Chapter 567: Preparations for the Mission
Chapter 567: Preparations for the Mission
"Why won't Professor Dumbledore adopt our suggestions?" Hermione asked Liam straightforwardly as they made their way back to the dormitory. "I think what we said made sense."
"It does, but as the leader of the White Wizards, Headmaster Dumbledore can't act as recklessly as we can. He has a lot to consider. For example, if we arm everyone, a significant number of the Neutral Pureblood Wizards will likely join the Dark Lord. This would be detrimental to the war effort."
"Ultimately, it's because we're too weak", Hermione sighed, shaking her head. Her brown hair fluttered, brushing against Liam's nose, making it itch. "Professor Dumbledore can hold off the Dark Lord, but neither the members of the Order of the Phoenix nor the Aurors of the Ministry of Magic can match the insane Dark Wizards in battle. Not to mention, our Headmaster has too many things to protect and can't go around creating attacks and killings like the Dark Lord. In this situation, Headmaster can only compromise to protect as many people as possible."
"So, this is the significance of our secret mission. It looks like we'll have to keep it hidden and continue our work for a long time", Liam said. He had used this opportunity to probe Dumbledore and found that the Headmaster was aware of the current situation but was forced to continue with his old methods.
Given this, Liam realized that if he wanted to make a difference, he would have to rely on himself. Fortunately, he had a powerful Golden Finger that should help him achieve his goals.
In any case, after today's experiences, Liam reaffirmed that the only way to steer the situation in the direction he desired was to enhance his own strength. So, for the next few weeks, he devoted all his free time to mastering the Alchemy Rules.
Despite the busyness, his efforts paid off. On the morning of Hermione's Apparition exam, Liam completed all the preparations for the creation of the Rose Madonna. In the Multiverse General Store, four small spheres representing Earth, Water, Fire, and Wind slowly rotated within an Alchemical Array. Even those unfamiliar with Alchemy could sense the power contained within.
Of course, even though it seemed he was just one step away from creating the Rose Madonna, there was still a long way to go. This distance wasn't just in the creation process but also in his understanding of the Alchemy Rules. However, Teacher Luo Zhen was pleased with Liam's progress and warned him not to be impatient.
"So, when will be the right time for me to break through?" Liam asked curiously. At that moment, Hermione was in the Laboratory, going over her pre-exam routine, flipping through the Ministry of Magic's booklet: "Common Apparition Mistakes and How to Avoid Them." Liam took the opportunity to visit the World of the Rose Maidens and ask Teacher Luo Zhen directly.
"I'm not sure", Rogen replied, shaking his head in frustration. "Even though we chose to master similar rules, our individual differences mean our understanding of them can vary greatly. You can't just copy my experience. The only advice I can give is that when you truly master the rules, you'll know deep down when the time is right."
"Alright, looks like I'll have to wait", Liam said, running a hand through his hair. After chatting with Teacher Luo Zhen and Alice for a bit, he bid them farewell and returned to the Laboratory.
"How about it? Do you have any leads now?" Hermione asked without looking up when she heard Liam enter the Laboratory.
"I think I do", Liam replied with a confident tone.
"That's good", Hermione responded with a more cheerful tone. "In this war, at least one of us needs to reach the level of Professor Dumbledore or the Dark Lord. Only then can we protect the innocent and achieve our dreams. If we lack the strength, no one will be willing to listen to us."
"So, how's your understanding of the Death Law coming along?" Liam asked.
"It's a bit better than before, but I still have a long way to go before I can fully master it. So, the hope now rests on you", Hermione said, closing her book and looking at Liam seriously.
Hermione said this because, in the wizarding society, power still determines everything. So, Liam's current efforts to improve his strength are not only for the war to defeat the enemies but also to ensure he can change the entire Magic World as he wishes after the war.
Of course, considering this in the current environment is a bit premature. Liam quickly gathered his thoughts and left the Laboratory with Hermione to head to the Great Hall for lunch.
"——There should be few people in Potions this afternoon, as we all have exams... Harry. According to what I said, you should use this opportunity to try and soften Slughorn!" As soon as they sat down at the table, Liam heard Ron talking to Harry.
"I've thought of dozens of ways, but none of them can guarantee a hundred percent success. Unless we have enough luck to create countless coincidences—"
"Luck", Ron suddenly said, "Harry, right—luck!"
"What? What are you talking about?" Harry was confused, but Ron quickly reacted and turned to Liam, asking, "Do you still have that Felix Felicis?"
"Of course, I do", Liam nodded. "I only used a few drops when I was researching, and the rest I kept. I haven't had any real use for this potion recently."
"That's how it is", Hermione realized. "You mean using Liam's Felix Felicis to give Harry enough luck in a short time, so he can use this luck to ensure his plan goes smoothly and obtain Professor Slughorn's memory, right?"
"Exactly", Ron nodded, then looked a bit embarrassed. "Of course, I know Felix Felicis is very expensive, so—"
"I'll pay for the Felix Felicis", Harry interjected. "I won't let you suffer any loss."
"Given our relationship, there's no need to talk about losses", Liam waved it off. "You can take the Felix Felicis and use it when you need it. If there's anything else you need help with, just let me know. After all, this is our only chance to get Slughorn to talk, and I think we should do everything we can to make it perfect."
"If that's the case, I hope—", Harry began explaining his plan. After listening to him, Liam noticed there were still too many uncertain factors in the plan. It seemed they could only rely on the effects of Felix Felicis.
"Relax, Harry. Your plan has already committed all our resources, and I'm sure we can't do any better than this", Liam reassured him. "Now, we can only hope that Felix Felicis works as well as Professor Slughorn said it does."
