Chapter 541: The Looming Largest War
Chapter 541: The Looming Largest War
Just as Feng Ye turned his attention back to his computer, his phone rang.
A smile appeared on Feng Ye's face as he glanced at his phone, a deep gleam flashing in his eyes as if he already knew who it was. Nonetheless, he answered the call.
"Mr. Thor!"
"Emergency!"
An urgent voice came from the other end of the line. Sich, the manager of the Hero Association, sounded anxious: "Mr. Saman, one of the Association's shareholders, has been attacked by a monster. The situation there is very dire..."
Feng Ye sat on the sofa, picked up a cup of water from the table, and took a sip before casually responding, "Saman? Aren't S-class heroes supposed to provide exclusive escorts for shareholders' travels recently? A mere monster shouldn't be a concern."
Due to the Hungry Wolf's attack on the Hero Association and Feng Ye's handling of all recent demon-level and above disasters, most S-class heroes' tasks had shifted to providing protection for key members of the Hero Association.
In the Association's monitoring hall, Sich, who was already watching the intense battle unfold on the screens, said anxiously, "That's right. Mr. Saman was also escorted by the Vestment Master, but an abnormally large number of monsters appeared this time, and they are quite powerful and seem well-organized. The Vestment Master is struggling to handle them alone!"
"Alright, I understand."
Feng Ye tilted his head slightly and then hung up the phone, a deep glint flashing in his eyes.
...
Around the same time.
City C.
On the streets of the city.
Chaos reigned as the S-class hero Vestment Master, identifiable by his vest, engaged in a fierce battle with two monsters, both of which were at the demon level!
Apart from these two monsters, others could be seen running down the street, chasing after a man in a branded suit who was fleeing for his life.
"Get out of my way! Move, you civilians... I don't want to be killed by those monsters!"
The well-dressed man shouted frantically at the panicked crowd blocking his path, but no one paid him any heed as everyone was desperately running for safety.
Saman, breathless and scared, caught a glimpse of the pursuing monsters drawing closer from the corner of his eye. Fear flashed in his eyes, and he burst forward with all his might, taking two more strides before grabbing a civilian in front of him and throwing them behind as a decoy.
"Ahhh..."
The civilian cried out in terror, their eyes reflecting sheer disbelief at Saman's action.
Expecting to be killed at any moment, the running monsters completely ignored the civilian and focused solely on Saman. In just a few strides, they reached him, and one of them grabbed him with its pincers and lifted him off the ground.
"Ahh, damn it! Go kill those useless civilians!"
Saman's eyes widened in sheer terror as the monsters ignored the bystanders and zeroed in on him. He struggled with all his might.
However, the monster paid no heed and struck him with a hammer, knocking him unconscious. Then it turned to its companion and said, "Mission accomplished. Let's retreat."
"Shouldn't we cause some more destruction? I'm not done playing yet."
"Retreat! This is Big Eye's order!"
The crab monster spoke in a low voice and quickly ran toward the sewer, smashing through the manhole cover and disappearing underground.
The other two monsters hesitated for a moment, glancing at each other before turning their attention to the fleeing civilians.
Their faces contorted into malicious grins.
But.
In the next moment, their expressions froze.
A dazzling silver light descended from the sky, slicing through the street and coming to a halt not far from them.
Within the silvery light stood Feng Ye, bathed in a radiant glow that transformed into arcs of electricity dancing in the air around him.
Whoosh! !
The two monsters' bodies froze, and dense bloodlines appeared all over them before they disintegrated into pieces, their purple blood splattering on the ground.
"Wonderful! The strongest hero has arrived!"
The fleeing civilians, upon witnessing Feng Ye's appearance and swift disposal of the two monsters, heaved a sigh of relief and halted their escape.
Not far from Feng Ye, the civilian whom Saman had thrown towards the monsters earlier, gradually regained his composure, the fear fading from his eyes as he stood up.
He glanced at the broken sewer entrance.
While those in front of him hadn't seen what happened, he had caught a glimpse of Saman being captured by the monsters. Recalling Saman's action of grabbing and throwing him at the monsters, a hint of hesitation appeared on his face.
However, after a brief moment of uncertainty, he looked towards Feng Ye, intending to alert him about the kidnapped civilian.
But just then, Feng Ye's figure vanished with a crackling sound, teleporting through several streets and arriving at the Vestment Master's battlefield.
He appeared before one of the two monsters besieging the Vestment Master, his demeanor calm as he threw a punch enveloped in lightning. The punch struck the demon-level monster, causing its body to explode and perish on the spot.
"Oh! Thanks a lot!"
The Vestment Master's spirits lifted at this sight, and he thanked Feng Ye before grinning at the remaining demon-level monster, "You two were quite fierce just now..."
With one monster taken care of, the Vestment Master unleashed his full power, pushing back the remaining demon-level monster with punch after punch.
Feng Ye didn't intervene.
He stood by, watching the Vestment Master's battle unfold until he heard the Hero Association manager's voice in his earpiece, "Mr. Thor! Emergency! Mr. Saman has been captured by the monsters!"
"Location."
Feng Ye raised his hand to his earpiece, his tone composed.
Sich's voice came through, strained, "It's in the sewer, but we've lost the location. There are no surveillance cameras down there, so we can't pinpoint the exact position anymore."
Feng Ye's eyebrows furrowed, "I can't possibly turn over the entire city's sewer system, nor can I throw lightning bolts down there. Determine the location first, then inform me."
Leaving those words hanging, Feng Ye cut off the communication. He glanced downwards, a faint smile playing at the corners of his mouth.
...
Around the same time.
Beneath Z City, in the Monster Association Headquarters.
Here, a spacious hall housed an elliptical table at its center, with various monsters seated on either side.
If the Child Emperor were present, his life force monitoring device would detect that each of these monsters had reached the dragon-level!
At one end of the round table.
There was a pitch-black shadow, obscuring whatever lay within, and at the edge of this shadow, close to the table, sat the large eyeball monster controlled by Sikes.
Above the table, a projection displayed two scenes: one of the Vestment Master's battle on the streets of C City, and the other of the monster carrying Saman deeper into the sewers.
"Then..."
"The first step of our plan has been accomplished. We've captured a key member of the Hero Association as a hostage. With this hostage, we will control the Hero Association's next move, and they won't dare launch large-scale aerial or long-range attacks for fear of endangering the captive. If they want to rescue him, they'll have to come to us."
The large eyeball monster gazed at the projection, its voice deep and resonant, "Now, it's time to declare war on the Hero Association!"
