Chapter 572: Beauxbatons and Durmstrang (Second Update)
Chapter 572: Beauxbatons and Durmstrang (Second Update)
Another month had passed.
Nothing particularly noteworthy happened during this month, but Jerry felt that Hermione seemed more proactive than before.
For example, whenever there was a need to remove the Muggle-Repelling Charm and a girl approached him, Hermione would immediately walk over and grab his arm, as if making a statement.
Sometimes, when they were alone together, Jerry felt that Hermione seemed to want to do something but would eventually give up due to shyness.
He was aware of these changes but didn't particularly try to change anything.
Hermione had just turned fifteen after her birthday. Although she looked like a grown woman due to her early development, in Jerry's eyes, she was still a minor. So, they continued to spend time together slowly, and he found it quite pleasant.
He had plenty of time and was staying in this world for a while to understand the world's laws and expand the ring world, so he wasn't in a hurry.
"What's going on over there? Why are there so many people?"
On Saturday noon, Jerry and Hermione had just left the library and were heading to the Great Hall for lunch when they saw a crowd of young witches surrounding the entrance hall.
"There might be some important announcement!"
Jerry was tall and had excellent eyesight, so he easily saw through the crowd of little kids to the new large notice board that had been set up inside.
At that moment, Harry and Ron emerged from the crowd and ran over to Hermione and Jerry, excitedly saying:
"The latest notice for the Triwizard Tournament: The representatives from Beauxbatons and Durmstrang will arrive at six o'clock on the evening of Friday, October 30th.
The afternoon classes will end half an hour early that day—"
"They're coming, so what? Why are you two so excited?"
Hermione looked at the overly happy Harry and Ron, puzzled.
Harry explained with excitement:
"You forgot, Friday afternoon is Potions class. If it ends half an hour early, Snape won't have time to poison us!"
"Great, I don't want to be poisoned before I graduate."
Ron shared the same sentiment.
Jerry smiled and shook his head:
"Professor Snape is just trying to scare you. He won't necessarily poison you, and even if he does, he'll have the antidote ready."
It turned out that during this period, Professor Snape had been teaching the class how to brew antidotes. To ensure the young witches took the lesson seriously, he had made a threat.
He said that at the end of the next Friday's class, he would randomly poison a student and have that student take the antidote they had made.
If the antidote worked, there would be no problem. If it didn't, well, tough luck.
Snape's serious expression when he made this threat had convinced many of the young witches that he wasn't joking, which was why Harry and Ron were so excited.
"I'm not so sure. I feel like he really wants to poison me, and he'll probably pick me that day."
Harry said with a serious expression.
He knew all too well how much Snape disliked him. The idea of randomly picking a student seemed like a facade, and he was certain Snape would target him.
The key was that he had little confidence in the antidote he had made.
"Alright!"
Jerry nodded.
He had to admit that, while he knew Snape valued Harry's life highly due to his promise to Lily,
But because of Harry's father, if the poisoner really had to randomly choose a target on Friday, it would undoubtedly be Harry.
"Take care!"
Jerry patted Harry on the shoulder and left with Hermione to have dinner.
He suddenly thought of something: even if Snape didn't have time to conduct the poisoning test that day, Harry's mood would definitely not be good.
Because the day Beauxbatons and Durmstrang arrived was also the day Dumbledore announced his retirement and Snape's appointment as the new headmaster.
Just imagine Harry's expression when he finds out that the professor who dislikes him the most and is the harshest on him, Professor Snape, is going to become the headmaster. It would be a mix of horror and discomfort.
For the rest of the week, due to the announcement, all the topics of conversation in the school revolved around the other two schools and the Triwizard Tournament.
There were discussions about what the students from the other schools would be like, who the Hogwarts champion would be, and what kinds of events had taken place in previous Triwizard Tournaments.
Many young witches, who hadn't reached the required age, were looking for various resources, trying to find ways to age themselves.
For example, the Weasley twins were collecting various herbs to make two vials of Ageing Potion before the champion selection.
Besides the students, the entire castle had undergone some changes.
Several dirty portraits had been cleaned, though the characters in the portraits were clearly unhappy about it.
The armor had been polished to a shine and no longer creaked when moved.
Caretaker Argus Filch would fly into a rage if he saw a student forget to clean their shoes, scaring two first-year girls into hysterics.
The other staff members also seemed unusually tense.
According to Hermione, Professor Mcgonagall, who rarely lost her temper, severely reprimanded Neville for accidentally grafting his ear onto a cactus. She told him not to embarrass Hogwarts with his poor Transfiguration skills when the other schools arrived.
In short, Jerry felt that the entire Hogwarts community was taking the Triwizard Tournament and the arrival of the delegations from the other two top magical schools very seriously.
It was no wonder Dumbledore wanted him to be the champion, to help Hogwarts win the Goblet of Fire.
He was probably worried that if Hogwarts lost the Triwizard Tournament right after Snape's appointment, it would not only jeopardize the headmaster's position but also tarnish Hogwarts' reputation as the top magical school.
On the morning of October 30th, the day the announcement said the other two schools would arrive, Jerry noticed while having breakfast with Hermione that the Great Hall's decorations had changed.
He guessed that Professor Flitwick, the Head of Ravenclaw, had used magic to make the adjustments overnight.
Four huge silk banners had been added to the walls, each representing one of Hogwarts' houses:
A red banner with a golden lion for Gryffindor, a blue banner with a bronze eagle for Ravenclaw, a yellow banner with a black badger for Hufflepuff, and a green banner with a silver serpent for Slytherin.
Behind the staff table hung the largest banner, featuring the Hogwarts Crest: a lion, an eagle, a badger, and a snake surrounding a large letter H.
