Chapter 540: Chu Mo Island (Six)
Chapter 540: Chu Mo Island (Six)
[Please select one of the following options to answer.] The system voice sounded at the appropriate moment.
Simultaneously, a window appeared before every player’s eyes, displaying five options alongside brief descriptions:
[Edient, the God of Folly] A colossal Destroyer wielding a Spiked Mace, belonging to the Chaotic Evil Faction. His followers are irritable, malicious, autocratic, violent, and thrive on conflict. Driven by greed, hatred, or desire, they act impulsively and recklessly, spreading evil and confusion. They not only destroy beauty and life but also the Order that sustains beauty and life.
[Ifer, the God of Lies] The gloomy King of Scythes, belonging to the Neutral Evil Faction. His followers will do anything for personal gain—it’s all about themselves, plain and simple. They never shed tears for those they kill, whether for wealth, pleasure, or convenience. They despise discipline and reject laws, traditions, or noble beliefs. Their terror lies in absolute evil, devoid of honor or discrimination—true evil.
[Wokol, the Wandering God] The Master of Disguise wielding a Rapier, belonging to the Chaotic Neutral Faction. His followers are extreme individualists who evade authority, hate restrictions, and challenge traditions. They are not irrational but lack fixed stances, acting on whims—true confusion.
[Wisden, the God of Wisdom] The Supreme of Arcane Arts wielding a Scepter, belonging to the Neutral Good Faction. His followers strive to do what a good person should. They willingly help others and work for those in power but do not consider themselves controlled. They need not obey orders blindly and remain impartial—true good.
[Tyrus, the God of Truth] The Holy Monarch wielding a Giant Sword, belonging to the Lawful Good Faction. His followers uphold strict discipline and confront evil without hesitation. They speak only truth, keep promises, aid the needy, and oppose injustice openly, embodying honor and compassion.
"Hmm… So choosing a faith is essentially choosing a faction…" Feng Bu Jue mused, staring at the menu before him. "This world is clearly part of the Four Pillars Deity’s main universe. Now these five random gods have popped up… Which side truly represents the ‘divine’ level?"
Meanwhile, Lie Sen De did not stand idle like an ordinary Npc in most games, waiting passively for players to decide. After ten seconds of waiting, he impatiently urged, "Hurry up! We don’t have time to waste, humans! Do you want your reward or not?"
"I choose Ifer." Feng Bu Jue immediately replied. The moment his words exited his mouth, he shot a glance toward Hong Hu nearby.
The latter caught the signal and responded, "I choose Wisden."
Fei Chai Shu, on the other side, also discerned their plan. He quickly added, "I choose Wokol."
These three followed Feng Bu Jue’s strategy precisely—each selecting a different option.
At this point, no one knew what these faiths entailed. Choosing one might bring rewards, while another could trigger disasters. Diversifying their choices was a rational move to avoid total annihilation.
"As a hero, of course I choose Tyrus, the God of Truth!" Brother Horse declared next. Though he hadn’t caught on to his teammates’ plan, he confidently picked a different option based on personal preference.
This was no coincidence. Feng Bu Jue, Hong Hu, and Fei Chai Shu had already anticipated Tian Ma Xing Kong’s inevitable choice of the Lawful Good Faction, so they avoided that option altogether.
Finally, it was Jibu Shao Ye’s turn.
"Ah… I see…" Jibu looked at his teammates and muttered softly. "Everyone’s choosing different options to test what consequences each faith brings, right?"
As he spoke, he glanced again at the pop-up window on the game menu.
At that moment, the system voice added, as if specially for him: [Do not input self-made answers, such as "Christianity, Buddhism, Atheism, God, Science, Proletarian Warrior, Brother Chun", etc. Similar answers will trigger extreme consequences.]
Sighing, Jibu raised his head to face Lie Sen De. "I choose Edient."
With that, all five had answered. Lie Sen De continued, "Good. If you provide me with enough ‘sins’ to digest, I will grant rewards based on your faiths."
"Ah, so different faiths simply mean different rewards…" Feng Bu Jue thought.
[Side Quest Triggered] The system voice sounded again. A new entry appeared in the players’ task bars: [Describe Seven Sins to Satisfy the "Hungry" Lie Sen De. Current Progress: 0/7].
Lie Sen De wasn’t done yet. He turned to Feng Bu Jue, the first to declare his faith. "Ifer’s follower, I grant you the ‘Authority of One Deception.’"
"Non-physical…?" Feng Bu Jue remained expressionless but pondered, "What does that mean? Do I need permission to lie here? Could it be… that lying is impossible in certain areas of this island?"
