Chapter 558: Reminders from Ming Yu, An Exchange of Knowledge
Chapter 558: Reminders from Ming Yu, An Exchange of Knowledge
Yu Ting!
Another formidable power outside of the Unchanging Temple!
Xu Yan glanced at Ming Yu, then at the Qingling Yuzhu in her hand, and asked curiously, "Was Yu Ting also involved in that battle back then? Why is the Qingling Yuzhu with Yu Ting?"
Ming Yu's expression turned solemn. "That's also something I'm puzzled about. I don't know how Qingyu fell, and why her remains would be in Yu Ting's possession."
He paused for a moment before continuing, "If Qingyu had died at the hands of the Unchanging Temple, her remains wouldn't show such vitality. Perhaps a powerful figure from Yu Ting secretly intervened and took away Qingyu's remains."
Xu Yan thought for a moment and asked, "Is there a possibility that she's still alive?"
Ming Yu was taken aback for a moment before replying, "I haven't sensed her presence, but since she's in Yu Ting, perhaps she's found a way to avoid my perception. I hope she truly is alive."
Xu Yan looked at Ming Yu and smiled. "I'll most likely be entering Yu Ting this time, and I might be able to find out if she's truly alive. I'm curious. If given the chance, would you betray the Unchanging Temple?"
Ming Yu remained silent for a long while before answering, "I don't know. Since I've joined the Unchanging Temple, can I even turn back? At the very least, I won't participate in any actions against the Great Wilderness. The next epoch is about to begin, and that will be an opportunity."
"If it's possible..." Ming Yu left the sentence hanging.
Xu Yan understood. Ming Yu was one of the Seven Heaven Lords, and even though they might quarrel and have some conflicts, they had traveled the Unchanging Lands together, gained the purple light opportunity, and opened up the heavens and earth. The bond between them must be deep.
Initially, the vigorous development of the Seven Heavens would have made them an extremely powerful force in the Unchanging Lands and perhaps even the center of the Unchanging Lands.
All of this had been destroyed by the Unchanging Temple.
It was impossible for them not to feel resentment and bitterness.
However, reality was cruel, and the once-proud Ming Yu had bowed his head. Would he be able to rise again?
If he could seize the opportunity when the next epoch opened and his strength surged beyond that of the Unchanging God Lord, Ming Yu would naturally not be content to remain subservient.
But all of this was unknown.
Moreover, Ming Yu was well aware of the Unchanging Temple's strength, and it would be difficult to attain the power needed to betray them.
The strong ones in the Unchanging Temple would surely be on guard against him.
"I hope we never become enemies, or you will die by my hands." Xu Yan said with a smile.
Ming Yu was taken aback for a moment before he burst into silent laughter. He didn't find Xu Yan's words arrogant or boastful. This young man, not yet a hundred years old, already possessed such formidable power.
Surpassing him was not out of the question.
"I, Ming Yu, will not participate in any actions against the Great Wilderness, so naturally, I won't be your enemy," he said.
Back then, when he devoured the Mingyu Heaven, he was merely reclaiming what was rightfully his.
"I killed Xue Kuang," Xu Yan said with a brilliant smile.
Ming Yu was slightly startled and shook his head. "If he's dead, then so be it. Although Xue Kuang followed me, he wasn't one of my closest followers. Let's not talk about him."
However, Ming Yu paused for a moment before continuing in a low voice, "If you encounter Ming and Yu, I hope you can show them a little mercy. Of course, I'll also tell them not to act against you. But because I'm currently on a mission, I might not have the chance to instruct them before they encounter you."
Xu Yan's smile remained radiant as he said, "I never show mercy to my enemies. However, since you've spoken, Ming Yu, I'll give you this face. Let's see how much your face is worth."
Ming Blood Master and Yu Blood Master, named after Ming Yu, were clearly his trusted confidants.
Ming Yu smiled and waved his hand, sending a scroll flying towards Xu Yan. "This is a map I've made over the years as I followed the Unchanging Temple through the Unchanging Lands. There are a few special places marked on it that might interest you. I've also included some of my insights."
Xu Yan reached out and the scroll landed in his hand. "Consider it done. I'll show them mercy."
If he wanted Xu Yan to show mercy, then Ming Yu would naturally have to offer something in return.
"Farewell!" Xu Yan waved his hand and prepared to continue escorting Ming Yu back to Yu Ting.
"I don't know what makes the Great Wilderness so confident in facing the Unchanging Temple," Ming Yu said, "but I must warn you that the Unchanging God Lord has survived for at least four epochs, and his strength is unpredictable.
