Chapter 566: Add More Cannons (×) Add High-Quality Materials (√)
When Lucius Kro said this, Kuro paused mid-step. "Vergo?"
Who was that again?
He vaguely remembered the name being mentioned before, but it had slipped his mind.
Kuro's memory wasn't perfect. After living here for so long, who the hell reviewed every detail of their past daily? There was no time or opportunity for that.
After spending over two decades in an unfamiliar place, anyone would forget some things.
It was like a twenty-something adult who couldn't possibly remember every classmate from elementary school.
Even after joining the Headquarters, where he interacted daily with Admirals, Four Emperors, and other high-ranking figures, some names and faces inevitably blurred.
"Code name 'Oni Take.' Vice Admiral Vergo, commander of the G-5 Branch Base. Officially, he's considered a solid asset to the Navy."
Lucius Kro continued, "But recently, we've uncovered some troubling information. We need you to investigate. The Navy can't spare anyone right now, and sending Garp or Sengoku would draw too much attention. After considering all options, you—being newly appointed—are the best fit."
"I see. I'll head out then."
Kuro bit down on his cigar. "I'll take my time with the investigation, Gramps. Don't rush me, or I won't piece together the truth."
"Fair enough", Lucius Kro chuckled. "Just remember to inform Headquarters about your custom Flagship design before you leave."
"Fine, you take it easy."
Kuro lifted his teacup, drained it in one gulp, then spat it out with a grimace. "Still can't stand this tea."
"Oh, you'll grow into it with age."
"Let me worry about that when I'm older. Oh, and Gramps—my cigars?"
"Already stocked. Check logistics. Help yourself."
"Got it. I'm out."
Kuro waved lazily and turned to leave.
As an Admiral candidate, he could request special supplies, but why settle for one ration when he could take two?
Stepping out of the office and through the main base gates, he found only Lida waiting.
"Where's everyone else?" Kuro scanned the area.
"Still reporting in. Hey, Kuro, let's go shopping!" Lida suggested.
"Not now. Get Klah and come with me to G-5. The others should stay at Headquarters on standby. Also, tell Wilbur I need a Vice Admiral Flagship."
"A Flagship?!" Lida brightened. "Can it be fully customizable? I want one with a permanently refilling ice cream cone at the bow!"
"Then recruit a Devil Fruit user who can make ice cream first!" Kuro shot her a glare. "Forget that. Wait until you're a Vice Admiral yourself to fuss over your own ship!"
Ice cream?
Such a ridiculous design would make him the laughingstock of the seas!
"Ugh..." Lida's face fell.
"Anyway, I just need a standard Flagship—nothing flashy. Make it blend in like a regular Warship. Just add a few extra cannons. Got it?" Kuro emphasized.
"Then where are you going?"
"To the logistics warehouse. Need to grab cigars and requisition some weapons for the treasury."
Waving her off, Kuro added, "Hurry up. I'll wait for you at the port."
"Okay..."
Lida shrugged and turned toward the office where the others were reporting.
It was the opposite direction from Kuro's warehouse.
As she walked, she pulled a pack of cookies from her shoulder bag and opened it.
"Hey, did you hear? There's a new dessert shop opening nearby!"
"Oh, I know! They're doing limited batches—freshly baked daily, only a few servings!"
"Let's check it out later!"
Lida's ears perked up at the conversation between two passing female Navy officers.
Desserts? Limited stock? Delicious?
Her eyes widened as drool dripped from her lips.
She dumped the entire cookie pack into her mouth, chewed hastily, then took off in a sprint.
"I'm getting some!"
Her feet pivoted toward the two women—
But she halted abruptly, her face twisting in conflict.
"Kuro gave me orders... If I'm slow, he'll wait. But if I'm too late, the shop might be sold out..."
"Lida?"
A voice interrupted her internal debate.
She turned to see Ju Geng approaching, with Sazil trailing behind.
"Ju Geng nee-san!" Lida beamed.
Sazil huffed, "What about me? No greeting?"
Ignoring him completely, Lida blurted, "Listen, Ju Geng! Kuro told everyone else to stay at Headquarters while we handle business. I need to find Wilbur—Kuro wants a Vice Admiral Flagship customized. Tell Wilbur the specs are..."
"HA!!!"
A group of trainees thundered past, bellowing in unison, drowning out her words.
"Anyway, I'm off!" Lida waved and chased after the two Navy women.
Ju Geng blinked, turning to Sazil. "What did she say?"
The trainees' roar had left her dazed. Her hearing wasn't perfect—she could catch words, but clarity was key.
Sazil sighed. "She said Kuro Vice Admiral needs a Flagship. Standard: ordinary, not attention-grabbing, same as regular Warships. Add extra cannons."
Ju Geng nodded thoughtfully and headed inside.
Sazil, meanwhile, bolted from the base like fleeing a plague. He needed to complete his temporary Navy housing arrangements Asap before any "familiar faces" dragged him into "special training."
Meanwhile, Wilbur had just finished his report when Ju Geng approached.
"Wilbur."
"Commander Ju Geng?" He halted. "What's the matter?"
"Vice Admiral Kuro has a task for you."
"Oho?!" Wilbur's eyes lit up. He clenched his fist, trembling with excitement. "Kuro sir has a mission for me?! Please, tell me the details! I, Blanchard Wilbur, will complete it flawlessly!"
Ju Geng tilted her head, puzzled. She hadn't caught his exact words, but his enthusiasm was clear.
She nodded. "Kuro Vice Admiral wants you to commission a Vice Admiral Flagship. Specifications: not ordinary, must stand out, unlike regular Warships. Use high-quality materials."
"Understood?" She hesitated, fearing she'd miscommunicated.
"Vice Admiral Flagship?!" Wilbur nearly shouted. "Kuro sir wants a custom Flagship? Of course! How could a man of his stature lack a flagship?!"
He spun on his heel, sprinting away. "Leave it to me! I'll use the finest materials! This ship will make the world gasp in awe!"
