Chapter 542: Declaration of War
Chapter 542: Declaration of War
From the ambush on the Hero Association's higher-ups and the capture of important personnel as hostages to the current gathering of the Monster Association and their planning for the next step, it was all orchestrated by Sykes, with the ultimate goal of declaring war on the Hero Association!
Feng Ye tacitly approved of this plan.
After all, they now had ample materials to supply the Evolution of the God Tree, Pain. And the other condition for evolution was intense battle, pushing oneself to the limit in combat and breaking through those restrictions to ascend to a higher plane of existence.
Ordinary battles would hardly scratch the God Tree, Pain, so a large-scale conflict was necessary—
And now, it had begun.
"In other words, with those hostages, the Hero Association won't be able to launch a large-scale missile strike on us directly. They must prioritize rescuing the hostages, which means they'll have to come to the location we've prepared and fight us there... A clever strategy."
The Emperor of Homelessness leaned back, his arms folded across his chest.
Hero, sitting across from him, stared with his four black eyes and leaned back in his chair. "So, it's time to declare war openly. Do you want me to deliver the declaration?"
"No need," Sykes replied, controlling the Big Eyed-Emperor. "I've planned everything. The declaration of war will begin shortly, and we can expect an all-out assault from the Hero Association. Perhaps all the S-class heroes will show up, but with the power gathered here, we won't be at a disadvantage."
At Sykes' words, the monsters on both sides of the table reacted with varying expressions.
Black Sperm lounged casually on the table. "That's all well and good, but among the S-class heroes, there's that Thunder God, and the Bald Emperor. I've heard they possess god-like combat strength. You're not planning to use us as cannon fodder, are you? Waiting for us to die so you and that self-proclaimed Monster King can reap the benefits?"
Black Sperm's words caught the attention of several monsters, and some of them shot suspicious glances at the Big Eyed-Emperor, their gazes turning unfriendly.
Unperturbed by the hostile stares of several Dragon-level monsters, the Big Eyed-Emperor remained calm. "The Thunder God and the Bald Emperor will be dealt with by the Monster King. Of course, if any of you wish to challenge the Monster King, he won't shy away from your challenge..."
As the Big Eyed-Emperor's voice trailed off, a glimmer of light suddenly appeared in the shadow behind him. A colossal solitary eye materialized in the void, and then a massive body emerged from the pitch-black shadow. Ten tails waved in the air like tentacles, and a suffocating, oppressive aura slowly spread, causing the atmosphere in the entire hall to freeze.
Black Sperm, Hero, the Emperor of Homelessness, Ugly Big-Head President... All the Dragon-level monsters present felt a strong sense of oppression, their gazes fixed and unblinking.
The ten-tailed form of the God Tree, Pain, writhed and took a step forward. With each step, its body shrank slightly until it reached the right side of the Big Eyed-Emperor, where it had completely transformed into a humanoid shape.
"Are you..."
"...challenging me?"
The God Tree, Pain, raised its head, its gaze sweeping the room with an air of superiority. Its voice was cold and indifferent.
Black Sperm, who had been lounging on the table, shrunk back a little and mumbled, "So, you're the One-Eyed Emperor, the Monster King of the Monster Association. In that case, I have no objections."
"What about the rest of you?" Sykes asked through the Big Eyed-Emperor, looking at the other monsters.
Hero and the others exchanged glances, feeling the suppression of their life forces, and then returned to their seats.
At this moment, the God Tree, Pain, had devoured the life forces of the giant snake and Boros, completing a small step in its transformation. Its life force was now slightly higher than that of Lilith, and the Monster Cells within it had become exceedingly powerful!
This was the life force of a god-level monster!
Of course, it wasn't enough yet. Compared to its original body, it was still more than ten times weaker, so it had to dig deep and unlock its full potential to make a true quantum leap and catch up to the life force of its original body!
"Since there are no objections, let's proceed with the plan. Our decisive battle with the Hero Association will take place in three days. You may all return to your rest." Sykes, through the Big Eyed-Emperor, spoke calmly.
Hero and the others exchanged glances once more, then left the hall without further comment, disappearing into the corridors.
After confirming that all the Dragon-level monsters had left, the body of the Big Eyed-Emperor twitched, and then split down the middle.
Using the hostages to decide the battlefield in Z-City's unpopulated area aligned with Feng Ye's idea, as fighting there would minimize damage to human inhabited zones.
Although he could directly eliminate all the Dragon-level monsters and then challenge Saitama alone to achieve this effect, it would be rather dull.
On the path to ultimate evolution,
there's a need for an audience.
Otherwise, evolving towards the supreme direction of life would be meaningless.
...
At the Hero Association headquarters.
The capture of Saman, one of the association's directors, had caused quite a stir, shaking the entire Hero Association! On one hand, Saman himself was the Hero Association's fourth-largest investor and one of its important shareholders. On the other hand, Saman's capture also made the other investors anxious and nervous.
They were all once high and mighty figures.
Residing in the safest part of the association headquarters, they always had at least an A-Class hero or higher as an escort, so in theory, there shouldn't have been any danger to their lives. But now, a problem had emerged!
Although they didn't care about Saman's life, the fact that he had been captured by monsters meant that the same could happen to them!
"How did you let this happen!"
"How dare they put one of our investors in such grave danger! Do you still expect to receive investments from us in the future?!"
Several directors of the Hero Association berated the supervisors, including Sitch, their faces flushed with anger as they slammed their fists on the table.
"Still no news about Saman?"
"Can we safely rescue him?!"
Question after question bombarded them, leaving Sitch's expression grim as he struggled to respond.
Just then, the door burst open, and a staff member rushed in, his forehead beaded with cold sweat. "Sorry to interrupt! I just received some news. It's from the monsters who captured Saman. Their actions are organized and deliberate, and they've sent us a video!"
"A video?"
Sitch furrowed his brows.
The staff member's forehead glistened with sweat as he explained, "Yes, the video has been forwarded, and we can play it here."
Sitch glanced at the other high-ranking members of the association in the room and clicked on the projection, displaying the sent video.
Whoosh!
A projection appeared above the conference table, showing the Big Eyed-Emperor floating in mid-air, seated on a stone chair, looking down at what lay before him.
"Greetings to the Hero Association," the Big Eyed-Emperor began, "I am Big Eye, the strategist of the Monster Association... First, I bring you some good news. The hostage is still alive."
"However, he won't stay that way."
"As an investor of the Hero Association, his funding has contributed to the association's development and resulted in the deaths of countless monsters, making him a heinous criminal."
"In three days' time, at 2:00 pm, we, the Monster Association, will execute him publicly at our headquarters—the Z-City unpopulated area, as you call it."
"If you wish to participate in the execution ceremony, then prepare yourselves. You are welcome to disrupt the proceedings."
"Finally, on behalf of the Monster Association, we solemnly declare war on the Hero Association!"
"So."
"I wish you luck."
With those final words, the projection froze and then vanished with a crackling sound.
Silence fell upon the room.
The only sound that could be heard was the breathing of those present.
The faces of the directors underwent a range of emotions. Although they didn't care about Saman's life, they couldn't afford to sit idly by. If they did, then when they were captured in the future, no one would come to their rescue.
After a moment of silence,
Agni, the major shareholder sitting in the central position, stood up and slowly said, "Since the Monster Association has declared war on us, we cannot afford to do nothing. Moreover, we must ensure the safe rescue of Mr. Saman."
"Issue a call to arms."
"To all heroes ranked B-Class and above!"
