Chapter 550: Gurdurr and the Kung Fu Panda
Chapter 550: Gurdurr and the Kung Fu Panda
On May 29, 201, of the Pokemon League calendar, the three-day summer camp finally came to an end. Professor Oak and Gary set off on the journey back with the children.
Naoki waved goodbye to them, watching as their figures gradually faded into the distance.
It was only when they were completely out of sight that Naoki turned around and went back into the ranch to tidy up.
The incident with Giratina had concluded, and everything returned to normal. Giratina didn't pursue Palkia or Dialga any further and instead secluded itself in the Reverse World, remaining immobile.
It seemed that Giratina was embarrassed after what had transpired with Mewtwo and Arceus, and now it rarely spoke in the Legendary Pokemon chat group.
In fact, Giratina was worried that Mewtwo or Arceus would tell the others about its blunder.
To that end, it secretly observed the group for several days, and whenever a message from Mewtwo or Arceus popped up, Giratina would feel nervous.
Naoki, however, was unaware of all this.
With the events of "The Battle Dimension" and "Giratina and the Sky's Bouquet" concluded, the ultimate boss of this world, Arceus, would soon awaken.
Naoki and his companions were now well-prepared for this encounter.
Considering the cards they had up their sleeves, Naoki believed that even against Arceus, they stood a fighting chance.
Of course, this confidence only extended to the being's avatar within this world.
As far as Naoki knew, Arceus's true body existed beyond the multiverse, quietly observing the development of Pokemon and humanity.
Thus far, in the entire Pokemon series, there had only been one reported sighting of Arceus, and that was in the game "Pokemon: Arceus."
Naoki: "..."
It would be quite awkward if Arceus witnessed them fighting its avatar.
However, that event was still some time away, and Naoki wasn't in a rush. There was no point in hurrying anyway, as Giratina would sense Arceus's awakening, and they could go there together at that time.
For now, he had something even more important to do.
Naoki turned around and looked at the Gurdurr and Pancham that had been following him.
After several months, the once small and petite Pancham had grown taller and stronger, and its spirit and demeanor had also improved significantly.
If Pancham was a mix of steadfastness and cuteness, then Gurdurr exuded a sense of steadiness and reliability befitting a strong Pokemon.
"I wonder what this Gurdurr, trained by Groudon and Kyogre, is capable of."
With these thoughts in mind, Naoki nodded to Gurdurr and said, "Show me what you've learned!"
"Wua!" Gurdurr responded calmly.
Pancham, standing beside it, looked at Gurdurr and then at Naoki, whose eyes shone with appreciation. Pancham's heart suddenly filled with a sour feeling.
However, Naoki, already focused on Gurdurr, didn't notice its emotions.
"Ah gaah..." Pancham shook its head and followed them out.
The group arrived at a clearing in the ranch, and Naoki found an open space and said to Gurdurr, "Let me see the results of your training!"
"Wua!"
Gurdurr nodded slightly and adjusted its stance, assuming a fighting posture.
As Gurdurr extended its fist, a profound and vast aura reminiscent of the deep ocean surged forth from its body.
"Whoosh!"
A sound like flowing water emanated from Gurdurr, and upon closer inspection, its fists were surrounded by watery currents that resembled dragons!
Gurdurr's expression remained unchanged, its gaze calm as it threw a punch forward.
One punch, two punches, a sweeping kick...
At first glance, these moves seemed as tranquil as a calm sea, but they contained a mighty force akin to a tsunami.
The power transformed into a visible fist wind that raced forward and, from over 20 meters away, struck a fruit tree. With a loud crack, the tree trunk exploded!
And that was just the first punch! Naoki knew that Gurdurr's Water-type combo attack would strike three times in succession.
True to Naoki's expectations, Gurdurr unleashed its second punch, its attacks flowing like a rapid river, conveying a sense of hardness and speed.
However, upon seeing that it had damaged a tree in the ranch, Gurdurr quickly changed direction, aiming its remaining two punches at an empty space and restraining its power to avoid causing further destruction.
Gurdurr felt embarrassed about damaging the fruit tree.
It scratched its head and looked at Naoki, "Wua..."
"It's okay, don't worry," Naoki reassured it excitedly. "As long as the seed remains, even if the tree falls, a new one will grow soon enough."
