Chapter 551: Coiling Dragon, Worshipping the Immortal
Chapter 551: Coiling Dragon, Worshipping the Immortal
As Yang Can and Nie Guanshan descended, they couldn't help but call out to Captain Chen.
"Captain Chen, let's go," they said.
Despite their private thoughts, both men maintained a polite demeanor towards Captain Chen, knowing their positions.
During the mission, all external communications were recorded through the interdimensional link, so the more polite they were, the clearer it was that there were no conflicts between them. If any issues arose, it would be considered an unforeseen wartime incident, not their responsibility.
As the three men walked down from the building, a light drizzle began to fall, the rain a faint red color, resembling diluted blood with a hint of corrosiveness.
The insects in the rain initially crashed about chaotically before falling in large patches. Upon reaching the ground, they quickly became drenched by the subsequent rain, writhing and struggling before eventually rotting in the water. Soon, a faint odor of decay permeated the air.
The raindrops that fell on Yang Can and Nie Guanshan were blocked by their protective suits and gilded helmets. Those that occasionally landed on their skin were instantly shaken off, leaving no trace.
The same was true for Chen Chuan; it wasn't a matter of skill but of channeling energy through the body's extremities, an ability that required a deep understanding of one's physical strength.
Even now, Chen Chuan could dive into the water and emerge completely dry, just like He Xiaohang had done before.
As the three men approached, the mercenaries were fleeing towards the outside, but gunshots continued to ring out from behind, and many were struck down by bullets as they ran.
One mercenary, not far from them, was hit in the back of the head, falling with a dull thud at their feet. His skull was almost blown apart, and his blood mixed with the rain, making it difficult to distinguish for a moment.
With such obvious targets, the snipers above couldn't ignore them. Numerous bullets flew towards the three men.
When the bullets hit Chen Chuan and Nie Guanshan, they bounced off their protective suits without penetrating. As they advanced, the sound of bullets clinking on the ground could be heard from time to time.
Realizing that attacking their bodies was futile and most of the mercenaries had escaped, the gunfire from the other side paused for a moment. However, the gun muzzles remained steadily aimed at them.
As they gradually approached, a deep, muffled gunshot echoed between the plaza and the building.
Yang Can quickly raised his hand, and with a swift pinch of his thumb and index finger, he caught a bullet that was just a short distance from his forehead.
Despite the swiftness of his action, it appeared effortless. He then pinched the bullet, now twisted into a flat strip, and dropped it to the ground.
The three men continued walking forward at a steady pace.
Fang Zhixin, standing at the back, looked at Chen Bitong with concern.
He knew that his teacher, having just fought with Lao Hu, must have exhausted himself, especially after quickly repairing his arm, which would have consumed a significant amount of his energy.
The fact that these three individuals were sent at this moment indicated that they were not easy to deal with.
However, Fang Zhixin noticed that one of them was Chen Chuan, and he couldn't help but clench his fist. Chen Chuan's involvement in such a battle was undoubtedly a recognition of his combat abilities by the Defense Department.
At that moment, he could only stand at the back and watch.
As Chen Chuan and his companions approached, they realized that the interdimensional link was crackling in their ears, indicating they could no longer communicate with the outside.
Chen Bitong's convoy had deployed numerous field interference creatures, which were specially tuned to disrupt the unique frequencies and implants of the Temporary Special Action Committee members. The three men, however, were affected as soon as they entered.
Without hesitation, they continued forward, stopping about thirty meters away from Chen Bitong.
They had observed Chen Bitong's movements clearly; although he was moving back and forth through the rift, he mostly stayed within a range of thirty to forty meters, and they estimated that his maximum range wouldn't exceed fifty meters.
This wasn't due to any limitation on his part but rather a strategy to maintain the element of surprise and avoid any obvious signs.
Standing at this distance allowed for both offensive opportunities and a quick retreat if something went wrong, ensuring their safety as a priority.
For Yang Can and Nie Guanshan, it was crucial to achieve victory without risking their lives.
After Chen Chuan stopped, he glanced at Chen Bitong, his gaze then moving past him to the rift behind and the scattered remains of the ancient state religion's cavalry.
Chen Bitong seemed to be preventing the others from entering through the rift, yet he kept it open. What was his intention? As a fighter, Chen Chuan's first thought was that he might be planning to use it to ascend to a higher dimension.
It seems so, but upon further thought, it doesn't feel that simple.
With the current lack of information, it's hard to guess what they're up to.
At this moment, Nie Guanshan took out a document from his uniform pocket, unfolded it, and displayed it to the front, saying solemnly:
"Chen Bitong, we have received orders from the Government Hall and the Defense Department. We ask that you immediately cease all your actions and come with us for questioning. If you refuse, we will have to resort to force."
He knew that under the current circumstances, it was impossible for Chen Bitong to give up, and it was equally impossible for him to follow them back after a few words. But this procedure had to be followed.
Chen Bitong looked at them, his gaze lingering slightly on Chen Chuan, and said in a deep voice, "Gentlemen, just do what's within your duties."
Yang Can spoke up at this moment: "Chen Bitong, I heard you were once a member of the Pioneer Team. That makes you my senior, but you're far more capable than me." He glanced at the spot where Lao Hu had exploded, "At least I've never taken out my own teammates."
Chen Bitong didn't pay attention to his sarcasm, merely giving him a few extra glances.
The rules of the past and present might be slightly different. Those who joined the Pioneer Team were probably not ordinary people; they were the elite of the elite.
He then turned his gaze to Chen Chuan, but before Chen Chuan could say anything, Nie Guanshan continued, "If you're unwilling to surrender, then let's end this conversation here. We have a mission to attend to, and we'll have to excuse ourselves."
Chen Bitong looked at him and said, "Then please be prepared. I won't hold back later."
Yang Can chuckled and said with a playful tone, "Senior, if I were you, I'd worry about myself first. Oh, I heard you have a son? Your only son, right? You used to be a hero, and he must admire you greatly. But what you're doing now, if he finds out, what would he think?"
Chen Bitong remained silent.
