Chapter 552: Learning Alchemy
Chapter 552: Learning Alchemy
Nicolas Flamel naturally picked up on Ivan’s underlying meaning and couldn’t help but be at a loss for words.
Repairing an Alchemical Item was no problem for him.
However, the key was to infuse emotion into the pendant to fill the void, which was ultimately inappropriate for him to do. So, Nicolas Flamel shook his head and declined Ivan’s request.
"I’ll teach you the related Emotion Channeling Spell over the next few days. Whether you can fix it or not will depend on you", Nicolas Flamel said.
Ivan’s eyes lit up. If he could learn to channel emotion through Magic, not only could he repair the Crescent Pendant, but he might also be able to create some powerful Magical Items, further advancing his Alchemy skills.
"By the way, Master! Can you tell when this pendant was made?" Ivan suddenly thought of something and asked.
"Based on the wear on the Mithril, it should be about fourteen years old", Nicolas Flamel hesitated before answering Ivan. He then flipped the pendant over and looked at the name engraved on it, continuing, "As for this name, it was inscribed about three years ago."
Fourteen years ago.
Ivan’s mind raced. By the timeline, that would be around the time of his birth.
The name on the pendant was inscribed three years ago, coinciding with when he entered Hogwarts.
This raised some doubts in Ivan’s mind. If this Crescent Pendant was made for him, it should have been engraved with his name and hung around his neck right after his birth.
In his memory, Asia had never worn this pendant.
Why would a Magic Item capable of resisting the Killing Curse be sealed away for so many years after being made?
Ivan furrowed his brow, finding it hard to understand.
"Since you have doubts, why don’t you just ask her directly?" Nicolas Flamel, seeing Ivan deep in thought, suggested.
Ivan shrugged helplessly. He had wanted to ask at first.
But if Asia saw that the Crescent Pendant was broken, she would immediately know that he had almost died at Hogwarts.
Given Asia’s temper, she would likely fly into a rage and might even confront Dumbledore, so Ivan had been putting it off.
Seeing that Ivan was hesitant to answer, Nicolas Flamel understood his concerns and didn’t press further. Instead, he continued to explain the advanced Alchemy knowledge.
Ivan didn’t bring up the matter again, setting aside his doubts and focusing on his studies.
Unconsciously, a month passed. Under Nicolas Flamel’s guidance, Ivan’s Alchemy skills had made tremendous progress.
Although he still had a significant gap to reach the seventh level of the Skill, he had already filled half of the required experience.
Ivan was very satisfied with his progress over the past month. According to Nicolas Flamel’s descriptions and his own speculations, the leap from level six to level seven would be enormous!
What made Ivan even happier was that Nicolas Flamel had finally agreed to take him as a disciple, promising to officially accept him once he repaired the Crescent Pendant!
With a clear goal in mind, Ivan became even more diligent. Using House Points to accelerate his learning, he finished reading the books recommended by Nicolas Flamel a week ago.
In the days that followed, Ivan spent all his time in the Workshop experimenting with the alchemical knowledge he had learned, particularly focusing on how to repair the Crescent Pendant.
A few days earlier, Ivan had learned from Nicolas Flamel how to harness the power of emotion, which could be broadly divided into two methods.
The first method involved using a specific spell to assist in channeling intense and pure emotion into an Alchemical Item.
The advantage of this method was that it was quick and convenient, but the downside was that it was highly difficult. If it failed, the Alchemical Item would become extremely unstable, posing a certain level of risk.
The second method was more complicated and time-consuming, so he didn't even consider it.
Ivan silently pondered this in his mind, but his hands didn't stop moving. He wielded a carving knife, carefully etching Runic Inscriptions onto a Talisman.
Focus on channeling the emotion!
Ivan tried his best to follow the method Nicolas Flamel had taught him, spending several hours to finally inscribe the last Runic Inscription.
"I hope this works!"
Ivan nervously glanced at the Talisman he had made, feeling a bit uneasy. He decided to cast a Protego on himself for added safety before closing his eyes and recalling a moment of danger.
This Magic was somewhat similar to the Patronus Charm, which also involved channeling the power of emotion.
Ivan struggled to recall the moment, his mind filled with the strong desire to protect himself. He then drew his wand and placed the tip against the Talisman, attempting to channel some Magic into it.
Silver threads of light flowed from the tip of his wand into the Talisman, causing the Runic Inscriptions on its surface to light up one by one.
If Ivan had opened his eyes, he would have noticed that the silver threads were not pure, but tinged with a blackish-red hue. This impurity caused the Talisman to darken and grow increasingly hot.
A sudden sense of unease surged through his heart, interrupting his concentration. He opened his eyes and immediately noticed the Talisman's abnormal state.
Ivan's face changed abruptly. He waved his wand, sending a gust of air that propelled the Talisman into a nearby water pool.
*Boom!*
A silent explosion followed, the unstable Magic within the Talisman completely losing control. The pool water splashed everywhere, making the entire Workshop feel like a light rain.
"Another failure!" Ivan sighed, a thin Magic Barrier flashing around him to keep the water droplets at bay. He then waved his wand again, casting Reparo to clean up the mess.
A few seconds later, everything seemed to return to normal. Ivan fished out the severely damaged Talisman from the pool, shook his head, and tossed it into a box for scrap.
* Ding, after some practice, your Alchemy level has slightly improved. Current level: 6 (8129/16000) *
The System's notification sounded in his mind, but Ivan paid it no attention, feeling rather dejected.
Over the past week, he had conducted many similar experiments, but all of them had failed. He had accumulated a lot of experience from these failures, but not a single successful attempt.
It seemed that channeling intense and pure emotion was even more difficult than he had imagined!