As he mused, Lie Sen De shifted his gaze to Hong Hu. "Wisden’s follower, I shall reveal to you ‘A Piece of Information You Need.’"
"Oh?" A glint of hope flashed behind Hong Hu’s glasses as he thought, "This should let me uncover the coordinates of the Faith Temple."
To Fei Chai Shu, Lie Sen De said, "Wokol’s follower, I grant you ‘An Instance of Disguise.’" Then, turning to Tian Ma Xing Kong, he added, "Tyrus, the God of Truth’s follower… you get nothing. Except this…"
At these words, Lie Sen De suddenly pulled a face at Tian Ma Xing Kong with his baboon-like visage and raised his middle finger.
"Huh?" Brother Horse blinked twice, then reacted after two seconds… "Huh?"
"As for you, Edient’s follower…" Lie Sen De lowered his middle finger and addressed Jibu. "I’ll give you this axe in my hand."
Silence…
About five seconds of silence.
"Hey! What’s going on!" Hong Hu broke the silence first. "The rewards are way too uneven!"
"Hmm… Giving a middle finger to Lawful Good and handing equipment to Chaotic Evil…" Feng Bu Jue stroked his chin, musing, "Looks like Jibu got lucky this time…"
"Ha ha ha ha!" Jibu spread his arms, laughing heartily with a face full of triumphant joy. "It’s destiny! You guys rushed to pick the seemingly good options, but the best one was left for me! Ha ha ha!"
"What’s there to be proud of? This isn’t a kill game mode…" Feng Bu Jue replied. "Besides, that axe looks like a tattered-level weapon…"
"Shut up! You’re just jealous!" Jibu shouted. "You neutral evil failure, take my big [bleep]!"
"You’re really getting into character…" Feng Bu Jue wiped a bead of cold sweat from his temple.
"Humans! Don’t waste time. These are the only conditions I can offer", Lie Sen De interjected. "If you want them, decide now…"
"Quick question", Feng Bu Jue interrupted rapidly. "Are there any restrictions on describing sins? Like each person must contribute one, or one person can only describe two…"
"No, no, no!" Lie Sen De repeated impatiently, his eyes growing increasingly frenzied like an addict on the verge of a relapse.
"So… could I describe all seven myself?" Feng Bu Jue asked, glancing sideways at his four teammates.
The teammates naturally had no objections. After all, it was time to let a professional handle it.
"Fine… Just do it quickly…" Lie Sen De’s eyes bulged, his facial muscles twitching. "Hurry! I can’t wait anymore!"
"Alright!" Feng Bu Jue suddenly raised his voice.
Before his words faded, he turned and strode to a rock, leaning against it casually. He began reciting:
"Lucky mountains cradle loyal bones;
"Innocent iron forges treacherous ministers."
Right and wrong have always been ice and charcoal—
Reputation today divides truth from falsehood."
As he spoke, he casually grabbed a flat stone and slammed it onto the rock beside him, producing a sharp "crack!"
"What’s going on…! A scene-setting poem? Is he about to do stand-up comedy?" Jibu exclaimed.
Hong Hu adjusted his glasses with a snort. "Feng Bu Jue, you sure are professional… Should we clap and shout ‘another one’?"
"Another one? Sure." Feng Bu Jue grinned, tapping his nose. "Law-abiding folks worry daily;
Strong-arms revel every night.
Harming others benefits the self;
Fairness starves the upright.
Bridges and roads repaired, the blind suffer;
Killers thrive with fire and sword.
I reached the Western Paradise and asked my Buddha,
‘Buddha said…’" He struck the stone again. "‘I’m out of solutions too!'"
"Spouting lines effortlessly… Impressive…" Fei Chai Shu chuckled.
"Oh! So this guy doesn’t get along with the Lawful Good Faction types?" At this moment, Tian Ma Xing Kong finally reacted, as if emerging from a trance, belatedly responding to the scene minutes prior.
"Your delayed reaction time…" Hong Hu shook his head helplessly. "Forget it… I’m too tired to argue."
Meanwhile, Lie Sen De, the listener, had already sat cross-legged, leaning on his axe, watching Feng Bu Jue excitedly, eagerly awaiting his next words.
"Now, in this dynasty, there was a reckless person…" Feng Bu Jue began his narrative.
Feng Bu Jue deduced from the task bar details and earlier dialogue that this task didn’t require him to recount his own sins—describing others’ misdeeds sufficed. Thus, he felt confident. Fabricating stories in third person was far easier than implicating himself. After all, this was his specialty. Seven sins? He could handle ten…