Having witnessed Gurdurr's uniqueness, Naoki marveled at the Pokemon's distinctiveness compared to its peers.
Unlike other Gurdurr, this one's Water-style combo attacks possessed the same momentum as a one-hit Gurdurr, with each of the three strikes landing as critical hits!
"As expected of a Gurdurr trained by Groudon and Kyogre..." Naoki muttered to himself in awe.
By comprehending Kyogre's profound ocean martial arts and repeatedly sparring with a powerhouse like Groudon...
Perhaps it was due to these reasons that this Gurdurr simultaneously exuded Kyogre's profound and vast aura alongside Groudon's sturdy and fierce momentum.
Add to that the dense natural energy of the World Tree and the nourishing Life Sheep Milk, which provided the physical foundation for Gurdurr's rapid progress.
A true holy ash rice dish.
Just thinking about all the factors involved made Naoki exclaim in awe, feeling a sense of terror at the incredible opportunities this Gurdurr had been blessed with. Such a combination of circumstances was unlikely to be replicated for any other Pokemon in the world.
"Amazing!" Naoki applauded Gurdurr's performance.
"Wua!" Gurdurr scratched its head shyly.
It was keenly aware that its achievements were largely thanks to Naoki.
"Wua..." Gurdurr felt deeply touched.
"Yeah, let's continue working hard together from now on!" Naoki smiled and reached out to ruffle Gurdurr's head.
Since evolving, Gurdurr had grown taller, so it lowered its head slightly to make it easier for Naoki to reach.
"Agh..." Golurk, who was nearby, narrowed its eyes at the sight.
It knew this Pokemon was nothing but trouble! Two puffs of white smoke emerged from Golurk's nostrils, and it vowed to ignore Naoki for half an hour! And the reason it was only half an hour was simply because that was as long as Golurk could endure without interacting with him.
Naoki, engrossed in observing Gurdurr, didn't notice Golurk's reaction.
As dusk fell, the sky filled with a smoky haze, and the distant stain-soaked town lit up with lights from the houses.
It was a beautiful day, even without any particular occasion. Whenever Naoki was in a good mood, he felt like it was a day worth celebrating, and he even hummed a tune while cooking dinner.
To commemorate Gurdurr's evolution, Naoki had prepared a sumptuous feast.
There was grilled meat for Golurk, steamed sea bass for the Aerodactyl, green grass buns for the riding goat, carrot candies for the horses, and more.
The variety of dishes filled not only the table but also the floor, resembling a grand banquet.
Perhaps influenced by Naoki's cheerful mood, the Pokemon in the ranch were also in high spirits.
They ran and played in the living room, taking turns lounging on the sofa, playing hide-and-seek upstairs, or sneaking into the kitchen to surprise Naoki from behind.
During dinner, as Naoki sat surrounded by the group of Pokemon, he looked at Gurdurr and asked, "Are you going to sleep at home tonight?"
It had been a long time since Gurdurr last slept at the ranch.
During its training in the World Tree, to make the most of every second, it had either slept at the bottom of Kyogre's ocean or on the edge of Groudon's sword.
Now, hearing Naoki's question, Gurdurr suddenly felt a twinge of nostalgia for its soft little nest.
Thus, Gurdurr nodded in agreement.
After dinner, Naoki prepared some special Pokemon food and set off toward the Reverse World to chat with Giratina.
Meanwhile, Gurdurr made its way to the bedroom, curious to see its old sleeping spot.
However, upon seeing that its small nest could no longer accommodate its larger body, Gurdurr's face fell in dismay.
Gurdurr sat cross-legged on the floor, reaching into the nest to compare sizes, only to find that the nest could only fit its head.
"Wua..." Gurdurr felt conflicted.
Golurk, who had been sulking nearby, immediately forgot its jealousy upon witnessing this scene.
It deliberately jumped onto Naoki's bed and sprawled out, purring to show off to Gurdurr.
"Ah gah~" Golurk purred contentedly. Look at me, I get to sleep with Naoki!
Gurdurr noticed Golurk's display from a distance but didn't quite understand its meaning. It glanced at Golurk briefly before turning back to fiddle with its old nest.
Golurk: "..." Suddenly, it felt a bit deflated.
As night fell, Naoki walked along the small path in the ranch until he reached the edge of the lake, crossing over to Giratina's Reverse World.
