Chapter 548: Nicolas Flamel's Library
### Chapter 548: Nicolas Flamel's Library
The next day, very early in the morning.
Ivan yawned as he woke up, turned his head to glance at the clock on the wall, and saw that it was already past eight. He quickly got out of bed, put on his shoes and socks, and prepared to head out.
As he passed by the window, Ivan couldn't help but stop and look outside. The view had changed significantly from the day before.
In the distance, instead of a Wasteland, there were towering skyscrapers. From his current vantage point, he could even see the wide streets with pedestrians and cars speeding by.
Oddly, everything was silent, like a mirage, visible but soundless.
"Is this Paris?" Ivan confirmed this by reading the signs on the shops, muttering to himself in surprise.
But that shouldn't be the case! Yesterday, the distance was still a Wasteland.
Ivan furrowed his brow, suspecting that it might be the effect of some Magic. He then pulled the curtains closed and turned to leave.
After washing up downstairs, Ivan returned to the living room, where Nicolas Flamel was already sitting, sipping his morning tea leisurely.
"Master, good morning!" Ivan greeted as he walked to the chair by the dining table.
"Mm, did you sleep well last night?" Nicolas Flamel gently set down his teacup and asked with a smile.
"Very well!" Ivan nodded. Despite Nicolas Flamel being a Wizard from several centuries ago, the house was anything but outdated. Both the living room and the Bedroom looked modern, and since Ivan didn't have trouble sleeping in new places, he had slept soundly.
However, Ivan was quite curious about the scene he had seen outside the window and couldn't help but ask.
"You can see the city because we are close to the Paris district", Nicolas Flamel explained without hesitation.
To avoid unnecessary disturbances, he had used Magic to hide a section of the area, creating an independent space that was usually isolated from the outside world, making it impossible to see the outside.
Only when someone with the coordinates Apparated in or out, causing a Magic Fluctuation, would the protection be briefly affected, allowing a glimpse of the outside world.
"Was there a guest just now?" Ivan asked.
Nicolas Flamel shook his head and explained that he had gone out to purchase some supplies.
The house wasn't self-sufficient, so he needed to go out every once in a while. He also took the opportunity to see what new gadgets the Muggles had come up with.
Ivan understood and also noticed that Nicolas Flamel seemed very interested in Muggle inventions. There was even a television and a refrigerator in the living room.
"Today in the morning, you can read some books in the library. The books on the third row of shelves should be helpful to you. If you have any questions, I'll answer them in the afternoon", Nicolas Flamel arranged Ivan's schedule for the day.
He had learned from Dumbledore that Ivan was a very disciplined child, so he didn't impose strict rules on what Ivan had to do and when. He simply gave some suggestions.
Ivan nodded in agreement and then pointed to the refrigerator, television, and microwave in the living room, asking tentatively, "Master, I see a lot of Muggle things here. Do they work properly?"
When he first entered the house, Ivan had wanted to ask about it. Finding a bunch of Muggle items in the home of a centuries-old Alchemical Master was quite unusual.
"I've made some enchanted modifications to them. They can function even without electricity. If you get tired of reading, you can watch some television, but remember to control the time", Nicolas Flamel, mistaking Ivan's curiosity for a child's interest in Muggle gadgets, reminded him with a smile.
Ivan pursed his lips. He wasn't particularly interested in French TV shows from the 1990s, but it was surprising to see that Nicolas Flamel had managed to enchant such appliances.
Ivan had long known that Alchemy could transform Muggle technology into Magic Items, like Hagrid's flying motorcycle and the Weasleys' magical car, which were similar products.
However, a television was different. He was very curious about how Nicolas Flamel had solved the signal reception problem.
If such a Magic Television could be created, why hadn't it been widely adopted in the Wizarding World?
Given the lack of entertainment for Wizards, they should have found it irresistible!
"Master, if many Muggle appliances can make our lives more convenient, why aren't they more widespread?" Ivan voiced his confusion, a question that had long puzzled him.
"Transforming an Alchemical Item like this isn't easy! Most Wizarding families can't afford it", Nicolas Flamel shook his head and explained, then continued.
"Additionally, the European Wizarding World is generally conservative. There's a certain bias against Muggle creations, with the belief that widespread adoption of Muggle devices could disrupt the normal order of the Wizarding World."
Despite the increasing number of Half-blood Wizards and those of Muggle descent, the Wizarding World has been gradually changing, with many Wizards' daily lives and clothing habits becoming more Muggle-like.
However, there is still a significant portion of the Wizarding World that adheres to ancient customs and lifestyles, strongly opposing and even hostile towards Muggle items.
These are mostly Pureblood Wizards, forming a large conservative faction. This is partly due to Wizards' discrimination against Muggles and partly to prevent new ideas and innovations from undermining their status.
After hearing Nicolas Flamel's explanation, Ivan gained some insight into the current state of the Wizarding World. In essence, it was a clash between new and old ideas, a conflict that could grow more intense over time.
Ivan had also heard about the Wizarding World's management of Muggle items. In Britain, for instance, the Department of Misuse of Muggle Artifacts was established to prevent illegal modifications of Muggle technology by Wizards.
Notably, the leader of this department was Ron's father, Arthur Weasley.
Arthur, for his own convenience, had intentionally left a loophole in the laws he drafted, allowing Wizards to use Magic to modify Muggle transportation for better travel.
After breakfast, Nicolas Flamel took Ivan to the Library on the first floor.
The space was smaller compared to the Black Family Underground Library, but the books were packed more tightly. A quick glance revealed layers of bookshelves that made Ivan's head spin.
At the front of the Library stood a magic podium, adorned with numerous Runic Inscriptions that were incomprehensible. He wondered what its purpose was.