"Furthermore, it's hard to say how many Heaven Lords the Unchanging Temple has, or how many ancient beings are still following the Unchanging God Lord.
"If the Great Wilderness can truly withstand the Unchanging Temple, and if Yu Ting has its own ambitions, they will join forces. The next epoch is about to begin, and both the Temple and Yu Ting are likely to have their plans in motion.
"Wu Mo is still alive. If you can find him, he will be a powerful ally. However, the Unchanging Temple already has strong beings pursuing him."
"The Underworld suddenly spoke up with a reminder.
"The Witch Demon is still alive?"
Xu Yan's face was filled with surprise.
"Yes, but the extent of his recovery from his severe injuries is unknown," replied Ming Yu.
Nodding, Xu Yan asked, "So the Unchanging God Lord didn't make a move against him even though someone as powerful as Tai Cang died? And Wu Mo managed to escape the battlefield?"
"That surprised me as well," Ming Yu said with a nod. "Wu Mo doesn't have a brother in the Unchanging Temple to plead for his life like you do. He shouldn't have been able to escape the Unchanging God Lord."
"Tai Cang sent him away from the battlefield as he was falling," Ming Yu added, sounding just as puzzled.
"For Tai Cang to be able to send someone away in his final moments, the gap between his power and that of the Unchanging God Lord can't have been that large," Xu Yan mused.
"Tai Cang was just half a step away from becoming a Heaven Lord," Ming Yu explained. "Perhaps, in that last moment, he gave it his all and took that final step, allowing him to do so."
"The Unchanging God Lord is strong, but I only respected Tai Cang," Ming Yu continued, a hint of sadness in his voice. "If only time had been on our side; the outcome might have been different." With a sigh, he turned and vanished into thin air.
"Tai Cang truly was exceptional," Xu Yan murmured to himself, recalling how even his master had praised Tai Cang's talent.
As for the Witch Demon, his whereabouts were unknown, and Xu Yan had no intention of seeking him out. The Unchanging Lands were vast, and finding him would be like searching for a needle in a haystack.
"Yu Ting, how intriguing!" Xu Yan exclaimed, his attention turning to Ming Yu. He noticed that the silver-white light in her eyes was slowing down, indicating that she was beginning to recover.
He took out a flying boat, placed Ming Yu on it, and then studied the map that Ming Yu had given him while the boat continued in the direction she had been heading.
After examining the map, Xu Yan put it away, his attention returning to Ming Yu. Her eyes had returned to normal, but her pupils were still blank, indicating that she was still in a state of shutdown.
"The people of Yu Ting are indeed peculiar," Xu Yan mused aloud. "I wonder if my guess is correct."
"Spirit soul?" Ming Yu blinked, tilting her head slightly as if trying to recall something. "That sounds familiar."
"The spirit soul is where consciousness resides," Xu Yan explained. "If the spirit soul perishes, the body becomes an empty shell."
"If the body becomes an empty shell..." Ming Yu repeated slowly, her expression dull and her black pupils beginning to turn white as her thoughts seemed to stall once more.
Then, as if she had suddenly thought of something, she asked, "What happens to the spirit soul if the shell is gone?"
Xu Yan's face lit up with a brilliant smile. "Miss Ming Yu, knowledge is precious. Although we are friends, the knowledge involved here is too profound to simply give away."
Ming Yu blinked, processing Xu Yan's words. Her slow and confused expression made Xu Yan's mouth twitch, but she seemed to have grasped the key point of his statement.
"Prostitution? I'm not selling my body!" Ming Yu declared, shaking her head resolutely.
Xu Yan was left speechless. Her ability to understand was truly something else; after all that explanation, this was the conclusion she had come to?
"Miss Ming Yu," Xu Yan said, trying to clarify, "what I meant was that knowledge is valuable, especially when it comes to the spirit soul. It can't be gained without effort or payment; I'm not asking you to sell your body."
Ming Yu tilted her head, considering his words for a moment. "Then how can I gain your knowledge?"
"It's simple," Xu Yan said with a bright smile. "We exchange knowledge; that's only fair."
"How do we exchange?" Ming Yu asked.
"Just like exchanging array formations for laws," Xu Yan replied. "However, the knowledge we're exchanging this time is quite broad. Before we begin, I want to know where you're from. Are you from the place I think you are?"
"I'm from Yu Ting," Ming Yu replied, blinking innocently.
"So you are indeed from Yu Ting," Xu Yan said, a smile playing on his lips. "I've heard of Yu Ting, but I don't know much about it. How about we exchange that knowledge? Are you willing?"
This was Xu Yan's true intention.