On the Isle of Flowers, Giratina lay bored amidst a sea of blossoms, idly scrolling through its phone.
Due to its recent low mood, Giratina had stopped posting on forums, leading its fans to wonder if it had gone offline. They bombarded Giratina with questions about its recent absence.
Rotom Phone was reading fan comments to Giratina.
Giratina listened with half-closed eyes.
Just then, Rotom Phone noticed Naoki approaching and called out, "Naoki's coming, Lotto!"
Giratina's eyes snapped open, and it turned to look at the newcomer.
Naoki jumped onto the floating island where Giratina lay and placed the Pokemon food he was holding in front of it. "Have some."
Giratina grunted in acknowledgment.
Naoki chuckled. "Still thinking about what happened before? Don't worry, Mewtwo and Arceus won't tell anyone about it. They're not that kind of Pokemon."
If it were Ho-Oh, it might be possible.
After all, Ho-Oh would tell its stories to Giratina, and Giratina would then share them with the other Pokemon in the Explorer's Guild, spreading the news throughout the World Tree.
Upon hearing this, Giratina's ears perked up.
"Really?" it asked, intrigued.
Naoki nodded. "Of course. Haven't you noticed that Mewtwo and Arceus rarely speak in the group chat lately?"
"Mewtwo has its reasons, and Arceus is busy searching for meteorites to eat in the ozone layer and space every day."
"And you're not the only Pokemon this has happened to..." Naoki added.
Giratina's interest was piqued.
It eagerly probed, "There are others? Tell me about them! Who else?" It wanted to find a sense of camaraderie.
Naoki hesitated.
Should he really tell it? Wouldn't that be a bit unfair to those Pokemon?
Oh well, to soothe Giratina's wounded pride, they would have to make a sacrifice!
"Do you know about Ho-Oh?" Naoki asked.
Giratina nodded. It knew Ho-Oh, but they weren't close.
"Ho-Oh has a team of four Pokemon known as the Ho-Oh Guard, and one of them, Suicune, was once caught by a human using a fishing net." Naoki explained.
Giratina's face contorted in disbelief.
"Really?!"
"Of course," Naoki nodded. "But that happened in another world. In that world, even Groudon was once hooked by a little human girl fishing!"
"Not only that, there's also a captured Latias, a Lugia that couldn't fly..."
"Compared to them, you're doing just fine. Moreover, those humans specifically researched you and crafted weapons to counter you. On top of that, they attacked you from behind because they were afraid of you. They didn't dare face you directly and could only resort to such underhanded means." Naoki reasoned.
After hearing Naoki's words, Giratina suddenly felt a little better about what had happened to it.
That's right! Naoki was right! It, the great Giratina, had been ambushed by cowards!
If they had faced it head-on, they never would've stood a chance.
With these thoughts, Giratina's confidence returned, and it regained its usual demeanor.
Naoki couldn't help but laugh.
Even though it was a legendary Pokemon that had existed for countless years, its personality was still very childlike!
After some casual conversation, Naoki got down to business.
"Arceus is about to awaken," he said.
Hearing this, Giratina immediately looked up.
It remembered the promise it had made with Naoki: it would help raise the World Tree into the sky, and in return, Naoki would help it teach Arceus a lesson.
But Naoki didn't know that Giratina was well aware of Arceus's formidable power.
Arceus had created this world, and it, Dialga, and Palkia were all created by Arceus.
It would be no easy task to teach a lesson to the god that created the world... Even Giratina only dared to plot behind Arceus's back.
If it faced Arceus's retaliation afterward, the consequences would be dire.
After a moment of silence, Giratina spoke up. "We can forget about that promise. Arceus created this world, and we might not be a match for it. If it bears a grudge against us..."
Naoki was taken aback for a moment, then understood Giratina's concern.
He smiled and said, "Don't worry, I'm fully prepared, and I always keep my promises!"
Super healing abilities and even the power to resurrect the dead—Latias, the Milk Mama; thousands of believers in Latios, King of the Latios tribe; and the peak of Groudon's Primitive Regression...
Add to that the unique backdrop of the movie, and even if they attacked Arceus, it wouldn't hold a grudge against them. In Arceus's eyes, they would simply be trying to stop it from punishing humanity.
With the right time, place, and people, there was no need to worry about retaliation from Arceus.
