Chapter 559: Arrival at Ilvermorny School
Chapter 559: Arrival at Ilvermorny School
All morning, no one could focus on their classes.
In Herbology, Anthony Goldstein nearly burst a Bubble Pod.
During History of Magic, no one paid attention to Professor Binns' hypnotic lecture, and of course, no one slept. The entire classroom was filled with flying notes.
Ancient Runes, as always, was exceptionally challenging. It seemed the professor hadn't received the Tournament notification, and inattentive students were punished with double the usual essay length.
Wade went to Divination, and this class turned into a complete disaster.
Midway through the lesson, as Professor Trelawney was having everyone look into their crystal balls for divination, she suddenly burst into tears without any warning.
She clutched her shawl tightly, burying her face in it, and let out sharp sobs. Her frail body shook violently.
"Professor, are you alright?" Lavender Brown from Gryffindor asked cautiously.
Professor Trelawney cried for a while before wiping her nose and speaking in a hoarse, mournful voice: "I saw it... I saw the fate of a sinner..."
She rolled her eyes dramatically and spoke in an unnatural, trembling voice: "Ludo Bagman... his wealth will dissipate like quicksand... his lies will be cruelly avenged... everything he values will turn to nothing!"
Wade, hearing the venom in her voice, knew this wasn't a true prophecy, but the students in the classroom were clearly terrified by her appearance. Even the most skeptical students were frozen in place.
"Ludo Bagman..." Harry swallowed and turned to Ron. "I remember he was... the host of the World Cup?"
Ron nodded solemnly. "He's also my dad's colleague."
"Pro... Professor?" Padma's sister, Parvati, asked reverently in a small voice. "Is this a prophecy?"
"Yes... yes..." Trelawney wiped her tears with a handkerchief and sniffled. "It's... so tragic... he will die such a terrible death..."
The classroom erupted in whispers.
"But I remember seeing him in the newspaper this morning", someone said uneasily. "If Ludo Bagman were to die a terrible death, there would be reports, right?"
"Idiot, this is a prophecy!" another student said firmly. "Professor Trelawney saw the future with her inner eye!"
Professor Trelawney seemed to be in great pain, crying so hard she couldn't speak. She was lost in her own emotions, and the rest of the class couldn't continue.
When the sensitive and neurotic professor finally calmed down, the bell rang, and Trelawney, her voice hoarse, dismissed the class.
"I never knew Professor Trelawney was so close to Mr. Bagman", a student said as they left the classroom. "She's grieving as if her lover is about to die."
"You don't understand! It's because Professor is so kind!" Lavender, defending her favorite professor, said loudly. "Even if it were someone else, Professor Trelawney would grieve for their death!"
—Is that so?
Wade turned around and saw Professor Trelawney wiping her tears and muttering to herself. From her lips, it was clear she was saying: "Liar... he will die a miserable death..."
Wade: "..."
Poor Professor Trelawney... Did she lose her bet on the World Cup, getting tricked by Bagman's goblin gold?
He shook his head, feeling both sympathy and amusement. As he was about to leave, his eyes fell on the large crystal ball beside him, and he paused.
Wade remembered the prophecy he had made up on the spot during the final exam last semester.
—Wait... Is this partly my fault?
But then he thought, his "prophecy" wasn't wrong, and he hadn't encouraged Professor Trelawney to bet on the match.
So, the first person to blame was the fraudulent Bagman, followed by the greedy Professor Trelawney. What did it have to do with the innocent student, Wade Gray?
Wade pushed aside the vague, undefined feeling in his heart and left the classroom.
...
As evening fell, the bell rang, and students donned their cloaks, rushing out of the castle. The Heads of Houses and Prefects organized the students into lines and made last-minute adjustments to their appearances.
Professor Flitwick stood on the high steps, scanning his students.
"Mr. White, your hair looks like you've just been in a fight—why not comb it?"
"I know you're diligent, Miss Jones, but this isn't the time to read. Let me take it back to where it belongs."
With a flick of his wand, Professor Flitwick sent the book flying back to the Ravenclaw common room, to the dismay of the girl.
"Pay attention to your appearance, children, and be polite. Of course—" Professor Flitwick said cheerfully, "no need to be overly humble. Hogwarts is the best."
The students chuckled, proud and happy. But then Professor Flitwick caught Professor Mcgonagall's stern gaze and immediately became serious.
By the time the students were lined up in front of the castle, night had fallen, the moon hung high, and the air grew cold.
"Time is almost up", Michael muttered. "Who do you think will arrive first?"
As soon as he spoke, a red three-story bus suddenly materialized out of the air, racing across the calm surface of the Black Lake, leaving a massive wake.
With a swift skid and a screech of brakes, the bus stopped in front of the castle gates, the neon sign on its front flashing "Ilvermorny Express."
The door opened, and a lean, middle-aged wizard stepped down calmly. He wore a deep red robe and had a sharp gaze.
But in an instant, his face broke into a warm smile: "It's been a long time, dear Albus! How have you been?"
"Seeing you is a delight, Professor Aigburth", Dumbledore hugged him and said. "Welcome to Hogwarts."
As he spoke, a group of students also descended from the bus, wearing red and blue uniforms. They looked pale, and some even retched, as if the bus ride had been quite a trial.
"Looks like we're the first", Professor Aigburth looked around and said happily. "Great, I knew our bus was fast."
"Indeed", Dumbledore nodded, and Harry gave the students a sympathetic glance.
Wade observed the students, his gaze lingering on one of the boys for a moment before he looked up at the sky.
A massive carriage was rapidly approaching over the Forbidden Forest, heading toward Hogwarts Castle. Twelve silver-maned horses spread their wings, gleaming in the moonlight.
