Chapter 57: Young Man, Don't Be Too Arrogant
Chapter 57: Young Man, Don't Be Too Arrogant
Owen instinctively took a step back, his face pale with terror as he shouted, "Help! Someone, help! There's an assassin!"
The shrill, fear-laden voice made Jile frown, his eyes flashing with disdain as he looked at Owen.
_When the enemy has already breached the inner chambers, it's obvious that the guards have been killed. Yet, this fool is still screaming like a madman. What a disgrace._
_How did I never realize this guy was such an idiot before?_
Owen, realizing the futility of his cries, turned ashen, cold sweat dripping down his forehead.
Jile ignored the fool and turned to Su Nan, a playful smile on his lips.
"Su Nan Yanez, I've heard of you, the legendary wizard."
"The Marquis has spoken highly of you, calling you a promising young man. How about considering serving the Marquis? With enough merit, not just a barony, but even a viscountcy can be yours!"
"Who are you?" Su Nan glanced at Jile.
"Jile Konors, the Marquis of Gold Rock's special envoy."
Jile lifted his chin slightly, his tone tinged with arrogance.
"So, you're just one of the Marquis of Gold Rock's dogs." Su Nan shook his head.
Jile's smile faltered, his face darkening as he coldly retorted, "Young man, don't be too arrogant. Just because you're a wizard doesn't mean you can look down on everyone. There are many in this world far more powerful than you."
"So what?" Su Nan sneered.
Seeing Su Nan's dismissive attitude from start to finish, Jile was finally pushed over the edge, his face turning cold and stern.
"It seems you're just a fool who can't see the situation clearly. I overestimated you. Someone like you doesn't deserve to serve the Marquis."
"Very well, since you're here, you won't be leaving. Leave your life here."
"Hodge, it's up to you."
The last sentence was directed at the cloaked man beside him.
Hodge nodded, pulling off his cloak to reveal a weathered face in his forties, along with a silver-scaled breastplate and a steel longsword.
"I've heard many tales about wizards, but today is my first encounter. I hope you don't disappoint."
Hodge's eyes gleamed with intense battle spirit as he fixed his gaze on Su Nan.
Without waiting for a response, he swung his sword with a powerful arc.
A piercing sound filled the air, and a crimson blade of fire energy formed in the wake of the sword, slicing through the void and hurtling toward Su Nan.
"Elemental Power!"
Su Nan's eyes narrowed, but he didn't dodge. An invisible shield materialized in front of him, blocking the fiery blade.
The miss didn't disappoint Hodge. He leaped forward, dashing toward Su Nan in a blur of speed.
Su Nan casually flicked a bolt of lightning, slightly impeding Hodge's advance, and took the opportunity to swiftly retreat, exiting the hall in the blink of an eye.
Watching the two men exit the hall one after the other, Owen stood frozen in shock, his face pale with astonishment.
"Elemental Power. Sir Hodge is a Legendary Knight!"
Jile chuckled, "I told you, with Sir Hodge here, there's nothing to worry about."
Snapping out of his shock, Owen felt a wave of relief and excitement wash over him.
_A Legendary Knight is the pinnacle of the duchy's fighting force!_
_One Legendary Knight can take on dozens of Great Knights!_
_With a Legendary Knight here, what do I have to fear?_
Owen's fear and panic vanished, replaced by an expression of sheer excitement.
The two men immediately left the hall and stepped into the courtyard outside.
The once serene and elegant courtyard was now a mess, littered with broken wood and rubble.
Hodge wielded his longsword, which blazed with fierce flames, launching relentless attacks at Su Nan.
The latter was almost pinned to the spot, unable to dodge, and could only rely on his shield and protective ring for defense. Occasionally, he would raise his hand to unleash bolts of lightning and gusts of wind in retaliation.
Flames, lightning, and gales intertwined and clashed, creating a deafening roar.
Unlike Great Knights, who could only generate their own battle aura, Legendary Knights had, to a certain extent, transcended the limitations of their physical bodies and could communicate with the free-floating energy particles of nature.
They were similar to Second-Rank Wizard Apprentices in that they had both gained a preliminary understanding of manipulating these energy particles.
The difference was that most Legendary Knights could only convert a single type of energy particle into a single elemental form, unlike Wizard Apprentices, who could manipulate various types of energy particles and employ a wider range of techniques.
Even so, the mastery of elemental power by Legendary Knights brought about a dramatic transformation in their combat capabilities.
To put it simply, they had evolved from mere physical warriors into hybrid magic-warriors.
Moreover, these magic-warriors could absorb energy particles to replenish their reserves, greatly enhancing their endurance.
With the mastery of elemental power, a Legendary Knight could single-handedly take on an army and sway the outcome of a small-scale conflict.
Due to their immense power and rarity, Legendary Knights were seldom seen on the battlefield in recent years. They were more often used as strategic weapons, deployed only when absolutely necessary.
To be honest, encountering a Legendary Knight here was indeed a surprise for Su Nan.
Dealing with such a powerful opponent as a Second-Rank Wizard Apprentice was a daunting task.
At that moment, Su Nan's expression shifted, a smile flickering across his face.
At the same time, Hodge seemed to sense something and abruptly swung his sword at his side.
Clang!
A burst of sparks erupted from the empty air, accompanied by a low hiss.
Hodge's sword cut through the air, the intense heat causing it to waver slightly, revealing the vague outline of a massive, four-legged beast.
It quickly transformed into an ethereal form, avoiding the flames and retreating to Su Nan's side, letting out a low hiss.
Su Nan chuckled softly, "Well done."
Hodge narrowed his eyes, his gaze fixed on the spot beside Su Nan.
Though there was nothing visible, he could clearly sense the position of the Hidden Dragon.
"Exactly as the intelligence described, a beast that can perfectly conceal itself."
"But if you think that's enough to defeat me, you're sorely underestimating a Legendary Knight."
At the level of a Legendary Knight, determining an enemy's position relied more on perception than on sight.
Unless the opponent could hide their aura, even if they eliminated their shape, sound, and scent, a Legendary Knight could still pinpoint their location through perception.
At the hall's entrance, Jile watched the scene with a disdainful expression.
"It's useless, Su Nan."
"The power of a Legendary Knight far exceeds your imagination. Your tricks are no match for Sir Hodge!"
Su Nan didn't even bother to respond to Jile's taunts.
When it came to understanding Legendary Knights, he was probably the most knowledgeable person in the room, including Hodge himself.
In his previous life, he had taken down at least seventy Legendary Knights, if not a hundred.
Among them were even those who had mastered the power of space.
In comparison, Hodge was only average.
Though he was a challenge, Su Nan wasn't without a solution.
"I'm going to have to spend some more money."
Su Nan sighed, and with a flick of his wrist, several gleaming rune gems appeared in his palm.
