Chapter 557: Bug Haven
Chapter 557: Bug Haven
Liam and the others arrived at an apartment. As soon as they opened the door, they heard a raucous noise coming from inside.
"Watch your head", J grunted as he entered. Liam then realized that the ceiling was extremely low, barely reaching his neck. He tilted his head to get inside and saw four Alien Bugs inside, exercising, taking a bubble bath, drinking, and reading the newspaper.
"We're sorry, the Mib Headquarters has been taken over, and we need your help", J said to the Alien Bugs, introducing Lola in the process.
"They look like a bunch of bugs", Lola remarked as she stepped closer. The bugs, hearing this, responded cheerfully, "Hey, Lola, bugs will make you feel all tingly inside."
"They're always like this, no ill intent", J explained to Lola, then turned to the others. "By the way, we have two more helpers from other worlds to ensure your safety—hey, you guys, get in here!"
"This place is too low, not very suitable for us to move around. I'm a bit worried that the Alien Criminals might show up. We need to ensure we can fight at full capacity here", Liam said to J, who was gesturing for him to come over. "As Wizards, we have a way to deal with environmental issues like this. Just give us a moment."
With that, Liam and the others each took out a thin glass vial and swallowed the bright green liquid inside. Soon, to J's shocked expression, Liam and the others began to shrink, eventually transforming into two seven or eight-year-old children.
"Wow, wow", everyone in the room exclaimed. J asked directly, "Is that a Rejuvenation Potion? Magic is truly amazing."
"No, no, no", the child-sized Liam explained while using his wand to shrink his clothes. "It's just a Shrinking Potion, which only makes us look younger. And we have to drink it every half-hour, which is quite a hassle. We're using it to move around more easily in this low-ceilinged room."
"Very good", K said as he walked in and saw everything. He then turned to J. "We're parked illegally, so we need to move quickly. And as I said, they are experienced warriors. They immediately adjusted to the situation to ensure they are in the best state for battle."
"Thank you for the compliment", Hermione nodded at K. She then looked around the room and turned to J, "I want to know if they are reliable. We've been through many wars, and one crucial thing is having trustworthy allies."
"Of course, they are reliable. They used to be long-time employees of the Mib. They were only suspended recently for stealing goods from the duty-free zone", J explained. However, the Alien Bugs immediately protested, "We were framed." "Because Z is super afraid of bugs."
"Alright, Lola is important to me, no, to us, so I hope you take good care of her", K said as he left the room. Before leaving, J reminded Liam and the bugs, "Take care of her."
"Sure thing." "Don't worry." "Trust us." The bugs and Liam responded. At this moment, Lola kissed J, causing everyone to cheer. After a few more instructions and leaving his communicator, J left to join K.
"Let's play Twister!" one of the bugs held up a spinner and invited them. Lola happily accepted, but Liam and Hermione politely declined. As the bugs started playing, the two began to walk around the room, casting defensive spells.
"Warding Charm, Trap Spell, Protective Enchantment, Muggle Repellent—" as they waved their wands and chanted spells, one by one, defensive magics appeared around the Bug Haven.
"Wow, that's cool", one of the bugs said as a small instrument in the room beeped. The bug ran over to check it and gave Liam and the others a thumbs-up. "That's a powerful Energy Shield. I can't tell what it does, but the energy signature shows you're really skilled, at least as good as the energy shields on civilian spaceships."
"Civilian spaceships?" Liam felt a bit unsatisfied. Although they had used standard magic, they had put a lot of effort into it. He hadn't expected the energy intensity of their magical barrier to be equivalent to that of a civilian spaceship.
"Hey, what's there to complain about?" The bug lifted its head to look at Liam. "An intelligent being, using just a small wooden stick and their own body, can release energy on par with a spaceship capable of carrying 500 people for faster-than-light travel. That's considered one of the top-tier beings in the entire galaxy. The last time I saw a creature with that kind of energy was a 27-kilometer-long Gigantic Cosmic Octopus near a star. You, with your tiny body, mastering such powerful energy, I don't see what you have to complain about."
"Because I've seen more powerful beings, some of whom could even create worlds. Compared to them, I'm nothing." Liam was referring to the deities he encountered in the Lord of the Rings world, which left the bug in utter shock.
"I should be grateful I wasn't born in such a terrifying world." The bug made a shocked expression, then poured a glass of champagne. "Living in such a world must be dangerous. Let's raise a glass to the fact that we are still happily living in these worlds that are always full of danger."
Liam took the champagne and sipped it, then pulled a bottle from his Spatial Bag. "Try this. It's Elf-made Vintage Wine."
"Delicious." The bug took a sip of the wine Liam poured. "It's much better than I expected. It seems that worlds filled with magic aren't just dangerous after all."
As they chatted and played for about half an hour, Lola's communicator suddenly rang. It was J calling to check on the status of her bracelet. Lola glanced at it and noticed it was glowing. Upon hearing this, J informed her that they were on their way.
"What's going on with this bracelet?" Lola asked Liam and the others after ending the call. Liam waved his wand to inspect it and found that it was gathering a significant amount of energy. However, since the bracelet was purely a technological creation, he could only sense that the energy inside it was potentially dangerous but couldn't identify what it specifically contained.
As Liam was considering whether to use a Vanishing Spell to dispose of this energy bomb, he suddenly raised his head and fixed his gaze on the door. The warning Magic Array he had set up had reacted, indicating that someone was lurking outside. He had hidden this place with magic, so theoretically, no one should be wandering around here.
With that thought, Liam waved his wand, and a screen appeared in mid-air, displaying a figure with a sneaky look, wearing a red tank top and carrying a large Backpack.
"He's likely an Alien Criminal. If I'm not mistaken, he was with Selena before." The bug, holding a glass of wine, walked over and glanced at the screen. "I just don't know what he's doing here."
"Letting him wander outside isn't a good idea. We might as well bring him in and ask him what he's up to." Liam walked to the door, pushed it open, and cast a Stunning Spell at the suspicious figure in the corridor. The guy was immediately knocked out and dragged inside. After confiscating several weapons and securing him, Liam called J.
"When are you coming back?" Liam asked, his voice tinged with urgency. "A two-headed freak has found us. I'm worried more attackers will follow."
"What?" J's voice came through the communicator, with K's voice faintly audible in the background. "It seems Frank has been captured, and the Light of Sator's location has been exposed. We need to hurry."
"Are you all okay?" J's concerned voice asked.
"Don't worry, everyone is fine", Liam reassured him. "Including Lola, so you don't need to be concerned."
"Alright, we're on our way." The call ended, and Liam knew that J and K would arrive soon. The final battle was about to begin.
