Chapter 571: The Disappearance of Barty Crouch Jr.
Chapter 571: The Disappearance of Barty Crouch Jr.
A few minutes later, Ivan found himself alone once again in the Common Room.
The farce had come to an end.
Ivan shook his head and extinguished the fire in the hearth. At least he had managed to mend things with Hermione, so he didn't feel the need to pursue George and the others for their mischief.
"Right, might as well see what he's up to," Ivan muttered to himself as he walked down the hallway toward the Dormitory. He took out the Marauder's Map to find Barty Crouch Jr. and confirm his whereabouts.
However, as Ivan's gaze swept across the entire map, he was surprised to find no trace of Barty Crouch Jr.
"Could Barty Crouch Jr. have left the castle unexpectedly?" Ivan wondered, but quickly dismissed the thought when a familiar name caught his eye.
Alastor Moody!
"How is this possible?" Ivan felt a chill run down his spine as he watched the name slowly moving on the Marauder's Map.
The Mad-Eye Moody at the school was actually the real one, not Barty Crouch Jr. in disguise.
Otherwise, even if he could find Mad-Eye Moody's name on the Marauder's Map, he should have been trapped somewhere, not wandering around the castle at night!
Ivan sensed that things were spiraling beyond his control.
Could Voldemort have changed his resurrection plan? If so, why? Was it related to him?
A myriad of thoughts flooded Ivan's mind, and his frown deepened. This meant he might lose the advantage he had gained from being a "seer."
But why was Mad-Eye Moody out at this hour? Ivan's curiosity was piqued as he stared intently at the Marauder's Map.
From the map, it seemed that Mad-Eye Moody was wandering down a corridor in the castle. After a while, he entered the staff Common Room and stopped moving, likely preparing to sleep.
"Should I go and check?" Ivan rubbed his chin, considering the idea of sneaking into Mad-Eye Moody's Common Room to verify the situation. But he quickly dismissed the thought. As an experienced and highly suspicious Auror, Mad-Eye Moody would undoubtedly have security measures in place. Ivan would likely be discovered the moment he entered, leading to a misunderstanding.
"Dammit, what about the Triwizard Tournament?" Ivan grumbled as he put away the Marauder's Map. He had originally planned to control Barty Crouch Jr. to cast the Confundus Charm, but that plan was now in jeopardy.
The next morning, Ivan woke up groggy after a sleepless night. He washed up quickly and prepared to start the new term.
It had rained all night, and the sky was still overcast, with large, dark gray clouds blocking the sunlight, making it feel like evening despite the early hour.
"What classes do we have today? Oh, Herbology, Care of Magical Creatures, and Divination class!" Harry checked the schedule and rummaged through his trunk for the necessary books.
"I really hope it doesn't rain, or we'll have to cancel Care of Magical Creatures!" Ron looked out the window at the gloomy sky and complained.
But Ron quickly changed his mind. He wished he could slap himself for hoping for a downpour!
Today's classes were a nightmare. Apart from Professor Sprout's Herbology, the other two classes were a disaster!
Hagrid had somehow procured a creature called a Blast-Ended Skrewt and tasked them with taking care of it.
This creature was disgustingly revolting, resembling deformed, shell-less lobsters with an intensely pungent fishy odor that made it impossible to like them.
The afternoon Divination class was no better. Professor Trelawney muttered cryptically about ominous omens for the year, attempting to predict Harry's birth date from planetary orbits and insisting it must have been in winter!
Finally, Professor Trelawney assigned a classroom task, distributing a complex circular chart to each student and instructing them to fill in the positions of the planets at the time of their birth, believing that the planets' movements contained a mysterious portent.
Ivan filled out his chart haphazardly, having no idea where the nine planets were at the time of his birth. He glanced at Harry and Ron, who seemed to be filling theirs randomly as well.
Only Hermione diligently followed the formulas, performing precise calculations.
Although the final results were far from accurate.
"She must be mad, spouting nonsense in class. Everyone knows Harry was born at the end of July, yet Professor Trelawney thinks you were born in winter! That's not even close!"
After class, Ron couldn't help but complain as soon as he left the classroom, feeling that choosing Divination was a terrible decision!
"Even masters make mistakes, don't they? Professor Trelawney successfully predicted Peter's escape and the Dark Lord's return!" Hermione defended Trelawney.
Since the previous prophecy was confirmed, Hermione's attitude toward Divination had changed. She became enthusiastic, even attempting several prophecies based on textbook knowledge in her free time!
Unfortunately, most of them were incorrect.
This left Hermione somewhat discouraged; she seemed to have no talent for prophecy.
"Who knows if it was just a lucky guess? Maybe she was just spouting random words last time! The Dark Lord has been dead for over a decade; he can't come back!" Ron shrugged, Trelawney's rambling during class made him increasingly skeptical of the accuracy of her prophecies.
"Have you forgotten? We dealt with him a few years ago, didn't we?" Ivan looked at Ron in surprise.
"Oh, right! You and Harry have met him." Ron's tone was dismissive. He hadn't seen Voldemort himself and instinctively believed that the Dark Lord's return was impossible!
The Ministry of Magic and Professor Dumbledore weren't just for show.
Ivan could see what Ron was thinking, shook his head, and said nothing more.
Of course, Trelawney's prophecies couldn't all be correct.
After all, she frightened a few first-years each year, claiming to see the sign of death in them.
Most of these predictions never came true; otherwise, Hogwarts would be losing students every year, and no one would dare to attend!
However, under certain circumstances, Trelawney's words were quite accurate.
Especially when she muttered something inadvertently or while in a daze, those were true prophecies!
They would always be verified!
Unfortunately, the prediction of the Dark Lord's return was one such true prophecy!
