Chapter 54: The Golem
Chapter 54: The Golem
Due to Su Nan's unexpected intervention, the war concluded in a way no one had anticipated.
In this battle, the enemy suffered over 1,300 casualties, with another 600 taken as prisoners.
Many more had fled, their whereabouts unknown.
The Blackrock City forces, in contrast, lost fewer than 200 soldiers.
However, they had lost over twenty Blackrock Leopards.
When the casualties were tallied, Brad's cheeks twitched with pain.
But most of the others were elated.
After all, defeating the rebels with such minimal losses was a significant achievement.
The victory brought a festive atmosphere to the entire Blackrock City.
That evening, Kyi hosted a celebratory banquet in the inner castle's grand hall.
Knights gathered, drinking and toasting to their success.
Even the injured knights, bandaged and bruised, joined in the revelry.
After a round of toasts with the commanders in the front hall, Kyi made his way to the back chamber where Su Nan was resting, only to find him petting a cat.
"When did you get a cat?"
Kyi glanced at the white cat lying on Su Nan's lap, surprised.
"This is Amy, my friend," Su Nan smiled, then introduced Kyi to Amy, "This is my brother, Kyi."
Seeing Su Nan introduce himself to a cat with such seriousness, Kyi found it amusing, but his eyes widened in shock the next moment.
"Meow, hello."
The cat actually raised its paw and greeted him!
A talking cat?
Kyi's mouth dropped open.
Even though he had seen many extraordinary things from Su Nan, this still felt like a blow to his worldview.
The world was even more bizarre than he had imagined.
"Hello."
Kyi greeted Amy with a peculiar expression.
He then sat down opposite Su Nan, took a sip of wine, and composed his thoughts before speaking.
"I think now is the perfect time to reclaim Flashhold."
Su Nan, who had anticipated Kyi's words, nodded with a smile.
"When do you plan to march?"
"In three days," Kyi said solemnly, "We can't give Owen the time to reorganize his fleeing troops, or it will be even harder to take Flashhold!"
"Even without those fleeing soldiers, it won't be easy to capture Flashhold now that the tables have turned."
"Indeed," Kyi glanced at Su Nan, a meaningful smile on his face, "But you're here, aren't you?"
Su Nan smiled and nodded, understanding Kyi's implication.
Indeed, he had over ten methods to breach Flashhold's gates.
Once the siege turned into a street battle, Blackrock City would have a significant advantage.
With the elite cavalry nearly wiped out and the army severely weakened, if Owen lost the high walls and strong defenses of Flashhold, he would have no means to resist Blackrock City.
"How are the potion sales going?"
Su Nan suddenly remembered the batch of potions he had left before going to Stonechime City, entrusting Kyi to sell them through the Firefox Guild.
Kyi's face lit up with a pleased smile at the mention of it.
"The response has been excellent. The potions were very popular and sold out in less than three days."
"Mu Zhuo also brought news that many lords from the Thornflower Principality are interested in ordering more. I've already received over 500 pre-orders."
"Mu Zhuo suggests we wait for your decision. If you're willing to take the orders, he can collect a deposit from those lords in advance."
Chapter 55: The Golem
"Of course we should take the orders," Su Nan said without hesitation.
Once they reclaim Flashhold, he plans to build a base, establish his own magical plant garden, and set up facilities for crafting magical items, potion-making, large-scale laboratories, and golem factories. The initial cost will be at least twenty to thirty thousand gold coins! Such a hefty expense can't be covered entirely by the resources from his territory. He needs to find ways to earn additional income.
With the potion sales business, the financial pressure has been significantly alleviated.
"Firefoxtail Guild also sent over a lot of items. I've had them delivered to your storage room. You should check them out when you have time."
"I will."
Su Nan stood up and left the meeting hall. Back in the courtyard, Amy jumped out of his arms, leaped into the air, and disappeared to play with Hidden Dragon.
Su Nan made his way to the storage room and quickly found several boxes stacked in the corner. Two of the boxes were filled with books. The books were clearly well-maintained, but both the covers and the pages exuded a sense of age and history.
Su Nan picked up each book and flipped through them. As expected, over ninety percent of the books were knowledge-based, and many of them overlapped with what he already had. There were only four spell model books:
- A Cantrip: Message
- A Second-Level Spell: Melf's Acid Arrow
- Another Second-Level Spell: Shatter
- A First-Level Spell: Silent Image
- A First-Level Spell: Summon Monster I
Message and Melf's Acid Arrow were both practical offensive spells. Shatter was also a useful second-level spell for dealing with tough enemies. The remaining two books gave Su Nan a pleasant surprise. Both were first-level spell model books: Silent Image and Summon Monster I.
Silent Image is a spell that every wizard should learn. It creates a single illusory object or creature within a certain range, which can move freely to confuse opponents. Mastering this spell greatly enhances combat flexibility. Summon Monster I is more unpredictable, but if the right creature is summoned, it can be quite useful in certain situations. The unpredictability can be mitigated with preparation and multiple attempts.
In short, both spells are highly practical.
"Counting these two, I now have nine first-level spells that I haven't mastered yet," Su Nan mused. "It will take at least a year to learn them all."
Despite the time it will take, he is eager to learn as many spells as possible. For a wizard, the more spells they know, the better they can handle various unexpected situations.
Apart from the spell books, he also found a few knowledge-based books that piqued his interest. One of them was titled Golems and Constructs.
Golems are a branch of constructs, and they are one of the most thoroughly researched and developed areas in wizardry. Initially, golems were created as simple, intelligent servants and assistants for wizards. Later, wizards began to add rune secrets to golems, granting them specific abilities and skills, making them more "intelligent" and "powerful." This significantly enhanced their combat capabilities, leading to their widespread use in battles and the formation of famous golem legions.
As more and more wizards invested in the research and development of golems, the variety and power of golems increased dramatically.
