Chapter 56: A Quirky Duel
Chapter 56: A Quirky Duel
"Alright, I get it, but why are you following us?"
Watching Jenny enter the same clothing store as them, Rod couldn't help but want to reach for his Burst Magic Crystal again.
_Creepy stalker, a little explosion wouldn't be a problem, right?_
But there was a big problem, and Mira quickly pressed down on Rod's backpack to prevent him from acting on his impulse.
"Jenny, are you here to buy clothes too?"
Jenny was completely unapologetic. "No, I came here specifically to find you."
Mira asked, "Is there something else you need?"
"Of course, it's to settle this once and for all!" Jenny declared. "Even if we can't compete at the anniversary celebration, I'll defeat you in private!"
Rod glanced around, noticing that quite a few people were starting to pay attention. This wasn't exactly a private setting.
"Since you're this determined, I can't keep refusing," Mira said, a spark of battle spirit igniting in her eyes. "What do you want to compete in?"
"Let's choose and match outfits in this store, and find a fair judge to determine the winner," Jenny said, pointing at Rod with confidence. "To make you accept the result, he will be the judge!"
"Me?" Rod was taken aback.
Though he didn't understand why they suddenly wanted to compete, he quickly grabbed Mira's wrist and raised it.
"Winner, Mira Jen! That's it, the loser, you're out."
Jenny erupted in anger. "We haven't even started yet!"
Mira chuckled to herself.
Jenny took a deep breath to calm down. "Even though you're the judge, the result won't be based on what you say alone... do you understand, Mira Jen?"
"Tricky, but I accept. I'm looking forward to seeing the look on your face when you lose," Mira said, her eyes locking with Jenny's, a spark of electricity seeming to dance between them.
Jenny flicked her hair. "Then, Mr. Judge, please choose the theme."
"Theme..." Rod was still confused about the unspoken agreement between them, but he pointed to a sign nearby. "Leisure section, how about that?"
"Leisure? A very ordinary choice, but the more ordinary it is, the more challenging it becomes." Jenny smiled confidently and walked toward the leisure section. "Let's see what you've got!"
"Since we've decided to compete, I won't lose." Mira also enthusiastically went to pick out her clothes.
These two seemed to have found some fun in this, but Rod wasn't as happy.
He was enjoying a simple, pleasant day out with Mira, and now a troublemaker had appeared.
This competition involved choosing and changing clothes, and who knew how long it would take.
Though Jenny was pretty, what good was a pretty third wheel?
Just as he was preparing for a long wait, the two beauties surprised him.
"Transform!"
"Transform!"
With a light shout, Mira and Jenny both transformed into the outfits they had chosen, even changing their hairstyles to match the clothes perfectly.
"Do you always change clothes using transformation magic? What's the point of changing clothes magic then?"
"Changing clothes magic actually puts on the corresponding clothes, while transformation only changes the appearance," Mira explained. "In summer, you won't feel hot if you transform into a winter coat, and in winter, you won't feel cold if you transform into a swimsuit."
Jenny added, "Don't be so surprised. Professional models use transformation magic to increase efficiency when changing clothes."
They could even add beauty effects while transforming.
"Alright, let's skip the boring stuff. Please evaluate our outfits fairly," Jenny said. "Try to be as objective as possible."
Rod looked at Mira.
Mira smiled. "Just speak your mind. We have a way to decide the winner."
_They must have some lie-detecting magic or something. Maybe they can hear thoughts?_ Rod thought of Willian, or perhaps a spell that could read minds?
Seeing no point in lying, Rod looked at Jenny and said honestly, "Miss Jenny, you look... very beautiful."
Jenny shot Mirajane a smug smile.
Rod then took a closer look at Mirajane, "The white tank top really shows off your figure, and the light blue shirt over it looks simple and clean. The light blue denim shorts accentuate your long legs without clashing with the top. The black belt sits perfectly, highlighting your slender waist, and the black clutch is a great match. Add the baseball cap and the long ponytail, and the youthful vibe is almost overflowing. Perfect score!"
Mirajane touched her cheek with her right hand, "Oh, you're being so straightforward, I'm a bit embarrassed."
"You...!"
Jenny's teeth ground together. She had been dismissed with a simple "very beautiful," while Mirajane got a whole paragraph of compliments. The difference in treatment was infuriating!
Mirajane gave a mischievous smile, "So, Jenny, how about it?"
Jenny, not backing down, said, "Again!"
Rod watched in confusion as the two women returned to the casual clothing section.
It was clear that Mirajane had won this round, but what was the criteria?
Was it the number of words in the compliments? It couldn't be that simple.
A few minutes later, they chose their outfits and came back to transform again.
Rod, determined to be honest, gave Jenny a "very beautiful" once more.
Then he carefully examined Mirajane, praising her from head to toe.
When Mirajane chose a dress and twirled in front of Rod, he gave her a perfect score with an extra ten points.
The continuous transformation contest attracted a crowd of onlookers.
While it disrupted the store's operations to some extent, the manager was nearly laughing himself silly. Two supermodels were freely modeling various outfits in his store, which was like a dream come true.
He was already thinking about how to handle the influx of customers and provide top-notch service.
The onlookers, intrigued by the spectacle, tried to score the women based on their own perspectives.
From the conversations, it seemed that Jenny and Mirajane had about the same number of supporters.
However, each time Rod gave his sincere evaluation, a significant portion of the crowd would be swayed by his opinion and switch sides.
— That guy is really sincere, and his comments make a lot of sense.
After the final round, Jenny ended her transformation magic and returned to her original appearance, "Damn it, I picked the wrong judge!"
The outcome of the contest had nothing to do with what Rod said or how much he said.
The only criterion was the amount of "awe" in his eyes.
This was a difficult standard to judge, but Jenny could tell. As someone who was often the center of attention, she had a sharp eye for different gazes.
Jenny had initially thought that Rod and Mirajane, being from the same guild, must be very familiar with each other.
This would make it hard for Mirajane to impress Rod with her transformations.
After all, men get bored easily.
And with her beauty and figure matching Mirajane's, and her unfamiliarity with Rod, she had a significant advantage. It should have been an easy win.
But...
Jenny suddenly realized she had overlooked a crucial factor that could sway the contest. If she had known, she would have picked a random passerby as the judge for a fairer contest. Now, she regretted her decision.
