Chapter 57: Grayborn Academy
Chapter 57: Grayborn Academy
A week later, in the morning.
Hass was in the bathroom styling his hair when Elsa tiptoed over, her head lowered.
“Dad, I just made a tiny, tiny mistake. You won’t be angry, right?”
“Honey, what happened?”
Hass stopped using the hair spray, a sense of foreboding creeping into his mind.
Elsa’s eyes darted around as she whispered, “Well, when I was flying on my magic broom to your room, your Transformer suddenly attacked me, and then it got smashed by my Magic!”
“What? Transformer? Sweetie, you don’t mean the Optimus Prime model I waited in line for three days to buy last year, do you?”
Hass quickly understood what his daughter meant, his heart skipping a beat.
Elsa slowly nodded.
“It’s okay, it’s just a model. We’re still going to the amusement park today, so... why don’t you go change your clothes?”
That Optimus Prime model was a limited edition, and it was impossible to find now. But seeing his daughter, Hass couldn’t bring himself to scold her. He silently regretted not closing the door when he left the room.
Seeing Hass’s pained expression, Elsa suddenly looked up and smiled, “Dad, I was just joking. Your Transformer is still on the table!”
Hearing this, Hass felt as if he had been transported from hell to heaven, his mood instantly brightening.
But before he could scold Elsa for her mischief, she quickly added, “Only, I accidentally broke your two lightsabers. That wasn’t a joke!”
“Lightsabers? Ah, it’s okay, as long as Optimus is fine, we can buy new lightsabers next time!”
Realizing it was just the lightsabers, Hass suddenly felt it wasn’t that bad. They weren’t limited editions, so he could always buy new ones later.
Jerry, who was in the living room preparing for their outing, couldn’t help but chuckle at the conversation in the bathroom.
He found his sister, though usually silly, was quite clever when it mattered, especially when it came to dealing with Hass.
If Elsa had accidentally broken Hass’s beloved lightsabers, Hass might not have been in a good mood, which would have ruined their day at the amusement park with Miss Berry. But now, thanks to Elsa’s trick, Hass was in an even better mood.
Watching Elsa strut out of the bathroom with a triumphant smile, Jerry laughed and urged her, “Stop playing around. Get dressed, we’re leaving soon!”
Around 9:30 in the morning,
Jerry and Elsa climbed into Hass’s police car and headed to a famous large amusement park in Manhattan.
Miss Berry was already waiting at the entrance, tickets in hand.
Jerry wasn’t particularly interested in going to the amusement park, but Elsa loved it, and Hass rarely had the time to spend with her. Additionally, Miss Berry wanted to use this opportunity to build a closer relationship with everyone, so he didn’t object.
Compared to flying on a magic broom or practicing Magic, the amusement park’s attractions didn’t capture his interest as much.
“Ah, help! I can’t take it anymore, I’m going to die! Let me off!”
Inside the roller coaster, as the screams of Hass and the others around him filled the air, Jerry silently pondered whether he would earn any Little Red Stars if he stopped the roller coaster with Magic right now.
Considering how terrified everyone on the roller coaster was, with tears almost streaming down their faces, they would undoubtedly be genuinely relieved to get off. Stopping the roller coaster to help them would surely count as a good deed and earn him some Little Red Stars.
However, not today. He could try it another day when he had the time to come alone.
The roller coaster, the drop tower, and the haunted house—all these attractions seemed to have a chance of earning Little Red Stars.
They played until around two in the afternoon, having tried almost half of the amusement park's rides. By then, the four of them were famished and left the park to drive to bustling Broadway in search of a place to eat.
“Wat, what the hell is this guy doing?!”
On the crowded street, a taxi dangerously cut in front of Hass's car, making Hass almost curse out loud. He restrained himself only because Elsa and Jerry, two kids, were in the car.
A moment later, when Hass's car stopped at a traffic light, Jerry saw the reckless taxi from the car window. It had come to a sudden stop by the roadside, and a man and a woman quickly got out.
The man began to breathe deeply, trying to control his heartbeat, while the woman, with a look of fury, started yelling at the taxi driver, clearly furious at the dangerous driving.
“Jerry, Elsa, look over there. That's Grayborn Academy, where your teacher went to university. We'll take you in for a tour after we eat!”
Miss Berry, sitting in the passenger seat, pointed to a university by the roadside and turned to smile at Jerry and Elsa.
“Grayborn Academy is one of the top universities in New York. Your father hopes you will get into a university like this one someday!”
Hass, who was driving, chimed in.
“No problem, Jerry and Elsa are so smart. They'll definitely get into an even better university!”
Belle encouraged Jerry and Elsa.
Hass, however, shook his head inwardly.
Jerry would have no issue, and with his intelligence, getting into Mit wouldn't be a problem. The real concern was his daughter, who had never passed a math test.
Forget Grayborn Academy; whether she could even get into a third-rate university was questionable.
After eating, it was already four in the afternoon. To help digest their meal and give Jerry and Elsa a taste of university life, Hass and Belle took them into Grayborn Academy.
“Truly a top-notch university!”
Walking on the cobblestone paths of Grayborn Academy, Jerry marveled at the beautiful scenery and the vibrant young students around him. He couldn't help but reflect on his previous life.
In his past life, he had attended a public community college. The good part was that the tuition was very affordable, but the downside was that the entire campus was smaller than the high school he had attended in his county.
When he first arrived at the college with his suitcase, he almost turned around and went back to retake his exams, considering the family's financial situation.
His previous college experience had been lonely, and perhaps this life would give him a chance to make up for it.
