After his trip to the Men in Black worlds, Liam brought back a variety of items, most of which were intended for research in other timelines. However, he also brought back a batch of products primarily for his own use, such as the Memory Eraser and the accompanying Mirror of Erised, a Mini Spaceship, and a large box of various weapons.
The weapons were the focus of their tests this time. After dealing with some matters in the worlds, Liam and Hermione began testing the effectiveness of these sci-fi energy weapons against Wizard Magic defenses the next day.
The tests took place in a clearing, with several Robot Dummies placed in the center. Liam and Hermione first cast various defensive spells on the dummies, then began shooting at these targets with their weapons.
During the experiment, they discovered that all weapons using physical ammunition performed very poorly against the Armor Charm, a common defensive spell used by Wizards. Even a Hogwarts graduate with average magical skills could block almost all physical ammunition, including the most powerful Gauss Rifle.
"This was expected", Liam said, turning to Hermione. "Ever since Wizards discovered this magic, they have continuously improved its defense against kinetic damage, from medieval swords to modern firearms."
"That means non-magical people find it extremely difficult to harm Wizards who abuse their powers, like Death Eaters", Hermione's expression grew serious. "This is why all Wizards consider Muggles to be weaker."
"Individually, that's true. Wizards with magical power are indeed much stronger than ordinary people", Liam nodded slightly. "But humans, as intelligent beings, have never been at the top of the food chain because of individual strength."
With that, he picked up the Atom-4 Pistol and began shooting at the targets. Liam clearly noticed that the defensive magic was rapidly consumed when the energy ammunition hit the targets.
"Indeed, Magic is not very effective against energy attacks", Liam said after using the Triple-Barreled Plasma Cannon to blast away one of the targets. "This might be because Magic is a form of energy utilization, so it can only defend by consuming energy directly."
"It's not just that", Hermione said, using her Atom-4 Pistol to repeatedly shoot and break through the defensive magic on one of the targets. "To be precise, Magic can more efficiently utilize energy. For example, the Armor Charm spell. In the books I read in the Library, the earliest form of this spell was long and crude, only capable of blocking attacks like sword slashes or arrow shots, and even javelins."
"You mean this spell was originally designed to defend against attacks from ordinary people?" Liam asked, surprised. He hadn't read such books before, so he hadn't noticed this detail.
"Yes", Hermione said, her eyebrows raised in excitement. She rarely had the chance to teach Liam, so she was naturally happy to explain. "You need to understand that in the early history of Magic worlds, Wizards lived alongside ordinary people. The conflicts and battles at that time were primarily between Wizards and Muggles. In this context, the Armor Charm, which could defend against attacks from ordinary people, naturally became one of the commonly used spells among Wizards."
"However, as conflicts between Muggles and Wizards grew, they eventually escalated into wars. Due to population issues, Wizards, at least in the West, chose to isolate and hide themselves. They also signed the International Statute of Secrecy to confirm this arrangement." Hermione took a sip of water that Liam handed her.
"Then there are the conflicts between Wizards and the conflicts between Wizards and other Magic Beings, right?" Liam asked after Hermione finished her water, putting away the cup.
"Yes, that's the main focus in the History of Magic. In those wars, Wizards established their dominant position in the Magicworlds. Those wars were indeed brutal, but they also greatly advanced the development of Magic. The Armor Charm is a perfect example. A spell that could only resist physical attacks wasn't very effective against other creatures, so Wizards invented more defensive magic."
"However, too much defensive magic caused significant confusion. Ordinary Wizards found it difficult to accurately identify an attack and choose the appropriate defensive magic when under attack. So, after extensive research by many Magic Users, the modern Armor Charm, which can defend against both magical and physical attacks, was invented."
"That's why the Armor Charm is less effective against these energy weapons", Liam continued. "Wizards' Magic isn't static; it changes over time and with different situations. They've never seen these energy weapons, so they can't improve their Magic to counter them."
This conclusion was reached through experimentation. Liam discovered that the Armor Charm cleverly allocates magic power to defend against both magical and physical attacks. In this way, users can achieve near-perfect defense with a relatively small amount of magic power. However, the intricate structure of this magic power, refined through extensive research, made it difficult for Liam to improve the spell at his current level.
Still, to prepare for future improvements, Liam and Hermione spent three days blowing up nearly a hundred targets to gather sufficient data.
Additionally, Liam fed Little Qing the Blood Amber he had created through Alchemy, which sealed Selena's prototype.
After transforming into a snake, Little Qing swallowed the amber and soon used its Soul Link to tell Liam that it needed a vast space for it to evolve. The thing it had just eaten was prompting its evolution.
Evolution? This news shocked Liam. As a pet he had raised, Liam had no idea how a creature like Little Qing, unique even in the worlds, could grow and evolve.
Because of this, Liam was very pleased to learn that Little Qing would evolve. With a brutal war currently raging, having a new and powerful ally was excellent news for Liam.
So, he immediately took Little Qing to the edge of the Glowing Sea, which had been cleared of radiation. Since Little Qing had said the radiation would not harm it, this remote area would prevent it from accidentally harming anyone during its evolution.
Upon reaching the designated spot, Liam placed Little Qing on the ground. Once it touched the ground, Little Qing transformed from a snake into a large mass of entangled Vines, which then rapidly spread out. After 15 minutes, when the Vines stopped expanding, Liam was amazed to find himself standing on a green field four times the size of a Quidditch pitch.
"My Master, let's meet again in six months." With those final words, Little Qing entered a state of hibernation. Liam set up several defensive spells around the area and instructed his subordinates to guard it and prevent anyone from entering. He then left, silently praying for Little Qing's safety.
After everything was settled, Liam and Hermione bid farewell to the scientists, who were now busy with the large amount of materials they had received, and returned to the Multiverse Emporium.
"This time, we've figured out part of the dimensional runes. I think we should start our research immediately. We'll make progress soon", Hermione said. She didn't want to delay this crucial task any longer.
"Alright", Liam nodded, somewhat reluctantly. Facing Hermione's serious and diligent attitude, Liam felt he sometimes needed to be more proactive.
