Chapter 567: Secret Identity Revealed (Second Update)
Chapter 567: Secret Identity Revealed (Second Update)
"Nothing is impossible, Severus. You should know that the mysteries of magic are endless, and I have only learned a tiny fraction of them.
So, it’s not impossible that someone could be more powerful than me. This world is never short of geniuses."
Dumbledore lifted his head, seemingly unsurprised.
"But, it’s still hard to believe!"
Snape muttered.
This world is not short of geniuses; he himself was one. But Dumbledore was the most powerful kind of genius in this world.
"Headmaster, have you found out who this witch is after all your investigation?"
Snape knew that Dumbledore had been investigating the New York witch, even going to the American Ministry of Magic during the holidays.
"I have some ideas, but I can’t be entirely sure yet. I need to find a time to talk to him, but I can almost certainly say that he is the same person as the wizard who sealed Voldemort’s soul!"
Dumbledore smiled in response.
Snape was taken aback for a moment, then nodded in agreement.
Upon reflection, it did make sense. The wizard who had found and sealed all of Voldemort’s soul fragments had already seemed unbelievable, considering Voldemort and Dumbledore were on the same level.
Even Dumbledore couldn’t do anything about Voldemort, yet a completely unknown wizard had managed to seal all of Voldemort’s souls.
The idea of a wizard more powerful than Dumbledore was already terrifying; the probability of there being two such wizards was minuscule.
So, it was highly likely that these two wizards were one and the same.
"Headmaster, since you’ve more or less determined who this person is, can you tell me who it is?"
Snape was very curious about this powerful witch, wondering if he knew who it was.
He couldn’t think of any witch in the world who could surpass Dumbledore and completely seal Voldemort’s soul.
"Jerry Carmen!"
Dumbledore said with a smile.
Snape’s face showed a hint of confusion:
"What about Jerry? He’s in charms class right now; he shouldn’t be late at this time."
"I mean, the witch is Jerry Carmen, your most outstanding fourth-year Slytherin student!"
Dumbledore put down the sweater he was knitting and looked at Snape seriously, emphasizing his words.
Snape stared at Dumbledore, his eyes narrowing, before he slowly said:
"Headmaster, are you joking with me? It’s not April Fool’s Day, and this joke isn’t funny at all!"
Jerry Carmen, his most promising and favorite student, was a witch more powerful than Dumbledore, who had sealed Voldemort’s soul, taken over Azkaban, and freed the Death Eaters and Dementors.
This was simply absurd!
Jerry’s talent was indeed impressive, and his academic performance and spellcasting skills were excellent, but he had learned everything step by step. Snape still remembered the many times he had given Jerry extra lessons to help him with magic.
Now, Dumbledore was saying that Jerry was the mysterious Wizard J. How could he possibly believe it?
Dumbledore seemed to have anticipated Snape’s reaction:
"Stay calm, Severus. If you think about it carefully, you'll realize this isn't a joke.
We all know the powerful witches and wizards in the current magical world. It's impossible for an unknown witch or wizard to suddenly appear with that level of power.
So, it's highly likely that this wizard is relatively young, but has exceptional talent and learning ability, with unique ideas about magic.
Only in this way could he break free from traditional constraints and surpass us old folks.
Think about the young wizards you've known in recent years. A few of them have achieved this. If you consider it carefully, you'll understand why I think it's Jerry.
Also, you should know that it's not easy for non-Hogwarts teachers and students to enter the castle, especially the fourth floor."
Dumbledore's reasons for suspecting Jerry went beyond these points. There was also the handprint on the fourth floor and the various clues he had gathered over time.
Hearing Dumbledore's words, Snape finally calmed down and fell into deep thought.
Upon careful consideration, he realized that Dumbledore's reasoning seemed to be correct.
Jerry is indeed only in his fourth year, having studied magic for just three years, but his achievements over this period have been truly remarkable.
Last year, at the start of the school term, Jerry was already capable of easily defeating a dozen Dementors and a dozen Aurors. While it's possible the Aurors were caught off guard, the fact remains that Jerry's power at that time must have already surpassed that of an average Auror.
And that was after only two years of studying magic.
Now, after another full year, no one knows what his current level of power is.
Moreover, Jerry has published two magic books, both containing spells he created himself, indicating that his understanding of magical theory has reached a very high level.
While it's too early to say for certain, the signs Jerry has shown suggest that, in the eyes of most witches and wizards, his future could rival Dumbledore's, and even surpassing him is not out of the question.
So, if we have to analyze this rationally, Jerry is indeed the most likely candidate."
"If Jerry is really Wizard J, what do you plan to do, Headmaster?" Snape asked, his expression grave.
Dumbledore smiled.
"I don't plan to do anything. Even if he is, there's nothing inherently wrong with it. He sealed away Voldemort, resolving my greatest concern, and returned the Philosopher's Stone.
While some of his actions were a bit exaggerated, he's still young, and that's normal.
I called you here today just to give you a heads-up, so you're prepared.
Also, if everything goes as planned, I will soon announce my retirement!"
Dumbledore's decision to continue serving as Headmaster of Hogwarts at his advanced age wasn't due to a love of power. If he were power-hungry, he wouldn't have refused the position of Minister of Magic when it was offered to him.
He simply knew that the threat of Voldemort hadn't been eliminated and was concerned that Voldemort might return. Therefore, he wanted to help Harry, the Chosen One, grow strong enough to defeat Voldemort in the future.
However, with Voldemort now completely sealed away, Dumbledore can retire with peace of mind and spend his remaining years at Nurmengard in quiet seclusion.
Before that, though, he will definitely have a thorough conversation with Jerry to confirm everything and ensure all is in order.
