Chapter 544: Lockhart's Bravery
Chapter 544: Lockhart's Bravery
"It's bad," George said wearily as he sat down next to Wood. "The new Nimbus 2001 brooms that the Slytherin team got are just too fast. There's no way our Cleansweep brooms can catch up."
"Sometimes, the Slytherin players are so fast they're just seven blurry pale green shadows," Fred added.
Ever since the Slytherin team got their new brooms, Fred and George had been secretly scouting them, reporting the latest intelligence to Wood and the team.
Wood's face was grim. Faced with the advantage of the new brooms, they were helpless.
The Malfoy family had the money to gift the Slytherin players with Nimbus 2001 brooms, while they were still using old models like the Comets and Sweepers—there was no way they could compete in terms of speed.
"That Malfoy kid got into the team just by spending money," Angelina said with thinly veiled disgust. "His skills are far inferior to Harry's. Harry, you must beat him on the field."
"I will beat him," Harry said firmly, his fists clenched. "I definitely will."
"Don't worry, the Nimbus 2001 is indeed very fast, but we can definitely beat them with tactics," Wood consoled, taking a deep breath. "Terence Higgs is an excellent Seeker, far better than that half-baked Malfoy. It's actually a good thing that he's been replaced."
In the end, they still didn't come up with a good solution. The Nimbus 2001 brooms of the Slytherin team were a nightmare for the players from the other houses.
Even before the start of the match, the Slytherin team, true to their house style, had used their financial advantage to secure a significant lead.
"Do you think we can win the Quidditch Cup this year?"
After the discussion, George glumly asked Albert, who was reading 'Walking with Giants'.
"Draco Malfoy's actions are very Slytherin-like, and he's not breaking any Quidditch rules," Albert said slowly. "In a way, what they're doing is completely reasonable, and I would do the same in their position. In fact, if you had the opportunity, I'm sure you would too."
"So you're saying we have no chance of winning," Fred said, even more glumly. They had suffered a lot because of this, and sometimes, not having money was a big problem.
"Of course, there's hope."
"What hope?"
"As long as you can beat Slytherin and the other teams, can't you win the Quidditch Cup this year?" Albert said, stating the obvious.
"Isn't that just common sense?" Fred and George couldn't help but retort.
"Alright, cheer up, the show is about to start," said Lee Jordan, popping the last piece of bread into his mouth and leaning over. He winked at the Weasley twins.
"The show...you don't mean...?" George guessed what Lee Jordan meant by the 'show'.
"When did you...?"
Fred's surprise quickly turned to disbelief. "Damn, you didn't wait for us?"
"It's not like it's a difficult task," Albert said, giving the angry twins a strange look. "Why would so many people be needed?"
"Do you think he'll be like I was, hiding under the bed and not coming out?" Lee Jordan raised his head to look at the staff table, but he didn't see Professor Lockhart come down for dinner.
Albert wasn't sure, as his knowledge of love potions was limited.
"I just met Professor Lockhart, and he looked a bit strange," said Sandra as she sat down and talked to Alicia about the strange things they had encountered on the way.
"Strange?"
Before Sandra could answer, there was a commotion outside the Great Hall, and many students ran out to see what was going on.
The entrance hall soon filled up, with students pouring out of the Great Hall to see what was happening. Many others crowded on the marble staircase, and the onlookers formed a large circle.
"Age is not a problem. Wait, don't go, let's talk," Albert heard as he squeezed through. He saw Lockhart holding a girl's hand affectionately, begging pitifully, not wanting her to leave.
The girl, with a look of bewilderment, panic, and a bit of impatience on her face, stood in stark contrast to the surrounding students who were staring in amazement.
"He seems quite different from you," said Fred, George, and Albert in unison, turning to look at Lee Jordan. The effects of the love potion on Lockhart were quite different from what Lee Jordan had experienced.
"Maybe it's because the dosage of the love potion was smaller," Albert finally concluded. Compared to Lee Jordan, Lockhart was indeed relatively normal.
"Professor, what's wrong with you?"
Facing Lockhart's advances, Quinn Greengrass had no choice but to look at her female companions for help, but no one could offer any assistance.
"Oh my, Professor Lockhart, what are you doing?"
Professor McGonagall appeared in the entrance hall and pushed her way through the crowd. Seeing the dramatic confession unfold, her usually stern face couldn't help but show surprise and bewilderment.
"Lockhart seems to be under the influence of a hallucinatory charm or a love potion," said Professor Snape, appearing at Professor McGonagall's side and eyeing Lockhart with interest. His gaze then fell on the Slytherin girl, and he frowned and asked, "Miss Greengrass, what did you do to Professor Lockhart?"
"Professor, I didn't do anything," Quinn Greengrass said tearfully. "I really don't know what's going on."
"Don't bully her," Lockhart said, his face turning red. He turned and threw a punch at Snape.
Snape was caught off guard, and Lockhart's punch landed squarely on his face. He almost fell to the ground, leaving all the students around them stunned.
This dramatic scene was truly entertaining.
Especially for the Gryffindor students, who couldn't help but cheer excitedly.
"Lockhart, you..." Professor McGonagall was also stunned by Lockhart's actions. She didn't understand why Lockhart would punch Snape, but there was no doubt that something was amiss.
Snape's face twisted with anger after being punched. He steadied himself, drew his wand, and froze Lockhart, who was about to lunge at him again, in mid-air. Lockhart fell backward with a loud thud.
"I suddenly realized that love can make people so brave," Albert murmured, watching Lockhart on the ground.
This would definitely go down as one of Snape's most embarrassing moments. It was truly amusing.
