Chapter 563: Chu Mo Island (Twenty-Nine)
Fei Chai Shu pulled out a cigarette, lit one, and exhaled smoke as he spoke, “Phew… I’ve got nothing but tobacco.”
Ji Bu shook his head, “None for me.”
Hong Hu replied, “I never buy unnecessary consumables.”
“Hmm… Good… Good…” Feng Bu Jue spread his hands and said, “I don’t have any either.”
“That’s perfectly normal,” Hong Hu added. “Food and water aren’t essentials. Most players wouldn’t bring them.” He paused for a few seconds. “Still, since the system provided this setting, there must be a solution.”
“That makes sense,” Fei Chai Shu nodded. “The fact that none of us has food or water is public data from the start. The system factored that into this scenario’s design. Yet, despite this, it still imposed the hunger and thirst settings… which means…”
“…It means we’re entering survival mode?” Ji Bu picked up the thread.
“I’ve been thinking about this for a while,” Feng Bu Jue said, pulling a branch from his pocket. “You thought I was collecting these Taunting Tree branches for fun? No, I was planning to cook something edible…” He sighed, tucking the branch away again. “Pity. Along the way, I haven’t seen a single bird.” He groaned, “If I’d known earlier, I’d have gathered some leeches. At least we could’ve tried… though I’m not sure if they’d kill us.”
“Could you stop mentioning such disgusting things?” Ji Bu snapped. “Even if they didn’t kill us, I wouldn’t touch leeches!”
“Hmph… Picky, picky,” Feng Bu Jue retorted. “Clearly, you’ve never gone hungry a day in your life.”
“Exactly! I’ve never starved, so what?” Ji Bu shot back, annoyed. “I was born under the Red Flag, raised in the spring breeze of prosperity! Three meals a day, a bath before bed!”
“Tsk… Shameless…” Feng Bu Jue scoffed.
“What? You’re calling me shameless when you’re the one acting weird?” Ji Bu exclaimed.
Feng Bu Jue’s gaze turned icy, scanning him up and down. “You’ve lived in a greenhouse your whole life. You’re ignorant. Did you know your body’s protein content is four times that of beef?”
“That’s insect protein, not human! You’re insulting me without even swearing!” Ji Bu yelled, then suddenly blanched. “Wait! What are you planning?!” He glared at Feng Bu Jue, suspicious. “You’re not seriously thinking of eating people?!”
“…That is one possible solution,” Feng Bu Jue replied flatly.
The words hung in the air. The other four team members instinctively stepped back, their faces tightening with tension.
If anyone else had said this, it would’ve been a joke. But from Feng Bu Jue? No one could be sure what he was thinking…
“I have a drug,” Feng Bu Jue continued. “It’s similar to the Immortal Bean. Not only does it clear all abnormal statuses, but it can also restore lost body parts—provided the injuries aren’t fatal and treated promptly…”
“Wait!” Ji Bu interrupted, reacting sharply. “Are you saying I should tear off chunks of my thighs or arms to eat, then take a pill to regenerate them?!”
“Would you mind?” Feng Bu Jue asked, calm as ever.
“Obviously I’d mind!” Ji Bu roared.
“Feng Bu Jue,” Fei Chai Shu interjected, “we’re not that desperate yet.”
Tian Ma Xing Kong chimed in, “Right, I can wait too!”
“You’re too polite,” Feng Bu Jue dismissed their protests, pulling a Cleaver from his satchel with casual indifference. “Endurance isn’t good for the stomach.”
“You’re taking this too far!” Ji Bu stood up. “We’re teammates—we can’t attack each other!”
“I know,” Feng Bu Jue said. “I didn’t say I’d eat you, specifically…”
The team froze, exchanging uneasy glances.
“…You’re planning to cut your own flesh?” Hong Hu ventured cautiously.
“Correct,” Feng Bu Jue affirmed. His unnerving composure sent their Terror Values soaring.
“That’s… not great,” Ji Bu muttered. “It’s human flesh, after all…”
“None of you have ever fantasized about this?” Feng Bu Jue’s eyes swept across them, his lips curling into an ominous smile. “This is a rare opportunity… Don’t you want to taste it?”
“Your eager expression already betrayed you,” Hong Hu deadpanned. “Don’t lump us in with your depravity.”
“I’m not interested,” Tian Ma Xing Kong added.
Fei Chai Shu nodded. “We appreciate the offer, but no thanks.”
“What a shame…” Feng Bu Jue sighed. “One vitality value supplement and one pill—such a flawless strategy to fill our stomachs…”
But clearly, no one else shared his disappointment.
Just then, a system prompt rang out: Main Quest Updated
“Tch… Right on schedule,” Hong Hu muttered. “Only ten minutes of rest time, as expected.”
“Predictable,” Feng Bu Jue said, opening his game menu. The new quest appeared: Within fifteen minutes, use the basin-shaped altar in the Priest Hall to summon and defeat the Wandering God Wokol.
“Heh… Guess we’ll fight the boss while starving,” Feng Bu Jue sheathed his Cleaver and strode toward the basin-shaped altar.
The other four followed swiftly, shaking off their unease. They knew the idle chatter was over.
“Though the quest says ‘use the basin-shaped altar,’ it doesn’t explain how,” Fei Chai Shu observed. “This must be part of the puzzle.”
“Could the method relate to those wall carvings?” Ji Bu glanced around.
“That’d be a problem,” Tian Ma Xing Kong said. “There are thousands of patterns—I can’t read any of them.”
“Don’t worry,” Hong Hu added, “we can’t read them either.”
“They’re fragments from other multiverses,” Feng Bu Jue said, face pressed against the altar’s engravings as he sniffed the stone. “Earlier, I casually mentioned this to Imitation Soul, and it explained a bit.” He motioned behind him. “As for the totem pillars, they depict lesser gods from our universe—including, but not limited to, our five deities of faith.”
“Wait, you understood this?” Ji Bu blinked.
“Not really,” Feng Bu Jue replied, still inspecting the altar. “But you could check the Wokol totem—maybe there’s a clue to summoning him.”
“The totems are symbolic,” Feng Bu Jue added. “Still, check them if you want. You might get lucky.” He waved them off. “I’ll handle the altar. No mistakes—promise.”
“I believe you,” Hong Hu said. “You look like you’re about to start licking the stone… Wait, forget I said that.”
“This thorough five-sense inspection is creepy,” Ji Bu muttered. “Unreadable…”
The four exchanged glances and tactfully retreated from the altar, leaving Feng Bu Jue to his… unique methods.
After a quick discussion, they split up to search the Priest Hall normally.
Five minutes passed in a flash—then, suddenly…
