Chapter 555: New Era Dark Lord Manifesto
Chapter 555: New Era Dark Lord Manifesto
Ivan waited curiously in place.
A few minutes later, Asia walked out of the house, holding a book in her hand.
"This is something Gryson asked me to give you a few days ago. I think it's quite well-written. If you have time, you might want to take a look", Asia said, handing the book to Ivan.
Gryson? Ivan thought for a moment but couldn't recall much about the name. He only remembered seeing it on the list of personnel Dawgert had given him, one of his subordinates.
Ivan took the book and glanced at the cover. The title, "New Century Manifesto", was inscribed in golden-red lettering. The background was a black-and-white illustration, hand-drawn, depicting a scene where a short Wizard stood at the center, surrounded by a crowd. He was raising his left hand as if performing some action.
Pure black backdrops left white lines extending from the Wizard's left hand, seemingly representing boundless light. A few Wizards appeared to be kneeling and repenting at his feet, as if they were being summoned.
Ivan furrowed his brow, suspecting that this book might be a cult's propaganda, but why did this scene seem so familiar to him?
He flipped through a few pages and realized it was a philosophical book with some religious ideas mixed in.
"He was born with great Wisdom."
"He is the only light in the darkness, destined to lead us to prosperity."
Ivan pursed his lips. He had never been interested in such books and even suspected Gryson of being a fanatical religious zealot, trying to recruit him.
However, given the unique title and Asia's recommendation, Ivan closed the book and decided to find some time to read it when he got back.
If it turned out to be as he suspected, he would have to consider kicking Gryson out of Knockturn Alley to prevent him from misleading other Wizards.
"Mom, it's getting late. I should probably head back", Ivan said, putting the book away and glancing at the clock on the wall.
Asia affectionately ruffled Ivan's hair, though she didn't try to keep him. She only reminded him to remember to write her regularly once he returned to school.
"Of course, I'll remember! I'll write at least once a week!" Ivan replied earnestly.
"Sure you will! How many times have you written to me in the past few years? And every Christmas, you promise to come back, but you never do!"
Asia playfully flicked Ivan's forehead, reminding him to write down a reminder and put it somewhere visible, or he would surely forget.
Ivan shrugged helplessly. How could he be blamed?
Every year, Hogwarts had a mountain of miscellaneous tasks to handle. In the last two Christmases, he was either busy integrating a new bloodline or helping Dumbledore with his cleanup. How could he possibly come back?
This year, with the Triwizard Tournament at Hogwarts and Voldemort secretly plotting his resurrection, Ivan had no idea if he would be able to return for Christmas. He couldn't make any promises, so he just mumbled something vague to get past it.
After bidding farewell to Asia, Ivan used Apparition to return to Nicolas Flamel's residence.
Two long-distance Teleportations in one day, even with his Magic reserves exceeding those of an average adult Wizard, still left him feeling drained.
Fortunately, London wasn't too far from Paris, or he would have been completely drained!
Ivan shook his head and walked from the courtyard into the house. A group of small Alchemical Creatures chirped noisily, and the strange green plants nearby swayed as if welcoming him home.
Ivan was unfazed; over the past month, he had become quite familiar with the Alchemical Creatures and Magical Plants here, forming a close relationship with them.
"Where’s Ukaka Master?" Ivan looked around but didn’t see Nicolas Flamel, so he turned to the "Little Turnips."
They all pointed in the direction of the Workshop, and Ivan immediately understood. It seemed that Nicolas Flamel was so engrossed in his research that he didn’t come out as usual for afternoon tea.
"What is Master researching?" Ivan gazed at the closed door of the first-floor Workshop, speculating to himself.
He had initially thought that Nicolas Flamel was working on repairing the Deathly Hallows—Resurrection Stone. However, when he entered the Workshop yesterday to seek advice, he unexpectedly saw the Alchemical Master drawing a diagram.
Although he only managed to glance at it briefly, the impression was so vivid that he clearly remembered the diagram showing a peculiar device.
The device was covered with Runic Inscriptions that channeled Magic, and at its center was a recessed slot containing a vivid red, irregular stone that looked exactly like the Philosopher's Stone he had seen before.
It was clear that Nicolas Flamel was intensely focused on something related to the Philosopher's Stone, not the Resurrection Stone as he had initially thought!
But if he remembered correctly, the Philosopher's Stone had already been destroyed. What was the point of researching it?
Or was the destruction of the Philosopher's Stone just a public ruse?
Even if that were the case, Ivan still found it strange.
Dumbledore had explicitly mentioned entrusting Nicolas Flamel with the task of "repairing" something, which led him to assume it was the Resurrection Stone.
Nothing else seemed to fit.
Ivan stroked his chin, suspecting that Nicolas Flamel might be researching multiple things simultaneously, but upon further thought, he found that unlikely.
Dumbledore had been very anxious to shorten the "repair" time, and given their friendly relationship, it was improbable that Nicolas Flamel would distract himself by researching other topics.
Sigh, never mind!
After pondering for a while and still not understanding, Ivan shook his head and put the thought aside. After all, these were matters between the big shots, and he had no control over them.
He played with the Alchemical Creatures for a bit and watered the peculiar green plants before returning to his room. Curious, he opened the New Century Manifesto and began to read.
Flipping to the first page, he saw the enlarged, golden-red preface and was instantly stunned.
【We should judge a Wizard by their Magic level, not their bloodline. Bloodline theory is nothing but the foolish notion of the ignorant. This is the Wizarding World, where Magic is power!】
"Wait, didn’t I say that? Why is it in this book?" Ivan was puzzled. He looked at the signature below and, as expected, saw his own name.
Suddenly, he remembered something and flipped back to the cover. He realized it was the scene from over a month ago when he killed Res Nott in the Council Hall.
"Can’t be!" As he read on, a sense of unease crept over him. He quickly turned the pages, and his expression grew increasingly complex.
"Hmm?"
"What?"
"What?!"
