Chapter 554: The Power of Wave Guiding
Chapter 554: The Power of Wave Guiding
Might Guy turned to look at Lucario.
Given Guy's personality, he would naturally agree, eager to familiarize himself with this new power and become stronger through battle.
However, they had a contractual relationship, and Guy respected Lucario's choice.
"Lo!" Lucario glared at the Mightyena, its eyes full of fighting intent.
The narrow loss to Riolu left it unsatisfied. Now that it had evolved and become stronger, it wanted to avenge its previous defeat and bring victory to Guy.
Although Kakashi and the others couldn't understand Pokemon language, they could tell that Lucario had agreed to Kakashi's request for a battle.
"Go for it! Your well-trained body will respond to your will," Guy encouraged Lucario.
Regarding Lucario, Guy was more than satisfied. That unwavering determination to never give up reminded him of his younger self.
"Mightyena, don't forget how to fight an unknown opponent," Kakashi reminded the Mightyena as he patted its head.
While most of the time, summoned beasts would fight alongside their contractors, Kakashi had taught Mightyena a lot of battle knowledge in preparation for possible special circumstances.
"Roar!" Mightyena let out a confident howl.
Having won against Riolu before, it believed it could do the same with Lucario.
There was no way it could lose now that it had been carefully taught by Kakashi!
After communicating with their respective contractors, Mightyena and Lucario moved to a nearby clearing, awaiting the start of their battle.
"Obito, who do you think will win?" Tobirama casually asked Obito, who was standing beside him.
"Hard to say," Obito shook his head. "We know Mightyena's strength, but Guy's Pokemon just evolved recently."
Evolution was a huge unknown factor.
Before Beautifly emerged, they would never have imagined that the feeble Magikarp could evolve into such a powerful Pokemon, possessing the strength of an elite Jonin, and a tricky one at that.
So, even though Mightyena had defeated Riolu before and evolved even earlier, Obito couldn't be sure that Lucario would lose to Mightyena.
Who knew what kind of enhancement and new abilities Lucario had gained from its evolution.
"I think Mightyena will lose," Tobirama whispered.
"Is it because it headbutted you in the past?" Obito asked.
Tobirama's speculation was obviously influenced by his personal feelings.
Tobirama glared at Obito, widening his eyes. Shouldn't they, as clan members, be united against the evil white-haired force? Why was he bringing up his shortfalls?
"Obito, you've changed," Tobirama glared at Sora.
It must be this despicable fox messing with his inarticulate nine-year-old clan brother.
Sora glared back, unfazed by Tobirama.
The intense stare-down between the boy and the fox was a draw for now.
"Based on their past performances, Mightyena does have a significant chance of losing," Obito said after some thought.
Although Mightyena had won against Riolu when it was still a Rockruff, the victory was a close call. It was evident that Rockruff wasn't Riolu's match in direct confrontation and had won through strategy and perseverance.
Now that Lucario was more experienced, if Mightyena still couldn't match it in a head-on clash, the battle would be challenging.
"Indeed, that's also based on their past performances," Tobirama agreed, giving up on the stare-down with Sora as Obito began his analysis.
"Let the battle begin!" Kakashi shouted as he saw both sides were ready, acting as the guest referee.
The other disciples also turned their attention to the impending battle as soon as Kakashi declared the start.
As soon as Kakashi finished speaking, Mightyena immediately dug its claws into the ground, channeling its Earth-attribute chakra nature.
'Sandstorm!'
A large amount of soil turned into sand, and with a swipe of Mightyena's claws, the sand flew towards Lucario.
This move wasn't lethal, but it was very useful. After all, no matter how strong one's physique was, the eyes were always a weak spot.
However, Lucario was well prepared. As soon as Kakashi gave the signal, it quickly gathered a large amount of chakra into its fist.
'Aura Sphere!'
With Lucario's swing, a wave of force surged forward, dispersing the sand in an instant and continuing its momentum towards Mightyena at breakneck speed.
Having suffered from Sandstorm in their previous encounter, Lucario was now well guarded against it.
Mightyena didn't expect Lucario's counter to be so swift and effective. Caught off guard, it was hit by the Aura Sphere and sent flying backward, crashing into a tree.
