...
Indeed, this refugee camp was significantly larger than the previous one, which initially had only about three hundred people. Now, at a glance, there were at least five hundred refugees and more.
However, a group of people with an all-around attribute of just 1 was of little use, no matter how numerous they were. In Lu HaiKong and his men's eyes, this group of refugees was merely a flock of lambs ready for slaughter, accompanied by a rich feast.
Lu HaiKong and his subordinates were no longer the cautious group from half a month ago who had to be careful even when dealing with a refugee camp of fifty people. Backed by their formidable strength, Lu HaiKong directly initiated a battle with a ratio of eleven against five hundred.
Eleven against five hundred was an overwhelming situation, both numerically and in terms of combat.
The only difference was that in the first scenario, 'eleven' was supposed to be the overwhelmed party, but in the actual fight, the side with 'five hundred' was the one being crushed.
With strength and attributes far superior to the refugees, Lu HaiKong and his men had ample mobility and skill to kite the five hundred refugees, keeping them at a distance. Although the refugees charged with ferocious and joyous abandon, they couldn't get close to Lu HaiKong's group, who kept them at bay, striking with long-range archery.
While the 5th-level Basic Archery Technique was not exceptionally powerful and rarely achieved a hundred percent hit rate, it was unnecessary against such a large group of refugees. The most straightforward approach was to draw the bow and fire into the crowd; even if the arrow went astray, it might still hit a hapless grandmother.
Once hit by an arrow, death was almost certain. Regardless of where the arrow struck, as long as one slowed down or fell, they would be mercilessly trampled by their unintelligent companions, leading to an inevitable demise.
Within a few minutes, without even engaging in close combat, Lu HaiKong's group had eliminated one or two hundred refugees. However, their supply of arrows was nearly depleted, and the refugee formation had become sparse, making it less easy to hit targets.
At this point, Lu HaiKong ordered his archers to put away their bows and draw their weapons, launching an offensive against the remaining two to three hundred refugees.
The group of eleven advanced like eleven tigers pouncing on a flock of sheep, unstoppable and cutting through the refugee ranks like a hot knife through butter. Just as it seemed that Lu HaiKong's group would pierce through the refugees, he suddenly felt that the refugees surrounding him seemed different.
"Finally, they've come in! It was a long wait! Now that you're here, don't even think about leaving. I will make you pay for the lives of my two hundred men today!"
A voice filled with rage echoed, and Lu HaiKong turned to see a young man in his early twenties, dressed in a scholarly robe, resembling Zhang Wen in appearance.
As Lu HaiKong looked on, the attributes of the refugees suddenly surged, doubling. All the refugees had a status boost in morale, clearly the work of the young scholar.
Lu HaiKong's eyes lit up at this sight. The young man's skills were impressive, far more reliable than Zhang Wen's disappointing failure of a son. If possible, Lu HaiKong wanted to capture this man alive; he would be an invaluable asset in future battles.
"Wang Chao, Ma Han, get that scholar! The rest of you, follow me and wipe out these refugees!" Lu Hai Kong pointed at the scholar across the way and issued the command, paying no heed to the other refugees around him.
Even with their attributes doubled, a group of refugees with a mere attribute score of 1 was still insignificant.
"Yes, sir!"
Wang Chao and Ma Han charged straight towards the scholar. Initially, the scholar didn't seem too concerned, thinking that Lu Hai Kong's group was relying solely on their bows and arrows to bully them. In a real fight, with eleven against three hundred, he didn't believe Lu Hai Kong's group could break through his encirclement, let alone the refugees, who had become twice as powerful under his influence.
However, as Wang Chao and Ma Han began their assault, the scholar panicked. It was clear that their strength far exceeded his expectations, and even with the refugees' enhanced abilities, they were like scarecrows before Wang Chao and Ma Han. A single sweep of their weapons could take down several refugees.
What was even more astonishing was Ma Han's assault style. After Wang Chao and Ma Han had advanced, Lu Hai Kong had provided them with new weapons. Wang Chao's long spear remained largely unchanged, except for the wood being replaced with fine iron. But Ma Han's weapon was a different story; he had swapped his original 1.2-meter short blade for a massive two-meter-long greatsword.
With this new sword, Ma Han's fighting style underwent a significant transformation. Initially, he was only known for his speed, but now, with the greatsword in hand, he became like a raging storm. Within a two-meter radius, there were hardly any survivors, and the corpses were left in pieces.
With Wang Chao and Ma Han's overwhelming strength, the scholar lost all confidence in his own men. Initially, he had five or six refugee leaders as his personal guards, his last line of defense, but with Wang Chao and Ma Han's arrival, these brave leaders charged forward only to meet their demise within seconds. Their bodies were either dismembered or had their throats pierced.
In a matter of minutes, Wang Chao and Ma Han had launched their attack, reached the scholar, and subdued him. How could anyone be so powerful as to shatter the scholar's small world in such a short time?
Several minutes later, Lu Hai Kong, leading the 'Avengers, Robbing the Rich to Aid the Poor,' had slaughtered all three hundred refugees. Initially, Lu Hai Kong hadn't planned to participate to gain experience, but since his Basic Sword Skill had just reached level 9, he reluctantly joined the fight.
After the battle, Lu Hai Kong's Basic Sword Skill advanced to level 10 as he had hoped, and several system messages followed one after the other.
"Congratulations on improving your Basic Sword Skill to level 10. Your understanding of swordplay has deepened, and your agility has slightly increased."
"Congratulations on winning a small-scale battle. Your leadership has improved in a ten-to-five-hundred battle, currently at 6 points."
"Congratulations on winning the battle. You and your attributes have gained substantial personal experience. The leaders of your subordinates, Wang Ti, Wang Tian... have also leveled up, currently at level 4."
