Chapter 556: Souvenirs (First Update)
Chapter 556: Souvenirs (First Update)
"What, you're all sure you want to bet on the biggest underdog with the highest odds?"
Ten minutes later, Ludo looked at everyone who had just come out of the Magic tent. They all took out all their savings and bet on the least likely outcome, and the disbelief was evident on his face.
This was completely unlike the Weasley family's usual style.
Especially since just a moment ago, Arthur had only taken out two galleons to bet on the safest option with the lowest odds.
However, seeing everyone nod in unison, he didn't say anything more.
After all, for him, this was a good thing. Why not make some easy money?
"Here, take these. These are your vouchers for claiming your winnings later."
Ludo quickly pulled out his quill and noted down each person's name and bet, then distributed the special parchment strips to everyone.
But when he recorded the bet of the masked Jerry and learned his true identity, he suddenly felt a faint sense of unease.
He didn't dwell on it, though. It was common for Quidditch players to bet on themselves winning each year, not necessarily because they were sure they would win, but to boost their confidence.
Still, Jerry betting so much on the underdog and getting the entire Weasley family to follow suit was a bit puzzling.
"Jerry, we're counting on you from now on!"
As Ludo walked away with a large bag towards the next Magic tent, everyone looked at Jerry with hopeful eyes.
They had bet all their savings, and if anything went wrong, it would be a big problem.
Jerry, however, calmly gave the okay gesture. He had just casually bet a thousand galleons.
To him, money was no longer meaningful.
Apart from the huge royalties from his book, with his current transformation spell skills, he could easily create galleons with the special goblin marks.
The only issue was that galleons had serial numbers, and too many fake ones entering the market could cause chaos.
But that wasn't a problem. The precious herbs in his ring world, the large batches of potions he had brewed, and the various magic devices he had made could easily fetch a lot of galleons if he sold just a fraction of them.
However, he couldn't just give these galleons to the Weasley family and Hermione because of their pride. They wouldn't accept it.
Harry, despite being quite wealthy, always wanted to help the Weasleys but ultimately refrained due to the same reason.
So, this form of assistance was better and more acceptable to them.
After Ludo left, a few Ministry of Magic officials stopped by the tent to chat with Arthur when they saw him, mentioning an important event to be held at Hogwarts.
When the Weasley brothers asked what the event was, the officials and Arthur kept it mysterious, saying they would find out once school started.
However, this also showed that despite the Weasley family being relatively poor due to raising children, Arthur had good relationships with most of the Ministry officials.
Of course, this was partly due to his surname, Weasley.
As dusk approached, Percy, who had been absent, finally appeared.
He had been busy with other colleagues stopping witches in the camp from casting random spells, to prevent any accidents.
It's important to note that each Quidditch World Cup is rarely peaceful. Often, there are witches who get too excited and cause a myriad of headaches before the match even starts.
For example, in 1809, a dark witch cast a powerful curse on the forest near the campsite, causing the trees to uproot and attack all the witches present. The witches battled for seven hours to neutralize the cursed trees, but many lost their lives in the process.
In 1877, the match was referred to as the "Match No One Remembers." This is because someone used a large-scale Obliviate spell, erasing all the participants' memories of the events during the match.
Such incidents have occurred numerous times throughout the 421 World Cup finals in witch history.
Now, with the official entry to the match just around the corner, the Ministry of Magic can no longer suppress the excitement, so they have relaxed their management a bit, allowing Percy and other security personnel to take a short break.
Meanwhile, vendors who were well-prepared have started to appear, using Phantom Shift to apparate in with trays and carts, selling various items and souvenirs for the match.
There are green Irish shamrock badges that glow and red English cross badges, and these badges can even shout out the names of your favorite players.
There are green hats with shamrocks that flutter in the wind, red sashes with lions that occasionally roar, and mini Firebolts and models of all the players from both teams. The mini Firebolts can fly under the control of magic, and one young boy, upon buying one, immediately used it to poke his father's behind.
The player models can be held in your hand, and they will strut around proudly. Jerry even noticed several models of himself.
If it weren't for the lack of image rights in the wizarding world, these merchants would have to share some of their profits with him for using his likeness.
Finally, no witch attending the match would be without a pair of omnoculars, which allow you to see every detail of the entire stadium, support replays and slow-motion, and provide real-time match analysis.
"Oh no, we gave all our money to Mr. Bagman!"
Hermione's exclamation brought the group's initial excitement over the souvenirs to a sudden halt. They had just realized that, in a moment of impulsiveness, they had spent all their money on bets and were now penniless.
Even Harry was included in this, though he wasn't particularly short of money compared to the average witch. However, even he saw no reason to pass up an opportunity to make more, so he had also spent all the money in his pocket on bets. Now, he couldn't immediately go to Diagon Alley to withdraw more from Gringotts.
Without money, these fascinating little gadgets would be out of their reach.
"Don't worry, I still have some!"
Jerry casually reached into his backpack and pulled out another bag of Galleons.
"Really rich!"
Everyone couldn't help but exclaim when they saw Jerry produce another bag of Galleons. He had placed the largest bet, a full thousand Galleons, and now he still had so much left over.
"Come on, Jerry, you don't have to do that!"
Ron's face turned red as he was the first to refuse.
