Chapter 549: Modern Alchemy Compendium
Chapter 549: Modern Alchemy Compendium
"This is the book sorting device. You just need to place your wand on the table and speak the name or type of the book you want. The Magic will activate and select the book for you." Nicolas Flamel pointed to the magic podium and explained.
So convenient?
Ivan was quite surprised. This magic podium seemed a lot like a Muggle search engine.
Back at the Black Family Manor, he had been frustrated by the vast number of books and the difficulty in finding what he needed. He hadn't expected that Nicolas Flamel had already solved this problem.
Now, Nicolas Flamel had already drawn his wand, placed it on the magic podium, and began to demonstrate, speaking slowly.
"Type: Advanced Alchemy"
As Nicolas Flamel's voice echoed, a bookshelf on the right side of the room suddenly trembled.
Soon, Ivan saw over a hundred books being extracted from the shelves and flying over, finally landing neatly in five groups on the magic podium with a series of thuds.
Modern Alchemy Compendium, Advanced Enchantment Magic, Research and Application of Runes
Ivan scanned the titles and found that most of these books were new to him. He picked up the Modern Alchemy Compendium and flipped through it. The pages were pristine, and the author's name on the cover was clearly Nicolas Flamel.
"Master, are these books the result of your research?" Ivan looked at Nicolas Flamel, understanding why he couldn't find them elsewhere. It seemed Nicolas Flamel had written these over the years and hadn't shared them publicly.
"Most of them are!" Nicolas Flamel nodded, confirming Ivan's guess. He then waved his wand and said, "Return!"
All the books, except the Modern Alchemy Compendium in Ivan's hands, slowly floated up and returned to their original positions.
"Select the books you want, and the rest can be put back this way. But remember, the Magic only works when the books are placed on the magic podium." Nicolas Flamel turned to Ivan and explained the uses and limitations of the magic podium.
Ivan listened attentively, occasionally asking about the runes etched on the magic podium and what they represented. He planned to install one of these "search engines" at home as well.
After teaching Ivan how to use the magic podium's search function, Nicolas Flamel didn't stay any longer. He gave a few more instructions and then left.
Ivan didn't mind being left alone, as he knew Nicolas Flamel was likely researching the Resurrection Stone.
The allure of a Deathly Hallow for an Alchemical Master was self-evident. It was already impressive that Nicolas Flamel could spare some time each day to answer his questions.
Ivan was realistic. He and Nicolas Flamel were not yet in a formal master-disciple relationship, and the latter had no obligation to teach him.
With this in mind, Ivan moved a chair over, sat down beside a bookshelf, and slowly began to read through the Modern Alchemy Compendium.
Over the next few days, Ivan continued his routine in the Alchemical Cottage: eating, reading, discussing, and sleeping. It was a life of a bookish recluse.
Although there was hardly any space for activities, Ivan found his life to be incredibly fulfilling and comfortable.
He no longer needed to put on a show in front of a group of Imagination Monsters, nor did he have to engage in political maneuvering with those Dark Wizards. Compared to his past, his current life was simply perfect!
Especially after gradually getting used to the new environment, Ivan became less restrained. He gradually moved his reading spot from the library to the living room.
He finally managed to sit comfortably by the fireplace, sipping on Ice Cold Lemonade, slowly turning the pages of his book, and feeling the subtle coolness emanating from the blue flames.
In the scorching summer, Ivan felt that few Wizards in the entire Wizarding World could enjoy such treatment.
However, there were still some troubles. The Alchemy Books in the library were extremely profound and difficult to understand. Even with Ivan's current Alchemy level, studying them was quite challenging.
If it weren't for the numerous academic points he had deliberately saved, which he could use to boost his learning speed with experience cards, he might not have been able to thoroughly study even one book in a few days.
It wasn't until the afternoon of the following week that Ivan finally turned to the last page, completing the knowledge in the alchemy manuscript on the table. He then slowly closed the Modern Alchemy Compendium.
Ivan put down the book and instinctively reached for the glass next to him to take a sip of the cold drink, but he suddenly realized that it was already empty.
"Ukaka, get me another cold drink!" Ivan placed the glass aside and said.
Hearing this, a group of small Alchemical Creatures immediately gathered around, moving like a team of ants, and with great effort, they carried over a jar filled with Lemon Juice. Then, several of them worked together to pour the jar, slowly filling the glass.
"Good job!" Ivan praised with a smile, picking up the glass and taking a sip.
The icy cold Lemon Juice flowed into his mouth, down his throat, and into his stomach, gradually spreading a chill that instantly refreshed his mind, making Ivan feel invigorated.
Reading until he was tired and then drinking a cold drink was simply the most comfortable thing.
Praised by Ivan, the small Alchemical Creatures seemed very happy, shouting "Urrah" randomly as they diligently carried the jar back to the azure fire furnace.
Clearly, this cold drink was made using the fire!
In the early days, Ivan was quite puzzled by this peculiar Magic fire furnace, but after reading so many Alchemy Books, he finally managed to understand its principle.
To put it simply, Nicolas Flamel used certain alchemical runes to invert the temperature of the flames, resulting in this unique appearance.
However, the conversion efficiency was clearly not ideal. When he had cautiously approached it, the temperature of the flames was only a few degrees below zero.
Even so, the functionality of this alchemical array was enough to amaze Ivan. After all, he had studied some physics in high school, so he found it hard to understand how temperature inversion could be achieved.
However, most Magic was difficult to analyze using existing theories.
For example, a man weighing over 200 pounds like Peter Pettigrew could transform into a rat weighing only a few pounds through Animagus Transformation. The significant weight difference meant that the excess mass somehow disappeared or was inexplicably compressed into the rat's body by Magic.
"Mind over matter! If I think it's cold, it will be cold; if I think it's hot, it will be hot!" Ivan tried to explain the problem using a different method. He pointed his wand at the glass, wanting to see if he could turn the cold drink into a hot one.
However, the glass didn't cooperate and exploded immediately, splashing the cold lemon water everywhere and covering Ivan's face.
