Chapter 569: Diana
Chapter 569: Diana
In just one day, the O.W.L. exams made many students realize the daunting nature of their fifth year at Hogwarts.
The common rooms of the four houses remained lit throughout the night, with the lights only turning off the next day.
This day also marked the start of the final competition.
The breakfast table was bustling with excitement, and the owls delivering messages almost blocked out the ceiling.
Some students were already celebrating the upcoming break and looking forward to the evening's competition, except for the fifth-year students, who were just as nervous as the day before.
As Kyle hesitated between staying in the common room or going to the library, Professor McGonagall walked by the Hufflepuff table.
"Champions are to gather in the Great Hall after breakfast," she said.
"Is it starting already?" Susan Bones, sitting nearby, quickly asked, "But Professor, I thought the competition was in the evening? We still have exams in the morning."
"I know, Miss Bones," Professor McGonagall glanced at her, "This is a personal matter for the champions, unrelated to the competition."
"Oh, I'm sorry, Professor..." Susan nodded.
Professor McGonagall didn't say anything more and turned to leave.
After a while, when everyone had finished breakfast, Cona and Cedric went to the greenhouses for Herbology, while Kyle headed to the room where he had his wand tested, with Fengrong following along.
As they pushed open the door and entered, Viktor Krum was already there, speaking rapidly in Bulgarian with two people who appeared to be his parents, judging by their prominent hooked noses.
Fengrong's mother was also there, holding Gabryella and quickly walking towards them. Fengrong hurried to meet her.
By the fireplace, Diana stood quietly, gazing at Kyle with a smile.
"Your father is one of the judges, so it's not appropriate for him to be here," she explained softly.
"I understand," Kyle nodded.
Although Chris had given him a perfect score, it could still be a bit troublesome if the other champions or their parents found out about it. After all, one couldn't guarantee they wouldn't overthink the situation.
"Is it okay for you to be here at school?" Kyle asked in a low voice, "I mean, there are quite a few people around."
"Of course, it's fine," Diana smiled, "My work doesn't completely prevent me from interacting with others. It's just that when we have tasks requiring strict confidentiality, we try to minimize contact with others as much as possible."
"So, you don't have a mission now?"
"I do, but it's not that important... Besides, this is the final task of the Triwizard Tournament, and I always like to come and watch."
Diana smiled.
The two of them chatted by the fireplace for a while, and seeing that Diana was glancing at the portraits on the wall with a hint of nostalgia, Kyle suggested taking her on a tour of the castle.
Diana agreed.
They walked out of the classroom and headed towards the door leading to the Great Hall.
"It's been over a decade since I've been back," Diana looked at the portraits and statues on the walls, "It's exactly the same as when I was a student here, not a single change."
"Didn't you come here when I received the Order of Merlin, Second Class?" Kyle asked, remembering that he had seen Diana on that occasion.
"That situation was different, and I didn't have the time to leisurely explore the castle like I'm doing now."
Then, Kyle took her to the Hufflepuff common room.
Being exam time, there was not a soul in sight.
Diana looked at the barrel-like room and the sunlit common room with satisfaction, nodding approvingly.
"It's really nice.
"She said, 'When I was in Slytherin, all I could see from the window was the view of the Black Lake. It's a completely different scene here.'"
"We're also very close to the kitchen," Kyle said with a smile. "It's right next door, just a stone's throw away."
"I know..." Diana smiled, "Your father used to send me cookies and snacks. By the time I graduated, my dress was almost too tight."
Kyle's eyes lit up, eager to hear more details, but Diana didn't want to continue.
They then walked over to the warm grounds.
Kyle showed her the Beauxbatons carriage and Durmstrang's ship, but Diana wasn't interested.
Instead, she stopped at the Whomping Willow, which, according to Diana, was much smaller when she was a student.
"Hey, Kyle."
Hagrid's voice came from not too far away. "You're supposed to be taking the exam. Oh Merlin, is that you, Diana?"
"Hello, Hagrid..." Diana greeted him familiarly.
Kyle was a little surprised. "You know each other?"
"We've known each other for much longer than you," Hagrid said with a smile as he walked over. "Only Chris and Diana would come to visit me in the Forbidden Forest. I remember Chris really liked the rock cakes I made."

"Forgive me for being blunt, Hagrid," Diana smiled, "He only thought that way to save time for researching those magical creatures. After all, one rock cake was enough to keep him full for the whole day."
"I thought he liked the taste," Hagrid looked a little disappointed, but only for a moment.
It was all from over a decade ago, and now it's just a memory. Regardless of the reason, Chris did indeed "like" the rock cakes, and that's good enough.
At noon, Kyle suggested returning to the castle for lunch. He thought Diana would refuse, but to his surprise, she agreed.
When the two arrived at the castle's Great Hall, it was already filled with students.
Everyone looked at Diana with curious eyes, but there wasn't much surprise, as they had already met Fengrong and Krum's parents.
"She's so beautiful, isn't she?" Susan and Hannah whispered, "No wonder Kyle is so handsome..."
"Yes," Hannah nodded in agreement.
When it was time for lunch, Cona seemed even more nervous than the day before.
She wasn't reading any books but sat there solemnly, taking small bites of her food. However, several times, she poked her fork outside her plate.
Fortunately, this situation didn't last long.
About five minutes later, Diana stood up.
"I still need to find your father and discuss when to pick up Muriel and the others."
"Are we going now?" Kyle also stood up. "Then I'll come with you."
"No, it's not necessary." Diana shook her head, "You take your time eating. Don't worry about me."
Then, leaving behind a mysterious smile, she walked straight out of the Great Hall.
It was only then that Cona finally breathed a sigh of relief. She looked at the steak that was almost poked into minced meat, picked up the pumpkin juice from the table, and drank it all in one go.
Kyle poured her another cup.
"Why didn't you tell me earlier that your mother was coming?" Cona looked at him and stammered, "I mean, we should welcome her..."
"Actually, I only found out this morning," Kyle shrugged, "You were still taking the exam then."
He understood Cona's feelings very well.
To be honest, if Snape was sitting across from him, he probably wouldn't be able to eat a bite.
