Chapter 55: A Chat with Hill
Chapter 55: A Chat with Hill
Jerry brought the last bowl of Tomato and Egg Soup into the living room, just in time to see Miss Berry taking a sparkling Ice Queen Crown out of her bag and handing it to Elsa.
He placed the soup on the table and greeted her with a smile, "Good evening, Miss Berry!"
"Good evening, Jerry! I brought a gift for you too!"
Seeing Jerry, Miss Berry quickly retrieved a guitar case she had prepared from behind a chair.
"I heard from Hass that you've recently taken an interest in guitars, so I bought you a new one!"
For their first meeting, Miss Berry had inquired about Jerry and Elsa’s interests from Hass and spent the whole day carefully selecting these two suitable gifts.
"I like guitars?"
Jerry was momentarily taken aback, but he quickly recalled that to prevent Hass from discovering the guitar case containing a flying broom, he had told Hass that he was very interested in guitars.
"Yes, I've always been fond of guitars. I even taught myself for a while. This gift is perfect!"
Seeing how much Elsa and Jerry loved their gifts, Miss Berry breathed a sigh of relief.
In truth, she was only in her mid-twenties, having graduated from university just three years ago. This was her first time in such a situation, and she was deeply worried that Jerry and Elsa might not like her.
Now, Jerry and Elsa were no longer her students but Hass's children, which made things different.
Fortunately, Jerry and Elsa were very understanding, especially Jerry, who always considered her feelings in his words and actions. As a result, the dinner atmosphere was very harmonious.
For Jerry, Hass, who was almost forty, had taken on the responsibility of raising two children and had managed to find a young and beautiful woman like Miss Berry. It was clear that the goddess of fortune had smiled upon him, and Jerry was more than willing to help.
Elsa, who usually followed Jerry’s lead, was also pleased, especially since Miss Berry had given her an Ice Queen Crown. Who could resist such a gift?
Hass, of course, was the most eager for a happy family, and he worked hard to keep the mood light and cheerful.
Under these circumstances, the dinner was filled with laughter and warmth!
After dinner, everyone sat on the sofa, watching TV and chatting. Miss Berry suddenly suggested to Jerry, "Jerry, why don’t you try out your new guitar? I heard from Hass that you’re quite good at it."
Jerry turned to Hass, who silently gave him a thumbs-up.
In Hass's eyes, Jerry was a genius. Whenever he took an interest in something, he quickly mastered it. He had developed a keen interest in cooking and was now a skilled chef.
Since Jerry had expressed interest in guitars, Hass was confident that he must have become quite proficient.
Seeing Miss Berry’s expectant gaze and Hass’s confident nod, Jerry’s lips twitched.
"Thankfully, I did learn guitar in college in my past life, or I would have been in a real bind today!"
He took out the new guitar from the case and tuned it.
"What song would you like to hear?"
"I want to hear a song about wizards!"
Elsa excitedly raised her small hand.
"A song about wizards?"
Jerry suddenly remembered a catchy tune from his past life and began to strum and sing instinctively:
"You fork fork (singing the sunrise), poor hah (singing the sunset), Mr. Wizard riding his broom, so smooth and so free, while my broom can only clear the garbage heap, what is Happy Planet (poor fork fork)?"
The song ended, and Hass, Miss Berry, and Elsa all froze in place!
It turned out that Jerry also had his weak spots.
"Go wash up and get to bed early. I'll take Miss Berry home, so I might be back a bit late!"
At the door, Hass coughed and explained to Jerry and Elsa.
Miss Berry's face inexplicably turned red.
Jerry instantly understood and added:
"Sure, if it's too late, just find a hotel. Otherwise, opening the door might wake Elsa and me!"
"Thanks for the assist, son!"
Hass's eyes lit up.
"Good point, I won't be back tonight!"
Miss Berry's face flushed all the way to her neck.
"Jerry, Elsa, see you next week!"
She bent down, waved to Jerry and Elsa, and without waiting for Hass, quickly walked towards the elevator.
"Goodbye, Miss Berry!"
Jerry gave Hass a meaningful look, and Hass immediately understood, turning to follow Miss Berry.
"Come on, let's get to bed!"
Seeing Hass and Miss Berry leave, Jerry closed the door and led Elsa to wash up before they each went to their rooms to rest.
At midnight.
Jerry slowly opened his eyes, pulled out the guitar case containing his flying broom and wizard outfit from under the bed, and quietly left the neighborhood.
He had a meeting with the S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, Hill, that evening.
Although he didn't know much about the Marvel universe, he was aware that S.H.I.E.L.D. was the organization responsible for forming the Avengers.
So, he took the visit from S.H.I.E.L.D. very seriously.
However, the special circumstances of the day had led him to reschedule the meeting with the agent.
After changing into his wizard outfit in an empty area, Jerry rode his flying broom to a nearby abandoned warehouse.
He circled the warehouse first, ensuring there were no ambushes, before flying inside.
"I'm truly sorry, I had an urgent matter to attend to during the day."
Seeing Agent Hill standing in the warehouse, Jerry dismounted his flying broom and apologized.
Hill glanced at the flying broom with interest and then shook her head.
"It's fine, my visit was rather spontaneous!"
"Let's get straight to the point. I'm not familiar with your organization. What exactly do you want from me?"
Jerry didn't want to say too much to a professional agent, as it could easily reveal information, so he cut straight to the chase.
"The way you speak suggests you're quite wary of us. Have you heard of S.H.I.E.L.D. before?"
Hill didn't answer directly but asked instead.
"Quite perceptive!"
Jerry shrugged, feigning a helpless expression.
"No, I haven't. I'm just generally wary of government organizations because they always want to know my secrets, which can be dangerous!
Also, don't you think your organization's name is a bit too long?"
"It is a bit cumbersome, but we're working on it!"
Hill suddenly smiled and then softened her tone.
"We don't want to know your secrets. Your actions have caught our attention, and your abilities have the potential to cause harm to society."
"I just accidentally learned some magic and want to do good within my means. How could that harm society?"
Jerry deliberately let a hint of irritation creep into his voice.
