Chapter 557: Zong Shimen's Gratitude
Chapter 557: Zong Shimen's Gratitude
Lu Jiaxin watched the news for a while before returning to her room to work on her screenplay for 'God of Gamblers 2'.
In her past life, the sequel had only come out after several years, indicating that the script must have undergone extensive refinement. Thus, she was skeptical of Wang Sanri's ability to produce a script so quickly.
A good script, combined with competent directing and acting, was the recipe for a successful film. A lackluster director and talented actors could not salvage a poorly written script, and she did not want to be responsible for ruining a classic.
Since she was merely transcribing her memories, the writing process was swift. Having written half of it over the past two days, she intended to finish it today before turning her attention to 'Legally Blonde 2'. Sighing, she wished for her small notebook. There was a typewriter at home, but she was unaccustomed to using it, and it was tedious to operate.
When dinnertime arrived, Lu Jiaxin washed up and headed out.
The evening meal was a balance of dishes that catered to both Lu Jiaxin's and Zong Shimen's preferences. To entertain their guest, the chefs had been specially invited from a prestigious hotel. They spared no expense to ensure a luxurious dining experience.
After the meal, the two women strolled through the mansion's grounds. Upon reaching the lush and vibrant backyard garden, Zong Shimen expressed her adoration for the vibrant flora. She said, "Jiaxin, after some time, I'd like to bring my three children here to stay for a while."
Lu Jiaxin smiled and replied, "Of course! If you're bringing the kids, I'll have the second courtyard prepared for you and the children to stay in."
Currently, Zong Shimen resided in the west wing of Lu Jiaxin's mansion, her quarters adorned with antique furnishings. Lu Jiaxin had assumed that having grown up in Hong Kong and spending four years abroad, Zong Shimen would have developed a preference for Western aesthetics. However, she was surprised to find that Zong Shimen also appreciated Eastern culture.
Zong Shimen didn't hesitate to accept, "Alright, in half a month, I'll bring the children over."
Lu Jiaxin said, "I spoke with Ah Zan on the phone, and he asked me to talk some sense into you. He said that holding onto anger is detrimental to your health. Shimen, there's no point in dwelling on the past and the wrongs done to you. It's important to seek solace and move forward."
Seeing Zong Shimen's gaze, Lu Jiaxin smiled, "I told him how much you adore this mansion, and that perhaps your mood would improve if Brother-in-law bought you a place like this. Ah Zan plans to relay this message to him during their dinner tonight. If your brother-in-law is considerate, he'll take the initiative to offer to buy you a place. If he doesn't bring it up, then you can just focus on taking care of the kids."
Divorce was not an option for Zong Shimen, and Hu Zhifeng would never consider it either. There were many factors at play, including their shared interests, family, and children.
Lu Jiaxin had never commented on Hu Zhifeng's extramarital affairs because it was commonplace among wealthy men in Hong Kong. In fact, Hu Zhifeng was relatively restrained, as he recognized the importance of his wife and children and still treated Shimen with respect. Some men, once they attained success, became insufferable.
Zong Shimen grasped Lu Jiaxin's hand, deeply touched, and said, "Thank you, little sister."
Her husband had many friends, but Nie Zan was undoubtedly one of his most trusted confidants. However, she was also aware that Nie Zan would not have spoken up if it weren't for Lu Jiaxin.
Lu Jiaxin smiled, "There's no need to thank me. But to acquire a mansion like Si Jiu City, you need to have your ear to the ground. By the way, remember to use green bills for the transaction. They are the most sought-after currency in Si Jiu City."
Zong Shimen was not surprised, as the green bills were popular not only in China but also overseas. They had become a form of hard currency.
The next day, at 5:30 in the morning, Lu Jiaxin took Zong Shimen for a jog along Houhai Lake. However, they ended up walking instead, as Zong Shimen couldn't keep up with the pace.
After breakfast, Lu Jiaxin brought Zong Shimen to the Forbidden City. She had arranged for a skilled tour guide, whose captivating storytelling left both Zong Shimen and Lu Jiaxin, who had visited twice before, completely engrossed.
By the time they finished touring the Forbidden City, it was already past 1:00 pm, and they returned home without making any other stops. The scorching summer heat made lounging at home in front of the TV much more appealing than venturing outdoors.
Over the next few days, Lu Jiaxin took Zong Shimen to visit the China Museum, memorial halls, the Old Summer Palace, and the Summer Palace. They also took leisurely strolls through several parks.
Due to the oppressive heat, Lu Jiaxin limited their outings to the mornings. While she could endure the heat in the mornings, the afternoons were simply unbearable. However, the Badaling Great Wall was quite a distance from the city, so they had to set off early to arrive during the hottest part of the day.
Lu Jiaxin left at 4:00 am and spent the night at the foot of the Great Wall. The next day, at 5:00 am, she took Zong Shimen to climb the Great Wall. They listened to the guide's explanations, climbed, took photos, and by noon, they were back at the foot of the wall.
The group had a quick, casual lunch at a nearby restaurant before heading home. In the car, Zong Shimen touched her face and laughed, "I've been out in the sun a lot these past few days. I must have tanned quite a bit."
Lu Jiaxin pointed to her own face, "How much darker can you get compared to me? I've been sunbathing for most of this month and have become as dark as they come. But it doesn't matter, as long as we're having fun."
Despite her words, as soon as they returned home, she grabbed a facial mask and applied it, with Zong Shimen following suit. Noticing that Lu Jiaxin's mask had no brand name, Zong Shimen asked, "What brand of facial mask is this?"
Lu Jiaxin smiled, "This is called Jade Skin Cream, and it's made according to an ancient formula. They say that with continued use, you'll see surprising results."
Zong Shimen's eyes widened in surprise, "You dare to use something like this?"
Lu Jiaxin laughed, "I had someone test it first to make sure it was safe before using it myself. I've been out in the sun a lot lately, and my face often feels scorched. This cream really helps soothe and refresh my skin."
Zong Shimen was hesitant to try it, claiming she had sensitive skin.
Lu Jiaxin didn't mind and went to wash her face in the bathroom. After cleansing, she applied the Jade Skin Cream and lay down in a rocking chair, the comfort of which almost lulled her to sleep.
Zong Shimen opted for a facial mask from a well-known brand. After Lu Jiaxin finished washing her face, Zong Shimen examined her closely and said, "I think your skin looks even more radiant after using that facial mask."
Lu Jiaxin exclaimed in surprise, "Really? I hadn't noticed."
She had noticed that her skin felt smoother after using the mask, something she could discern by touch, but she hadn't seen any noticeable difference in radiance when looking in the mirror.
"Shimen, when we get back, I'll send you the test report for the mask. If the ingredients suit your skin type, you should give it a try. I guarantee you won't regret it."
Those with sensitive skin had to be very cautious with skincare and cosmetic products, as using the wrong ones could lead to skin issues. Therefore, it was essential to review the product's composition before making a decision.
Seeing Lu Jiaxin's enthusiasm, Zong Shimen smiled and nodded in agreement, "Are you planning to venture into the cosmetics industry?"
Lu Jiaxin nodded, "I initially wanted to acquire and manage a real estate company, but I later realized that real estate, hotels, and telecommunications were not my forte and proved to be quite challenging. On the other hand, fashion, jewelry, cosmetics, and perfumes come much more naturally to me."
"Ah Zan and I have already discussed it, and from now on, I'll be in charge of managing the fashion, jewelry, cosmetics, perfume, and film companies. He can handle the rest since I'm not well-versed in those industries."
Zong Shimen thought this arrangement was excellent.
