Chapter 57: Sasuke: Please Teach Me, Lord
Chapter 57: Sasuke: Please Teach Me, Lord
Huff...Huff...Huff...
Sasuke, already injured, felt his body protesting the relentless sprint. Yet, he gritted his teeth and bore the pain, his eyes fixed intently on Huyi Xuanyue.
With the insight granted by his Sharingan, it was easy to distinguish between a living person and a reanimated corpse. Based on the information provided by Naruto and Sakura, coupled with his own experience of being unable to muster any rebellious thoughts against Huyi's gaze, there was no doubt that the man who stood before him was the legendary figure said to rival the gods, whose brilliance dimmed even the Five Kage. He had truly escaped death and returned to the world of the living.
Such an incredibly powerful and unimaginable being—even that person whom Sasuke loathed so deeply could not match him.
With this thought, Sasuke's hesitation vanished. He stopped Huyi Xuanyue in his tracks and bluntly stated, "I want to become stronger! No matter the method, as long as it makes me stronger, I'm willing to do anything you ask of me!"
Huyi Xuanyue, biting into his takoyaki, gave Sasuke a quizzical look. He hadn't expected that Sasuke's pursuit of power would lead him straight to his doorstep.
"Has this guy always been so bold?" he wondered. "Doesn't he fear that I could snap him like a twig? Or is it the confidence that comes from being an Uchiha, from possessing the Sharingan?" Huyi Xuanyue's speculation wasn't far from the truth.
As the sole survivor of the Uchiha clan in Konoha, Sasuke, bearer of the powerful bloodline limit of the Sharingan, had attracted the attention of individuals like Orochimaru. This had also inadvertently made him aware of his own significance.
Scarcity breeds value.
No one could ignore the Uchiha clan.
This was the source of Sasuke's boldness.
However, this time was different.
Huyi Xuanyue wasn't one to indulge Sasuke's demands.
As for the Uchiha clan, he'd encountered plenty of them back when the Huyi and Uchiha clans had a friendly treaty, essentially an alliance. He'd seen too many Uchiha ninjas with similar personalities, perhaps even ancestors of Sasuke's line.
The Sharingan, considered extremely powerful in the current ninja world, didn't impress him much.
Unless it was the Mangekyo Sharingan—that would warrant his attention.
"Brat, didn't anyone teach you how to properly ask for something?" Huyi Xuanyue remarked as he walked past Sasuke, paying him no further heed.
After all, the Huyi and Uchiha clans had historically maintained a cordial relationship, with intermarriages between the two clans over the years.
While he may not have approved of Uchiha Madara's arrogance, he had a favorable opinion of Madara's brother, Uchiha Izuna, and their relationship had been amicable.
That peaceful time had been shattered when the evil Senju elder had struck down Izuna with a surprise attack, leading to his severe injury and eventual death.
The once-prosperous Uchiha clan of Konoha now stood on the brink of extinction, with only a single heir remaining.
Out of respect for the past ties between their clans and the resemblance Izuna and Sasuke shared, Huyi Xuanyue didn't bear any ill will towards Sasuke.
However, whether he would take things further depended on Sasuke's performance.
At that moment, as Sasuke witnessed Huyi Xuanyue's indifference, his expression shifted rapidly.
Consumed by hatred, his entire life had revolved around his own desires.
As a proud member of the Uchiha clan, even when Kakashi had taught him the Chidori, he had never addressed him as "sensei," choosing instead to call him by his name directly.
Fortunately, Kakashi, having experienced much in his life, didn't mind this, but had it been any other team leader, they surely would not have tolerated Sasuke's attitude.
'Huyi Xuanyue isn't like Orochimaru, fixated on my body, and can easily tolerate my rudeness,' Sasuke quickly realized.
In other matters, Sasuke's pride might have led him to act as he pleased.
But when it came to his quest for vengeance, he was willing to set aside everything else! He recalled his encounter with Itachi, where his brother had looked down on him with the same condescension as years ago, easily breaking through his Chidori and mocking him for wasting his time.
Finally, he ran back to Huyi Xuanyue once more, lowering his usually proud head and bowing as he made his request, "Lord Huyi, please teach me how to become stronger! I swear upon the name of Uchiha that as long as I can avenge my clan, I am willing to do anything for you."
What a rare sight—the skies had cleared, the rain had stopped, and for the first time, Uchiha Sasuke felt a sense of inadequacy.
Huyi Xuanyue stopped and finished off the last of his takoyaki before asking, "Brat, do you know who I am?"
"The legendary Huyi Xuanyue!" Sasuke replied.
"Seems like you still have some gaps in your knowledge of history," Huyi Xuanyue remarked.
If Sasuke had continued his education within the Uchiha clan, instead of merely being nurtured by a bunch of mediocre Jonin teachers at the Ninja Academy, his current strength would surely be even more impressive, and he would have had a clearer understanding of the history of the Uchiha clan.
For example, the relationship between the Uchiha and the Huyi clans.
Had he been aware of the long-standing alliance between the two clans, he could have tried to appeal to Huyi Xuanyue's emotions right now, given that he was the clan leader of the Huyi clan, and Sasuke was the sole surviving member of the Uchiha clan.
Perhaps Sasuke, at this moment, didn't even know about the existence of the Huyi clan, let alone the significance of his own surname.
Never mind.
Huyi Xuanyue shook his head and looked at Sasuke, "If you want to follow me and seek greater power, you must defect from Konoha. Can you do that?"
Sasuke lowered his head and remained silent for a moment before a determined look appeared in his eyes.
Kakashi, and Konoha as a whole, had nothing more to teach him.
Even Kakashi himself had been easily defeated by Itachi.
There was no point in staying by their side any longer; he saw no hope in that path.
Only by becoming stronger, so strong that even Uchiha Itachi would pale in comparison, could he find someone worthy of following.
And so, Sasuke lifted his head and turned back to Huyi Xuanyue, about to agree.
Suddenly—
The voices of Naruto and Sakura could be heard not too far away.
"Sasuke! Where have you run off to?"
"Sasuke! Where are you?"
"It's been so long, Sasuke must have gotten into some danger!"
"Naruto, don't jinx it!"
"Sasuke..."
"...!"
The voices were getting closer.
As Sasuke was about to nod in agreement, memories of his time with Naruto and Sakura flashed through his mind, making it difficult for him to give his answer.
"It seems you haven't fully made up your mind yet," Huyi Xuanyue observed calmly.
"Come find me in the Valley of Fallen Gods after you've truly cut all ties," he said, and with that, Huyi Xuanyue disappeared.
Sasuke wanted to say something, but he was too late. He stared at the spot where Huyi Xuanyue had vanished, his eyes filled with complicated emotions.
The next second—
"Sasuke! I finally found you!"
Naruto, the first to spot Sasuke, heaved a sigh of relief and quickly ran over, complaining, "What are you doing so far away? We haven't even had a chance to eat yet."
Sakura, who had been a step behind, pushed Naruto aside and asked with concern, "Sasuke, are you alright? Did the bandages on your body tear open?"
"I'm fine," Sasuke replied, his gaze steady as he looked at Naruto and Sakura.
"I just went for a walk. Let's head back now," he said, his tone calm.
He would find an opportunity to sever all ties and put an end to this once and for all.