Ignoring the pain, Mightyena used chakra to enhance its body and ran at incredible speed, dodging the incoming punch.
Boom!
The tree that Lucario's punch had struck shattered instantly.
"What formidable taijutsu," Kakashi remarked inwardly, impressed by Lucario's display of strength.
Kakashi wasn't too surprised to see Mightyena at a disadvantage.
This confrontation was a result of a lack of information; if Mightyena had known about Lucario's Aura Sphere, it wouldn't have started with Sandstorm.
'Rock Slide!'
Mightyena swiftly gathered chakra and formed three large rocks beside it.
If its opponent hadn't been Lucario, Mightyena would have used Shadow Clone to confuse its foe and create opportunities.
However, Lucario possessed a sensing ability that Mightyena was unaware of, so it had no choice but to engage in a contest of raw power.
'Rock Blast!'
Lucario continued charging towards Mightyena with an unwavering expression, swiftly punching to shatter the rocks that fell towards its head.
'Rock Wrecker!'
After Lucario consecutively shattered several rocks, Mightyena expended a large amount of chakra to create an even larger boulder, causing it to crash down towards Lucario.
The reason it hadn't used the more powerful Rock Wrecker earlier was that it wanted to gradually reduce Lucario's vigilance with the weaker Rock Slide.
As the massive boulder was about to descend, Lucario remained unperturbed.
It channeled all its power into its right arm and then fiercely threw a punch upwards.
Boom!!
The instant Lucario's fist made contact with the giant boulder, cracks appeared and rapidly spread across its surface.
In the next moment, the boulder shattered, and Lucario stood calmly amidst the scattered rubble.
"Amazing," Hanabi Hyuga exclaimed in awe.
Undoubtedly, Lucario's response was incredibly cool, perfectly showcasing its formidable strength and unwavering calm in the face of a mountain-like challenge.
"That's youth for you!" Might Guy exclaimed, giving Lucario a thumbs-up.
While the observing disciples found Lucario impressive, the same couldn't be said for its opponent, Mightyena, which was having a less-than-pleasant experience.
Pressure. Mightyena felt immense pressure.
"I can't lose, especially not to someone who just evolved," Mightyena thought to itself.
Despite being at a disadvantage, Mightyena didn't feel hopeless. During the fight, it had discovered something about Lucario that gave it an advantage.
Speed. Lucario's speed was noticeably slower.
This meant Mightyena had many opportunities to strike, and even if it made a mistake, it could use its faster speed to dodge Lucario's attacks.
'Rock Slide!'
Mightyena once again gathered its strength to create rocks.
While Rock Slide wasn't among its top five most powerful moves, it had the advantages of low chakra consumption and the ability to attack from a distance.
Lucario casually shattered the rocks and then gathered Aura between its claws, forming a deep blue aura sphere.
Sensing something amiss, Mightyena continued to use Rock Slide to distract Lucario but was evaded.
'Aura Bomb!'
Once Lucario had gathered enough Aura, it locked onto Mightyena with its Aura and forcefully threw the Aura Bomb.
"Earth Style: Mudflow Wall!"
Mightyena struck the ground with its claws, creating a wall of mud.
Boom!
The mud wall was blasted, creating a crater, and the Aura Bomb continued towards Mightyena.
Mightyena remained calm and used chakra to enhance its body.
'Spark!'
Mightyena's speed suddenly increased, and it nimbly leaped onto the mudflow wall.
This was its battle strategy: long-range attacks, coupled with earth-style defense and speed advantages to dodge.
However, just as Mightyena was about to initiate the next step of its offense, it suddenly sensed a crisis.
Turning back, Mightyena saw that the Aura Bomb, which should have hit the ground, was curving in mid-air and heading straight for it.
Mightyena tried to dodge, but it was too late; the Aura Bomb was already too close, and Lucario was rushing forward as well.
Boom!
The Aura Bomb hit Mightyena squarely.
The tremendous force caused Mightyena to lose consciousness, its eyes rolling back.
"Lucario wins!" Kakashi declared, seeing that Mightyena had completely lost its ability to fight.
