Chapter 542: The Generous Fellow Lu Chen
Chapter 542: The Generous Fellow Lu Chen
Lu Chen approached the pile of demonic beast carcasses on the ground and carefully examined them, trying to discern their origins.
"Brother Lu, are you curious about the origin of these beasts?" asked Sun Yunming, his eyes narrowing as he noticed Lu Chen's puzzled expression.
"Perhaps it's because I rarely leave the sect, but these demonic fowl seem vaguely familiar, yet vastly different from what I've encountered before," Lu Chen replied, his brow furrowed in thought.
"It's understandable that you'd find them peculiar. These demonic fowl have undergone transformation," Sun Yunming explained. "Extrinsic demon spirits breached the spatial barriers and infiltrated this realm. They often carry a potent corrupting influence, and their demonic aura can alter the forms and instincts of beasts and fowl, making them stronger, more bloodthirsty, and aggressive, while diminishing their intellect."
"I see," Lu Chen said, enlightenment dawning on him. "No wonder those demonic fowl showed no fear of death, even as they were on the brink of annihilation."
"Brother Lu, the most valuable parts of these fowl are their claws and fangs," Meng Yue, with her gentle demeanor, pointed out as she joined them and gestured at the mutilated, bloody carcasses on the ground. "They are extremely hard and sharp, capable of easily piercing the physical bodies of Foundation Establishment cultivators. They can fetch a good price in Black Star City."
"Additionally, the fleshy tumors on their heads are also quite prized among unorthodox cultivators," she added.
"You three can have those claws, fangs, and tumors," Lu Chen said with a smile. "All I need is some of their flesh and blood."
While the most valuable parts for other cultivators were the claws, fangs, and tumors, Lu Chen had a different perspective. To him, the most abundant and often overlooked parts—the flesh and blood—were the true treasures. The essence of the demonic fowl's flesh and blood could be used to cultivate underworld spirit herbs and feed the Fleshly Spirit Gods. By the time he harvested the light orbs, their value would far surpass that of mere claws and tumors.
"Ah?" The three of them exclaimed in unison, their faces reflecting their surprise at Lu Chen's words.
In their previous teams, cultivators would scramble for the most precious parts of the demonic beasts after slaying them, sometimes even leading to disputes. But here was Lu Chen, willingly turning down those treasures.
"It took our combined efforts to vanquish these demonic fowl, and we all share equal credit," Lu Chen explained. "Moreover, it's a bit troublesome for me to process these materials. It would be more convenient to just sell the flesh and blood of the demonic beasts directly."
"I also have a few spiritual beasts in my cave abode, and they have enormous appetites. So, I'll need a substantial amount of demonic beast essence," he added, improvising a reason to conceal the true nature of his preferences.
"In that case, I won't be rude and will gladly accept your offer," said the thin and elderly Sun Yunming. Among the four of them, he had the most humble background, and cultivating resources were the hardest to come by for him. Now that Lu Chen had made his stance clear, he quickly agreed without hesitation.
"Fellow Lu, you are truly generous and open-handed," one of them said, gratitude evident in his eyes.
"Indeed, I am most grateful," added another.
The three of them couldn't help but feel a sense of appreciation toward Lu Chen for his generosity in leaving them with valuable cultivation resources. This act of selflessness brought them closer together, even though they had only recently formed a team and were still strangers just a day ago. Even the usually stoic Qiu Changyuan wore a faint smile on his face.
Out of gratitude, the three of them left ten relatively intact demonic fowl carcasses for Lu Chen.
Lu Chen happily accepted them and proceeded to cut up the carcasses, storing them in his storage bag. He planned to transfer them to the Gluttonous Bug Pouch once he returned to the courtyard.
"It's a pity that we have company. It wouldn't be appropriate to use the Soul Luring Lamp to collect their souls. We can only let the souls of these demonic fowl dissipate."
He thought to himself.
The four continued to fly at low altitude along the edge of Black Star City.
Nothing out of the ordinary happened next.
Three days passed in the blink of an eye. Lu Chen had been spending most of his time with Qiu Changyuan and the others, and he hadn't had the time to return to Black Star City.
During this period, they occasionally encountered a few transformed demonic beasts that were not very strong. With Lu Chen and Qiu Changyuan's strength, along with Meng Yue and Sun Yunming's rich combat experience and unique skills, they easily dealt with the beasts.
Only once did Meng Yue suffer a minor injury while fighting a fourth-grade transformed demonic beast, but she quickly healed after taking a healing pill.
Despite the lack of incidents, Lu Chen remained cautious. He kept the fifth-grade Grand Yin Thunder Talisman and several fourth-grade sword talismans ready for use at any moment.
One day, as he was patrolling with the others, he subtly glanced at the ground below.
With his keen spiritual sense, he detected slight movements deep underground. Extending his spiritual sense further, he discovered several bloated, ugly, and ferocious giant insects scurrying through the rocks at incredible speed.
The giant insects moved with an agility that belied their bulky forms, and the speed at which they moved through the rocks was almost silent. If not for Lu Chen's exceptionally powerful spiritual sense, it would have been extremely difficult to detect their presence.
One hundred zhang.
Lu Chen glanced slightly upward at the three of them; they showed no signs of noticing the giant insects.
Fifty zhang.
"It's too quiet around here. Something's amiss. Everyone, be on guard."
He transmitted his warning to the three of them.
Twenty zhang.
"Brother Lu, don't..."
Qiu Changyuan, confident in his own spiritual sense, was about to turn and reassure Lu Chen.
But suddenly, the giant insects lurking underground accelerated, and before Qiu Changyuan could finish his sentence, a deep yellow tentacle shot out, carrying with it a storm of yellow sand as it struck like lightning toward Qiu Changyuan, who was at the front of the group.
"Watch out!"
Lu Chen shouted.
The Wind and Thunder Sword in his hand danced, and a sword qi shot out.
With a crisp ring, the sword qi instantly transformed into the form of an ancient fierce bird, the Thousand Hawk. The dense sword qi formed transparent wings, and with a fierce sword intent, it charged into the deep yellow tentacle.
"Roar!"
The deep yellow tentacle was twisted by the Thousand Hawk sword qi, shattering into countless pieces in midair, mixing with the swirling yellow sand and fragments.
The ugly giant insect, hidden underground and undetected by the three, let out a painful roar as it was injured. The resulting sound waves caused the surrounding rocks to continuously collapse.
An ugly giant insect with countless limbs resembling infant arms drilled out from the deep soil, its grayish-white eyes filled with intense hatred as it stared at the four of them.
"Thank you, Brother Lu."
Everything happened too suddenly. It was only after the deep yellow tentacle was destroyed by Lu Chen's Thousand Hawk sword qi that the three of them reacted.
Qiu Changyuan moved closer, his face showing a trace of lingering fear as he said, "That was too close."
The giant insect's ability to lurk was indeed too powerful. He had only sensed it when the tentacle appeared.
But the attack had been too fast, and it was difficult to react correctly in such a short time. If not for Lu Chen's rescue, he might have suffered serious injuries.
"Let's deal with these demonic insects first. There might be more inside."
Lu Chen said coldly.
