Chapter 557: Teacher and Student
Chapter 557: Teacher and Student
"Oh, is the Lord working here himself?"
The second person to arrive was Xylud.
As she watched Lindsey and Vivian working amidst the scattered sunlight filtering through the banyan grove at noon, her tone naturally carried a hint of ambiguity. "By indulging these commoners and personally taking on such tasks, you might achieve the opposite effect, don't you think?"
Lindsey glanced sideways at Xylud.
He didn't feel like responding to this person, but when he noticed Vivian also shifting her attention towards them, he decided to give a proper reply, "Of course I know that authority can't solely come from charity."
"If someone challenges me, I wouldn't mind re-establishing my prestige."
Xylud's eyes lit up immediately. "A balance of benevolence and authority? Lindsey, are you really a first-time lord?"
Lindsey withdrew his gaze. "If this weren't my first time, I wouldn't have remembered to have lunch with everyone until today."
"..."
Seeing that Lindsey wasn't going to engage in conversation, Xylud didn't continue to make things awkward.
She also pushed her wheelchair into the interior of the building framework.
Although her efficiency was slightly slower than that of a normal person, the virtual construction system wasn't strict; even with only upper-body movement, she could still accelerate the construction speed.
Witnessing this, Vivian found it difficult to remain seated. "Miss Xylud, you have classes in the afternoon and evening. It's better to rest when it comes to laborious tasks..."
"Vivian, you shouldn't underestimate me." Xylud shook her head at Vivian with a smile, "I'm not helping out here for the sake of building the camp; it's purely to regain a tiny bit of my strength."
Lindsey added an explanation for Vivian's benefit, "This person's essence art has suffered severe damage, almost losing its function entirely. But by receiving an infusion of knowledge during construction, she can recover a sliver of her power."
Lindsey snorted, "Don't be fooled by her hard work."
"In reality, she's rushing to complete the construction so she can undergo another transformation."
Xylud smiled seductively, "Don't make me sound so utilitarian."
"This is a mutually beneficial arrangement. According to what you said earlier, it's called... yes, a double win! It's a win-win situation!"
Lindsey stopped paying attention to Xylud.
The three of them worked together, significantly increasing the construction speed.
After a quarter of an hour, as the noon sun receded, the villagers resumed their activities.
Some carried branches to the outskirts of the banyan grove, expanding its coverage area; others collected stones and minerals, along with the remains of hunted animals; the rest headed to the farmland, where work with the strategic structures was already familiar to them.
When they saw the workers responsible for construction approaching, Lindsey stepped back and asked, "By the way, who do you two think is suitable for the doctor's position in the camp?"
Even with the support of strategic structures, medical care was of utmost importance.
Lindsey took the task of selecting the right person seriously, as it involved the health and lives of the people.
Upon hearing the question, Vivian immediately fell into deep thought.
Xylud, on the other hand, had a simpler perspective. She spread her hands wide on her wheelchair and smiled regretfully, "My opinion is that no one here is suitable, or perhaps everyone is suitable."
"The medical and hygiene knowledge of the people in this world is so scarce that it's almost non-existent. Whomever you choose will start from scratch."
"..."
Lindsey fell into contemplation.
Xylud was right; the Desolate Land was such a place.
A regular person could only accept such a situation.
But for Lindsey, his experiences over the past few years had indeed given him some ideas!
"Iron Jade, come here!"
Lindsey called out to the crowd.
The young, honest Iron Jade immediately rushed over, his eyes gleaming with loyalty towards Lindsey.
"Sir Lindsey, what are your instructions?"
Lindsey nodded slightly.
"That's right, I have something to discuss with you. Come with me."
This time, Lindsey didn't bring along any extra people.
He and this young Awakened one went to the second floor of his plant cottage.
Then, Lindsey sat down at the desk and specifically pulled out a chair for Iron Jade:
"Take a seat first, and then we'll talk."
Iron Jade was a bit puzzled but still obediently sat down as instructed.
"Sir Lindsey?"
Lindsey began, confirming,
"I learned before that you're a newly awakened First Stage Awakened one, and besides simple Essence Manipulation, you haven't yet mastered any techniques, right?"
Iron Jade's expression immediately turned tense, and sweat beaded on his brow.
"I... I've been striving to become a Hunter. These past few days, whenever I have time, I ask the Hunters in the Dunes for guidance..."
Iron Jade unconsciously lowered his head.
Besides the newly joined Awakened ones in the camp, he was the only remaining Awakened one after the last attack.
Hearing Lindsey's inquiry, he subconsciously felt that his performance wasn't satisfactory.
But Iron Jade hadn't expected this.
Lindsey, upon learning that he hadn't mastered any techniques yet, revealed a satisfied smile.
Then, the young Awakened one watched as Lindsey took out notebook after notebook from his bag and placed them on the table before him.
At this moment, Lindsey finally spoke:
"Iron Jade, do you know about Volcanic City and Life Scholars?"
Iron Jade shook his head in bewilderment.
"What are they?"
"It's a collective term for Awakened ones and the main city they possess in their world." Lindsey explained, then added according to Iron Jade's understanding, "In the Desolate Land, it's like Hunters or Law Knights?"
The honest and straightforward young man still didn't grasp Lindsey's meaning.
Facing this question, he instead thought of another aspect, his expression growing even more ashamed.
"Sir Lindsey, I... I've never heard of Life Scholars operating in the Desolate Land. If you..."
Seeing that Iron Jade was about to ask something, Lindsey quickly interrupted him.
"No, no, no. You misunderstood me."
"At noon today, I established a new Medical Station in the camp, and someone will need to reside there and take on the corresponding medical work. This task also requires the necessary skills."
"I called you here today to see what you think. Are you willing to learn the techniques of Life Scholars from me?"
Lindsey's idea was simple.
Physicians are a skill lineage originating from Volcanic City and are also a subordinate branch of Life Scholars.
If Iron Jade agreed, Lindsey would teach him everything he knew.
This would not only ensure that a suitable Awakened one with the right skills would become a physician but also fulfill Finn's wish, a win-win situation.
Iron Jade's response was as expected.
In the Desolate Land, where skill inheritance was incredibly challenging to find, and even Hunters were considered high-end professions, Iron Jade's eyes lit up with excitement and gratitude upon hearing this news.
"Sir Lindsey! I... I'm willing!"
"I swear to study diligently and do my utmost to complete your task!"
