked.
He merely lifted his wand, and the fire dragon composed of Fiendfyre vanished instantly.
But that brief moment was all Kyle needed.
When the Death Eaters looked at Kyle again, they noticed he now held a golden feather and an inconspicuous bead.
Almost instinctively, Voldemort felt a surge of panic.
"Quick, stop him..."
"Crush!"
Before Voldemort could finish his sentence, Kyle simultaneously crushed the two objects in his hands.
The next second, the entire hilltop was enveloped in thick mist.
The fog blocked everyone's vision, and the Death Eaters rushing towards Kyle lost their target, colliding with each other.
"Bang..."
"What's happening..."
"I've got him, Master... I've got him!"
The Death Eaters were in chaos, and one of them even grabbed Voldemort as he ran by, his finger poking at his nose...
"Avada..."
A flash of green light pierced the mist.
"Useless, all of you!" Voldemort was furious.
But the mist had appeared so suddenly that even he had not reacted in time.
