Chapter 569: Warning from the Detection Ball
Chapter 569: Warning from the Detection Ball
"The Quidditch match should be happening in the next two weeks." Albert turned his head to look out the window. It was raining again! He knew exactly what the Quidditch match meant.
The second attack would be the perfect opportunity to make his move, and he needed to ensure he had enough time to prepare.
However, Albert hadn't figured out how to deal with the aftermath of Tom Riddle's diary.
Intervening in this matter would mean risking exposure.
Additionally, he needed to find someone else to frame for it, deceiving Voldemort and removing himself from the equation.
Who would be suitable for that?
Professor Lockhart, a Slytherin student, or Harry Potter?
On top of that, he also needed the Polyjuice Potion.
The potion was not among the stock in his storage, but he still had the horn of a two-horned beast and fragments of Boomslang skin that he had obtained from Snape last time. However, the Polyjuice Potion took too long to brew.
He wondered if Hekto had any Polyjuice Potion in storage and if he could get some from him or ask Bard for help. With the might of the Wildsmith family, it shouldn't be difficult for them to obtain some.
"I'll brew a batch myself when I have the time."
When would he have the time? Albert suddenly found the thought amusing.
Speaking of which, Nicholas had already prepared the ingredients for the Wake-Up Potion for him, asking him to figure out a way to receive the raw materials. Albert already had his hands full with other matters! Even with the time-turner, he still felt pressed for time.
Not only was the snake in the Chamber of Secrets giving him a headache, but there were also a multitude of other problems. If it weren't for the help of the skill panel, he would have collapsed from exhaustion by now.
He barely had any time to enjoy a moment of peace.
Albert lazily leaned back in his wooden rocking chair, watching the raindrops splatter against the glass window. The cold air from outside seeped through the glass, but he sat comfortably by the crackling fireplace.
A cup of steaming milk tea was placed in front of him, and Isabelle smiled as she teased, "What are you thinking about?"
"I'm thinking about when we can finally live the leisurely life that countless people dream of." Albert took the cup from her, relishing the warmth that spread through his hands as he took a delicate sip, then sighed softly.
"If you keep sighing like that, you'll end up discouraging yourself!" Isabelle said softly. "Come on, keep pushing forward! Bad times will pass."
If it weren't for the issue with the snake in the Chamber of Secrets, this semester would have been quite comfortable.
Indeed, it would be best to let Voldemort's diary go to hell! He would find someone else to frame for it later. First, he would contact Bard to see if he could get some Polyjuice Potion from him.
It wouldn't be good to keep asking Hekto for favors all the time. It was best to minimize the use of such personal debts.
As for Bard, he was an elder, after all.
"Is that a gift for Nia?" Isabelle examined the half-finished accessory on the table.
"No." Albert took a sip and put down his cup. "This is something Kenneth Towler wants."
"Kenneth Towler?" Isabelle raised an eyebrow.
"He plans to make some money with this after the second attack." Albert explained.
"Will this really be useful against the monster in the Chamber of Secrets?" Isabelle arched an eyebrow. Although she knew that Albert had a good foundation in alchemy, the creature in the Chamber of Secrets was a dangerous being that could petrify people or animals with its gaze.
"It should have some repelling effect on ordinary dark creatures, but I doubt it will do much against the monster in the Chamber." Albert scoffed, "In Kenneth's words, it's just for peace of mind."
"That con artist."
"I've told him... well, he does have the potential to be a shrewd businessman." Albert finished his milk tea and started assembling the items on the table. He had crafted a bracelet with obsidian and amethyst beads, similar to the cheap trinkets he remembered from his previous life's street stalls. Despite its humble appearance, he had put a lot of effort into making it and had even inscribed ancient magical runes on each bead to enhance its defensive capabilities.
Finally, he had also cast a Repelling Charm on it.
Speaking of which, the Repelling Charm was something he had learned in his fourth year. It could repel Muggles, objects, and even owls, and naturally, it would work on dark creatures as well.
"Should I get a gift for Nia too?"
"Never mind, you can come with me to pick out Christmas gifts later." Albert took Isabelle's hand, understanding what she was thinking. "In a couple of years, I'll send them away from Britain to a safe place. By the time this is all over, she'll have grown up."
"Ahem, have you figured out what the monster in the Chamber of Secrets is yet?" Suddenly, a voice rang out in the Room of Requirement.
"Oh, I guess it's some sort of dark creature." Albert sighed as he saw Katrina, feeling relieved that he hadn't forgotten about her presence there.
Ever since Isabelle had erased parts of Katrina's memory, she had been frequently visiting the Room of Requirement, unintentionally acting as a third wheel to the couple.
Katrina pouted as she watched the intimate pair, knowing that it wasn't really appropriate for her to be there, but somehow, she had still found herself coming over.
As for the glasses, after noticing that Albert was wearing a similar pair, she had returned them to Isabelle.
She wasn't an idiot, and she could tell what was going on.
It had to be said that having Katrina back to her normal, rational self made Albert feel much more comfortable. Their relationship had returned to the friendly one they had before, without the previous awkwardness.
"The truly effective item I'm working on is called a Detection Ball." Albert handed a crystal ball to Isabelle. "I got the idea from the Sneakoscope. If there are any dark creatures nearby, the Detection Ball will sound an alarm immediately."
Even with the Sneakoscope as a reference, Albert still couldn't create the Detection Ball in a short period of time. It wouldn't be considered a success until it appeared on the skill panel.
He was considering whether he should find someone to help him with the research.
"Does it work?"
"It's not very useful in places like the Forbidden Forest, which are already teeming with dark creatures. But in places like the school, where dark creatures are rarely found, it's very effective." Albert added, "The one in your hand is a prototype, and it needs to be tested in the Forbidden Forest."
Albert put the Detection Ball back into his pocket, planning to ask Hagrid for help with the testing once it was completed.
Isabelle took out her pocket watch and glanced at the time. "It's about time for me to go."
"Let's go together."
Albert stood up and stretched lazily. As he was about to leave the Room of Requirement, he suddenly felt an alarming amount of heat coming from the Detection Ball in his pocket, which startled him.
He had cast a Fire Spell on the Detection Ball because the Screeching Charm was too noisy.
"What's wrong?" Isabelle asked, puzzled, as Albert grabbed her hand.
"Something seems off."
"You mean the snake monster?"
"I don't know."
After sensing the warning from the Detection Ball, Albert immediately pulled Isabelle back into the Room of Requirement, knowing that it was definitely a safe place. Even if Voldemort knew of its location, he wouldn't be able to enter as long as there were people inside.
Although he didn't think the snake monster would appear on the eighth floor, Albert felt that he should still be cautious and figure out what was going on.