Ming Yu considered his proposal for a while before nodding. "Alright, I'll introduce you to Yu Ting, and in exchange, you'll tell me what happens to a spirit soul when its shell is gone."
"Deal!" Xu Yan agreed.
"Miss Ming Yu," he continued, "let me explain first, and then you can introduce me to Yu Ting afterward.
Ming Yu nodded vigorously, her eyes sparkling with anticipation.
"When creatures are weak and fragile, they do possess a soul, but it is extremely frail and vague. Only by cultivating to a certain realm can one refine and condense their soul, transforming it from ethereal to tangible..."
Xu Yan chose not to directly answer Ming Yu's question about the fate of a soul that had lost its physical shell. Instead, he started from the basics, explaining the concept of souls to Ming Yu, all while verifying a certain suspicion he had.
"Different martial arts paths lead to different soul condensations. Typically, when a soul is condensed, one must open up their soul sea of consciousness. There are also martial arts that open up the spirit platform... The soul sea of consciousness resides within the mind."
Xu Yan pointed to his head as he explained.
Then, he noticed Ming Yu's eyes blinking as her pitch-black pupils faded away, replaced by a jade-like white, and silver light began swirling in her eyes.
"Indeed, Ming Yu doesn't seem to have any concept of souls, but she vaguely senses something. Whenever the topic of souls is brought up, she seems to struggle to keep up or, rather, the concept of souls is too profound for her to grasp..."
Xu Yan observed Ming Yu, and his suspicion was further confirmed as he witnessed her mental shutdown once again.
This time, Ming Yu's shutdown was shorter than the previous one, and when she recovered, she tilted her head slightly, blinking as she seemed to be pondering what Xu Yan had said.
It seemed like she had forgotten some parts and hadn't retained all the information.
"Miss Ming Yu, it's your turn now. Please introduce me to Yu Ting."
Xu Yan smiled as he prompted her.
"But I don't remember much of what you said," Ming Yu replied, looking a bit glum.
"Profound knowledge isn't something one can grasp in just one or two tries. It's normal to forget, so just go over it a few more times. The more profound the knowledge, the greater its value, and naturally, the more effort is required to understand it. Since we've agreed on this knowledge exchange, we can't back out just because something is hard to remember."
Xu Yan spoke with a serious expression.
However, inwardly, he was delighted. It would be excellent if she forgot, as Ming Yu would then offer more in exchange to ask additional questions, allowing him to gather more information about Yu Ting.
"That makes sense!"
Ming Yu nodded.
"What do you want to know about Yu Ting?"
Xu Yan pondered briefly before asking, "I've heard of Yu Ting, but I know very little about it. Miss Ming Yu, where is Yu Ting located? And what is your standing there?"
Ming Yu tilted her head slightly as she thought, "Yu Ting doesn't have a fixed location. It's always wandering, but it usually moves in a specific direction for a period before changing course.
"I'm not very strong in Yu Ting. If I were, I wouldn't need your escort."
Xu Yan immediately understood that, like the Unchanging Temple, Yu Ting didn't have a fixed location and was constantly wandering in the Unchanging Lands.
Ming Yu, with her Realm Lord-level strength, wasn't considered powerful in Yu Ting, implying that Realm Lord-level experts were commonplace there. This further emphasized the immense strength of Yu Ting.
"My turn, my turn!"
Ming Yu happily spoke up after finishing her explanation.
Xu Yan couldn't help but smile at her enthusiasm.
"Do you want me to repeat what I said earlier?"
Ming Yu nodded, tilting her head slightly.
"Mm-hmm!"
Any slight tilt of her head indicated that Ming Yu was deep in thought. Xu Yan had already figured out some of her mannerisms.
When her pitch-black pupils disappeared, replaced by the jade-like white, it meant that Ming Yu was either about to enter a battle state or was deeply pondering something.
If silver light swirled in her eyes, it signaled that her thoughts had stalled.
Xu Yan repeated his previous explanation about souls, and when he finished, Ming Yu's black pupils vanished again, replaced by swirling silver light, but this time, it didn't last as long.
"Your turn!"
Ming Yu, having recovered, looked a bit glum as she fiddled with her hair, appearing dispirited.
"Miss Ming Yu, what's wrong?"
Xu Yan asked, curious, as it was the first time he saw her in such a state.
"I feel so stupid," Ming Yu pouted.
Xu Yan's lips twitched. It wasn't a matter of stupidity anymore.
Smiling gently, he consoled her, "Profound knowledge is always difficult to comprehend. It's normal to not understand or remember something after hearing it just once, twice, or even several times."
