Chapter 558: Botanical Garden
Chapter 558: Botanical Garden
In addition to his daily morning exercises and studies, Lindsey had taken on a new task - teaching.
Iron Jade was honest and diligent, and his hard work paid off.
In the mornings, he studied the knowledge of Life Scholars with Lindsey, and in the afternoons, he learned writing with Silude. He would then review his lessons in the evenings and even found time to patrol the camp.
Despite his busy schedule, Iron Jade's progress in his studies grew daily.
After the completion of the Medical Station, he underwent a knowledge infusion.
Now, he could use Essence to alleviate minor ailments like sprains and colds.
The pressure was back on Lindsey.
"Essence and the current conditions can only alleviate minor ailments. If we encounter serious illnesses or injuries, we still need professional medicines."
"Medicines and medicinal plants and minerals need to be collected."
Four days later, one evening.
Just before going to bed, Lindsey was writing vigorously, planning the camp's development and prioritizing the need for medicines.
In fact, he had already selected some of his stored herbs and was cultivating them in the backyard.
However, due to Lindsey's robust physique and the healing effects of Vitality Essence, he hadn't prepared anything to deal with common illnesses during his adventures. Most of his items were for emergency treatment.
"Managing a territory is more difficult than I imagined."
Lindsey sighed softly.
The next moment, Silude spoke up from the side:
"If you want things to be easy, there is a way."
"As long as my skills can be restored, whether it's repairing the world or expanding this haven of survival, it will all be a piece of cake."
Due to Lindsey's supervision, Silude also maintained the same daily routine as him.
As Lindsey was still working overtime, she smiled and watched him from the side.
Lindsey rolled his eyes at Silude:
"What, aren't you going to sleep?"
Silude's eyebrows arched, and a wild energy radiated from her wine-red eyes:
"I'm a writer! Staying up late... Hmph, you underestimate me!"
"..."
It was undeniable that Silude had a unique talent.
With just a few words, she could make Lindsey not want to deal with her.
Seeing Lindsey's silence, Silude smiled as if she had won a battle, then leaned in:
"Although I can't use my Essence skills, the essence of change is still within me. I can't harm myself to change my fate, let alone something as minor as staying up late—as long as I have food and water, I can live for thousands of years."
Slap!
At this hour, it was already late.
Lindsey slammed his notebook shut, ready to go to bed.
Before undressing, he glared at Silude:
"Every time I see you, I think of an old saying, 'Good People Don't Live Long, Their Evil Lingers for a Thousand Years'!"
Silude was particularly concerned about the latter part:
"Good people don't live long, but their evil lingers for a thousand years?"
"Not bad, it's quite elegant. I can use this in my next novel!"
Lindsey ignored her and lay down to sleep.
But just then, a new line of text quietly appeared in his attribute panel's task list.
【Mutated Botanical Garden】
【In a barren land, a canyon hides a botanical paradise, but it seems to conceal a secret. Uncover its truth.】
【Task Reward: A small amount of money, 10 random plant seeds】
"Huh?"
In an instant, Lindsey's sleepiness vanished.
In the canyon, a botanical paradise awaits, suggesting the presence of native plants from the Desolate Land, well-adapted to the local environment. This exceptional discovery might also lead to an environmental transformation strategy beyond the Banyan Forest.
"Essence Fluctuation—Lindsey, what new trick have you pulled off now?"
"..."
Silude's voice echoed, but Lindsey didn't respond immediately, as he was deeply engrossed in analyzing the current situation.
The changes in his task list were always closely tied to his experiences. However, Lindsey had been staying within the territory for the past few days, focusing on its development and not venturing out. Therefore, it was unlikely that he had triggered this task himself.
The only plausible explanation was that the Wildland Hunter he had sent out for exploration had encountered a crisis, aligning with the fluctuations of destiny that Silude had foreseen.
"But the appearance of a task often signifies the emergence of danger."
"So... Are Dune and his companions in trouble?"
Lindsey's expression turned grave. Those Wildland Hunters were his high-rank warriors, capable of making significant contributions even during their hunting expeditions.
The territory's development had just started to stabilize, and an unexpected crisis like this could be detrimental to their progress.
Lindsey's mood soured, and he no longer felt like sleeping. He rose from his bed, threw on his coat, and prepared to leave.
"Silude, can't you see the fluctuations of destiny? Which direction is the most intense right now?"
Silude's gaze fixed on Lindsey: "Let me see... It's probably in the south... Oh, Lindsey, what are you doing?"
Before Silude could finish her sentence, she felt herself being pulled backward. She turned her wheelchair to see Lindsey descending the stairs, and to her surprise, he was carrying her down with one hand!
"It's so late, and you want me, a disabled girl, to come with you?"
Lindsey's cold voice echoed from the front: "Of course. Consider it a chance to atone for your past misdeeds."
Silude began to complain: "For a young girl, staying up late can ruin her skin."
Lindsey's voice remained steady: "Don't you have over a thousand years left to live? You can take your time to recuperate."
"..."
Silude fell silent, torn by her thoughts, and she stopped speaking.
Lindsey made his way outside. There were soldiers on night patrol within the camp, and after briefing them on the situation, he set off with Silude toward the south.
With Lindsey's current speed, the surroundings blurred into phantoms, and even the flat ground seemed to stir up a cyclone. He didn't need to treat Silude with delicate care.
Focusing on the right direction, they raced ahead without hesitation. What would normally take hours or even over a day to traverse was compressed into a much shorter journey.
As dawn had not yet broken, they reached their destination. On the map interface, Lindsey spotted the familiar green marker.
He slowed down: "We're almost there. Do you want to come with me or stay here?"
Silude didn't hesitate: "We've come this far. You can't leave me, a disabled girl, here alone, can you?"
Lindsey considered her words and chose to remain silent.
They continued for a few more minutes.
In the shadows of the southern mountains, they found Dune and his companions in a dire situation, desperately fleeing from a group of strange and unusual bugs.