Kakashi considered the outcome reasonable because he had witnessed the entire match. The two decisive moments that led to Mightyena's defeat were Vacuum Wave and Aura Sphere, both a result of a lack of information and misjudgment, ultimately leading to their loss.
"To be able to achieve such a large change in direction, does that mean it can only be countered with defensive ninjutsu or canceled out with offensive ninjutsu?" Kakashi fell into deep thought.
The Aura Sphere that Lucario used to finish off Mightyena was no ordinary move; it was flexible and packed a powerful punch.
"See, I told you it wasn't that great." Obito suppressed his surprise and pretended to have seen through Lucario's abilities.
In truth, Obito had not expected this outcome.
As the first-born Pokemon, and having once defeated the Fire Dinosaur in its unevolved state, Obito secretly believed that Mightyena was strong.
However, since he had already voiced his opinion, and coincidentally happened to be right, he couldn't very well admit that now.
"If it's that strong, then Akimichi might never get a chance to beat it." Obito's heart sank at the thought.
When would he ever get to sit on the throne of the strongest disciple?
Before their graduation, Itachi was always recognized as the strongest disciple.
Later, due to encountering various opponents and crises, Obito and his peers' strength skyrocketed, marking the end of Itachi's era.
During this period, Might Guy also wasn't as formidable as he was now, and Kakashi even had a brief moment of being the strongest.
Once Guy comprehended the Rock Breathing Chakra Mode, he successfully pulled ahead of the other disciples, monopolizing the position of the strongest disciple with sheer power.
Guy's Eight Gates, combined with Rock Breathing Chakra Mode, were indeed formidable. Even with the knowledge of Blue Flame, Obito felt intimidated.
After all, he had the Blue Flame, and Guy had his Golden Horizon.
Upon further reflection, Obito felt that the title of the strongest disciple was still a distant dream, and he would need to strive for it relentlessly.
"Lo!" Lucario pointed at Charizard, indicating that it wanted to continue fighting.
It had sensed Obito's inner desire to defeat Guy.
Since Guy was currently injured and unable to battle, it would step up and defeat his opponent's summoned beast.
After all, the previous fight hadn't drained much of its energy.
"Char?" Charizard scratched its neck and looked at Obito.
It was suddenly challenged, and Obito didn't seem to have a plan.
Charizard wasn't too keen on fighting Lucario, as its performance had been truly impressive.
Charizard didn't want to lose to a Pokemon that had just evolved in front of May. That would make it look bad.
"Come on, old Char, just accept the challenge. Treat it as if you're beating up Obito, and you'll definitely win." Treecko urged Charizard.
"You're the only one who has evolved twice, so what's there to be afraid of?"
At this point, Charizard puffed out its chest proudly. Its number of evolutions indeed put it far ahead of the others.
"Char!" Charizard accepted Lucario's challenge with a roar.
It felt that Treecko's words made sense. Having evolved twice, it would be embarrassing to lose to Lucario, who had only evolved once and was still fresh from its evolution.
As it responded, Charizard turned to glance at May.
Seeing a hint of curiosity in her eyes, Charizard's fighting spirit ignited. If it performed well, May might even come to see it in a new light.
Obito: ...
His feelings were complicated at the moment. He wanted Lucario to teach the rebellious Charizard a lesson, but at the same time, he didn't want Charizard to lose.
After all, Charizard was his summoned beast, one that he had hatched and nurtured. Its loss would also reflect poorly on him.
Since Lucario had just fought a battle, Kakashi, in the spirit of fairness, allowed Lucario to rest for a while.
"I wonder if Charizard will be able to win. The reason why Mightyena lost so badly was probably due to its chakra being countered. Charizard, on the other hand, doesn't have that disadvantage." Kakashi thought to himself.
Mu Yue had once educated them about the type advantages and disadvantages among their Pokemon.
When the rest period was over, Lucario opened its eyes and calmly walked towards the battle arena.
Meanwhile, Charizard stepped forward, encouraged by the other Pokemon.
"Good job." This encouragement came from the now-awakened Mightyena.
"Stay sharp and don't embarrass yourself." This was from Treecko, Charizard's best friend.
