Chapter 553: Charms Study Group Ends
Chapter 553: Charms Study Group Ends
The time had come, and the bell rang, signaling the end of the session. Everyone reluctantly put away their wands.
"When is the next session?"
A fifth-year Gryffindor student asked eagerly.
"Next Friday", Wade replied.
"Can I bring my roommate next time?" Astoria, a Slytherin, raised her hand and asked, "She has to write an essay tonight and won't have time to come."
"Of course", Wade said. "As I mentioned before, the doors of the Charms Study Group are always open. You can decide whether or not to attend."
"Great, Wade", a Ravenclaw Prefect ran over, patting Wade on the arm. "We'll definitely be back next time."
As they left the activity room, people were still enthusiastically discussing their experiences:
"Did you see that? My spell worked just now."
"Yeah, but you didn't block my Laceratus Hulahula."
"I just need more practice! If I practice a few more times, the spell's power will definitely improve!"
"Want to keep practicing in the common room?"
"Sure!"
The students, laughing and joking, walked back to their common rooms, sharing their successes and experiences.
Even as they walked away, Wade could still hear someone shouting, "I never thought learning a spell could be so easy! My mom always said I was gifted!"
He smiled to himself, then waved his wand to tidy up the classroom, putting everything back in its place.
"Hey, want to celebrate? Our first session was a huge success", Anthony said, finishing up the cleaning and walking over with a smile. "I've put a few bottles of Butterbeer in the common room. I think we should have a drink."
"Maybe another time", Michael said, putting his arm around Anthony. "Wade probably has to work on his alchemy, right?"
Wade laughed. "I do have some things to do. You guys go ahead."
"Alright", Anthony didn't push. "Don't miss curfew."
As the last few people left, the classroom quickly grew quiet, with only the candles still burning, casting flickering shadows on the walls.
Wade glanced back at the empty podium, extinguished the candles, and closed the door. He took one more look at the wooden sign hanging on the door. The corridor was already deserted, and the quiet moonlight filtered through the windows, casting a pale blue mist in the air.
For a moment, Wade felt as though he could sense the presence of the young Tom Riddle, who must have walked this same corridor alone on countless nights.
Relying on fear and pure-blood supremacy, Riddle had tapped into the dark desires of the younger students, giving them the power to bully the weak, and gathered his first followers.
But after graduation, Voldemort did not continue this reign of terror. Instead, he took a lowly job at Borgin and Burkes.
Perhaps, in Voldemort's mind, the pursuit of immortality and the search for the founders' relics were more important. But did his early followers see this as a betrayal?
Young Grindelwald and Dumbledore were very similar. Both were exceptionally talented, setting them apart from their peers. Their pride kept them from lowering themselves to make friends or engage in trivial social interactions.
Until Grindelwald found his purpose, he too began to gather followers; Dumbledore, however, withdrew into solitude due to family and personal tragedies.
—What about me?
Wade asked himself: What do I want? What is my goal?
...
The activity room was now completely empty, with only the smoke from the candles rising gently. A few seconds later, the candles suddenly flared up again, quietly burning once more.
A ripple seemed to pass through the air, and in the corner, several figures emerged from their invisible state.
"Do you think Wade noticed us?" Professor Minerva Mcgonagall asked.
"Ha, you should ask Alastor Moody", Professor Filius Flitwick said cheerfully. "I saw him deflect a student's spell! That must have given us away! Luckily, Wade didn't expose us!"
"That was a dancing spell!" Alastor Moody grumbled. "You can't expect me to dance around the classroom with a fake leg."
Filius Flitwick paid no attention to his complaint, standing on a table and clapping his hands. "What a fantastic class! I almost applauded a few times!"
"It was indeed impressive", Professor Mcgonagall said with a approving smile. "Honestly, Wade's teaching methods are worth learning from, even after all these years of teaching Transfiguration."
She walked to the blackboard and examined the colorful diagrams showing the wand movement analysis.
"These boys are getting anxious", Alastor Moody said, looking at Dumbledore. "Perhaps we should add more content to our classes that will help with the Tournament, like other schools do."
Dumbledore shook his head. "No, we should stick to the regular curriculum. Most students won't participate in the Tournament, and their Wizarding O.W.L.s are what truly matter."
"As for this current enthusiasm..." Dumbledore flipped through a student's notebook, which had been left behind, and saw the dense handwriting. "Once the champions are chosen, most students will likely lose their motivation."
"What about Wade's Charms Study Group?" Filius Flitwick asked tentatively.
Dumbledore pondered for a moment before saying, "Let it continue... He's doing a great job, and the students are learning a lot. Any interference from us would be unnecessary."
"But Dumbledore, you know Fudge's thoughts", Alastor Moody said in a low voice. "He's always worried you're training your own army at the school. If he finds out about this study group, he'll think you're doing exactly that."
"Oh, don't worry", Dumbledore said, pulling a lemon drop from his pocket and popping it into his mouth. "Cornelius and I have been getting along quite well lately."
Alastor Moody rolled his eyes. He knew that even they couldn't get Dumbledore to reveal his true thoughts.
"Regardless, the Tournament is about to begin", Dumbledore said, looking out the window. "This is no game, and we must ensure the students' safety above all else."
"Fudge is a fool, hoping you'll win the trophy", Alastor Moody said. "He wants to boast about it on his résumé!"
"Oh, with Wade around..." Filius Flitwick looked at the others. "Right?"
Dumbledore was silent for a moment before saying, "If he doesn't truly want to participate, don't force him, Filius."
"Of course, I wouldn't", Professor Flitwick said. "But it's not just us who care about Hogwarts' honor, Albus."
