Chapter 546: The Essence of Magic and the Ultimate Creations of Alchemy
### Chapter 546: The Essence of Magic and the Ultimate Creations of Alchemy
"Because the wand, spell, and gesture are not important. They are merely aids for casting! What truly matters is magic, or rather..." Ivan muttered to himself.
After witnessing Nicolas Flamel's casting demonstration, he finally understood the meaning behind the other man's words. However, years of materialistic education had made it difficult for him to articulate his conclusion.
"Magic is the heart! It is the manifestation of a wizard's thoughts and will", Nicolas Flamel said, watching the pigeon fly into the sky, answering for him.
"Using mind over matter in the world?" Ivan listened to this answer. Although he had thought of it earlier, he still found it hard to accept.
Such a mind-centric view would have been laughed at and criticized if he had openly expressed it in his previous life.
However, Ivan was well aware that he was now a wizard, and this was the Wizarding World, where there was ample evidence to support this notion!
"Hmm, mind over matter?" Nick repeated, finding it quite intriguing. It sounded a bit like the rhetoric of Muggles, but it was surprisingly fitting.
"Ha! You could say that! What makes magic so remarkable is that it can turn one's wishes into reality!" Nick walked slowly back to the wooden desk, his gaze fixed on Ivan, and said with a tone of reflection.
Ivan took a deep breath after a long pause.
"This is truly incredible!"
Ivan felt as if he were experiencing the Wizarding World for the first time, with the mysterious veil of magic slowly lifting before his eyes.
At the same time, Nicolas Flamel's words had resolved a question that had long troubled him: why young witches and wizards would subconsciously display various extraordinary abilities during a Magic Surge.
Now, Ivan understood that the surge of active magic during such an event would manifest the various thoughts in a young witch or wizard's mind. The sheer magnitude of this power was beyond their control, often leading to unintended destruction.
Ivan, who had experienced multiple Magic Surges, was well aware that the sudden increase in magic was difficult to manage and use effectively.
Only in Protection Mode could he easily control his magic, casting spells with near-perfect precision within a specific range.
With this in mind, Ivan asked curiously,
"Mr. Flamel, if wizards can cast without any aids, what is the purpose of learning spells and gestures? Is it to help us control our magic more effectively?"
The three steps of casting were a mandatory course for almost every wizard, clearly indicating their importance.
Considering Nick's earlier explanation, Ivan believed that it was likely because most wizards could not freely control their magic and thus needed these steps as a guide.
Ivan shared his various theories, but Nick shook his head and smiled, saying that his understanding was not entirely accurate.
The casting steps that the Wizarding World had painstakingly researched, summarized, and disseminated to every wizard over thousands of years were not just for guidance; each step had its own unique purpose!
The wand was responsible for channeling magic and reducing the difficulty of casting, while gestures and spells made the effects of magic more precise!
"Without these casting steps, most wizards in the Wizarding World would be unable to use their powers. While the idea of free casting and achieving one's desires sounds simple, there is probably not a single wizard who can truly do it!" Nick sighed deeply.
"Even you and Professor Dumbledore can't achieve it?" Ivan couldn't help but feel a bit surprised. In his view, Nicolas Flamel and Dumbledore were already quite close to this state, capable of effortlessly casting Magic without a wand or spell.
"Of course not, we're still far from it!" Nicolas Flamel admitted frankly, "If anyone could fully control Magic, they would be a god!"
A god? Ivan pursed his lips, thinking that Nicolas Flamel was exaggerating a bit. But then again, if someone could make anything happen by mere thought, wouldn't they be a god?
"Mr. Flamel, what about Alchemy? You haven't told me what Alchemy is yet", Ivan quickly recalled the main focus of their conversation and hurriedly asked.
"Alchemy, like Magic, ultimately involves the use of Magic!" Nick began to explain.
In Ancient Times, Casters discovered that directly controlling Magic was extremely difficult, and the vast majority of people couldn't do it. So, they began experimenting with various external methods to harness Magic.
The three main schools were Magic, which relies on wands, spells, and gestures to precisely control Magic; Potions, which extract essences from magical materials to create potions; and Alchemy, which uses Runic Inscriptions to convert and manipulate Magic.
However, after thousands of years of development, these three schools are not entirely separate; there is a lot of overlap between them.
For example, some advanced potion blending processes require the use of a wand, and certain Magic can enchant items, achieving effects similar to Alchemy.
"These three schools each have their strengths, all aimed at using Magic to achieve their goals", Nicolas Flamel concluded.
Hearing this, Ivan was struck with immense awe. His understanding of Magic, potions, and Alchemy had never been as clear as it was today!
Ivan looked at the man before him, who was over six hundred years old, and was deeply impressed by his knowledge and wisdom. He was also very grateful.
This kind of secret knowledge was something he had never read in books. If not for Nicolas Flamel's explanation, he would have had to guess and stumble his way through, potentially taking many wrong turns.
If before, Ivan had no idea how to advance from Sixth-Level Magic to Seventh-Level Magic, now he had some ideas.
"Sir, you've told me about the ultimate form of Magic. What about Alchemy?" Ivan couldn't contain his curiosity and asked.
"The end goal of these three schools is essentially the same; the difference lies in the methods used to reach that goal", Nicolas Flamel explained.
After a pause, Nicolas Flamel seemed hesitant, unsure if it was a good idea to tell Ivan now.
But he quickly realized that even if he didn't say anything, this clever young witch or wizard would figure it out soon enough. He shook his head and spoke slowly and deliberately.
"Alchemy has its own path to the ultimate goal, and that is the Alchemical Constructs and the Philosopher's Stone!"
"Philosopher's Stone?!" Ivan's face showed surprise as he looked at Nicolas Flamel, hardly believing it.
Ivan had once held the Philosopher's Stone in his hands, but it was taken by Dumbledore when he fell into a coma.
Ivan couldn't help but feel a mix of absurdity and heartache. He never imagined that the ultimate goal of Alchemy was so close to him.
